ChoiceScriptDev Wikia

I guess we don’t require a demo then ^^’

Well, as long as we know it’s a work in progress; we did agree with that requirement, but since we didn’t make the requirements visible or known to the audience, I think we should let it be for now; although we should add a requirement that at least specifies that games should only be posted without a demo link if the a good part of the game is already done (which means a demo-link for that game’ll be up soon).

@CJW I’ll get you next time. :stuck_out_tongue:

But, seriously now, while I don’t consider myself a ChoiceScript ambassador as such, I do feel that all hoping-to-make-a-buck-from-this authors have a vested interest in CoG’s / ChoiceScript’s success. The more Choice games out there, and the larger the playerbase for these things, the better our own chances of each having a successful game (or two). Apart from those doing it just for the sheer fun of it, I’m assuming many of us would prefer a successful bang to a mediocre fizzle, otherwise what’s the point of all this effort?

This is why I feel it’s important for the community to get behind initiatives like the Wiki, and indeed, useful ideas like the WIP Games Hub.

Here is the link to an article I wrote for the Wiki on marketing your Choice Game:

@JimD A fascinating read! Very insightful, thanks for sharing that man :slight_smile:

So i know there was a thread on this somewhere, did a search on wikia but no go. Need to build a timer for one segment of the game. Any help would be great. Thanks

@lordirishdas - It’s not something that would be doable with choicescript, raw javascript would be necessary.

Hmm I figured YOU would say that lol. Well… fiddle sticks. Guess I will need to rethink how I will approach this section. Its not a total wash out just a glitch in what I was aiming for. Thanks as always @CJW

@lordirishdas - You could “time” through page loads, you have to do something within so many choices or clicks of next, but yeah, if you’re looking for a constant countdown, it’s a no-go I’m afraid :confused: Sorry!

@CJW I was going for a test, a pic is shown only so long then it be replace by another. Then you would have to recall the pattern from the last pic. This is in the development of the MC, not a big deal as I have a few ideas as to how to approach this. But a simple timer would have been nice. But such is the way of us over reaching writers lol.

Hmm, well like I say, you could do it in Javascript, if you’re willing to look into that kind of thing?

A quick update

The wiki’s now customised for Haloween (by customized, read colored) ! :slight_smile:

@JimD really interesting article, thanks!

Update:

We’ve not updated this in a while. I’m ‘hoping’ that’s because it’s doing its job well - as it is, but if anyone has any suggestions for things we could add or expand on, please don’t hesitate to say so!

Just wanted to get that out there.

A lot of the special commands articles don’t actually exist, so maybe you could work on creating those articles.

Good point.
There is actually a good reason for this, most of the ‘special’ commands are only of use when a game is published as an app (to Chrome, iStore, Google Play etc) *subscribe and *check_purchase being prime examples of this.

There is next to no benefit in us writing articles about them as you’ll be very unlikely to ever need those commands.

*restart
*restore_game
*script

They are the only ones I think it is perhaps worth writing articles about.

I’ll certainly tackle at least those three, if not the rest of them.
Thanks for the feedback! It’s much appreciated!

Ah. That makes sense.

Your welcome for the feedback. Thanks for the wikia. I used it to learn how to do choicescript.

There isn’t anything on actually writing the story itself.

I don’t know if you’re going to include anything of this sort, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Cogs aren’t -exactly- games as we think of them, but neither are they simply stories.
It might be worth it to do an article on creating meaningful choices or using stats to make unique pages. You know, tips and tricks to make the whole process easier or to produce a better, more interactive product.

100th comment :smiley: !!!
