I’ve played Choice Of The Broadsides multiple times, and I was wondering if there was a way to escape getting assigned to The Defender, or at least escaping mutiny.

Mutiny? Either be a people person or have your Lt. be a people person.

You can.
You have to clean the ship
Then keep on improving your crew
When they are whispering flog them all
When the sailor sleeps first cut him off run if he does it again give him lashes 10 times
If carters dies investigate the murder then hang the ones who most likely killed him
When I did all thise things I didn’t get a mutiny.
