I don’t view it as an appreciable difference. 40 followers, 200 followers, neither are big. At least in the former we can be more heading in the direction of hardened professional rebels more easily, I feel. In that sort of game all the focus goes to hitting the Thaumatarchy where it hurts slightly more for the tax collection rather than having to pester helots for food donations, setting up smuggling routes and other minutiae that has more to do with feeding and clothing the huge daycare operation going on.
Ironically enough the way I see it is that the larger group breaks down more into the just trying to get the logistics to work for so many people to survive in the barren winter forest rather than the rebellion, which is I guess the opposite of your stance. Either way’s fine, really.
Well for every army they need training, food and weapons. While a band of two hundred takes longer to train you have more troops And for every alastor you bring down you’ve gained a new armor and weapons set.
@Divine_Heretic, and there will definitely be an achievement for the “go big or go home” reader who triggers and then survives the maximum troop deployment – and an extra-special one if (with just the right stat-support combo) you can actually manage to beat the biggest army an angry Archon is going to send after you.
That said, it’s a pretty reckless rebellion strategy. Even a guerrilla genius like Ahmad Shah Massoud didn’t start by trying to incite a massive Russian operation in the Panjsher. He worked up to it over many years.
@Golgot You are definitely right about 300 not being a lot. However, I would rather they be with me in the forest than providing the hegemony with labor and blood that could be used against me.
In any real battle this would realistically put me at a disadvantage for a number of reasons, some of which have already been mentioned. However, against the laughable alastor militia numbers are good because they let you hit more at a time.
@Havenstone it depends how easy it will be to AVOID AT ALL COST the force they send, im really quite interested in seeing how that all plays out really. We will see if my gamble pays off. If I am forced into open battle against anything but alastors or small units of phalanx before I am ready my plan has failed anyway…
Then there is the traitor to consider… hard to avoid an enemy with a spy in your midst. Hmmm. We shall see.
The beginning is rough but if we can survive the first year of rebellion with little casualties then I think I may have a shot. While the countryside lays burning, helots taking up arms against their masters, trade convoys being hijacked (want to raid a military convoy with my most elite troopers trained by Zvads friend. But that hasn’t happened yet) a large army will be sent after my motley crew simply because the hegemony will want everyone to see that they can crush any and all who oppose them and end any thoughts of rebellion. I least hope they send big numbers. Whole plan revolves around watching them stretch their supplies too much as they look for us in the forest.then it would turn into what happened with the Romans when they sent an army through the forest. this is what I hope will happen anyway. My whole plan might be FUBAR depending on how (General) Havenstone makes the next parts of the game.
The Theurges have some serious tactical advantages which the Romans lacked… but yes, any army sent deep into a forested wilderness to chase guerrillas is going to be vulnerable. If you can figure out a way to neutralize the Theurges, you’ve got a shot.
They aren’t faster than an arrow they can’t see right? As in do they have a fast enough reaction time to use their blood magic to stop the arrow if all they heard was a noise?
Could just poison them? Mara is scared she is not a fighter or a wood girl, alone in forest like a little red hood :(( it is I’m not used to play like an open warrior, I’m feeling helpless
@Razgriz, whatever Chirex did to make her coat impermeable to hurled rocks and clubs will also work on arrows. But there are limits to it, as hinted early in Ch 2 if you’ve got the INT for it: “You’ve read that invulnerability magic consumes a lot of blood, and you doubt that Theurges can afford to keep themselves protected on long reconnaissance flights.”
@Mara, you don’t need to try to stand and fight. Fear not.
Damn…Well there goes taking them out quietly… but wait would the spell shield weaken if it were pummeled by a lot of projectiles at once? If not then I suppose we’d have to wait until they went back for their return flight then try to bring them down.
The more they mobilize the better. Cost them more to feed and equip an army in the field than in garrison. BUT I really dont want to fight them yet… just need to avoid them long enough to gain some friends in high places and coordinate with them.
@Razgriz The only major weakness I can identify in regards to their thurges is that they can only carry so much refined blood on them at once, and if you play through as a thurge you quickly notice that any combat spells take up a good amount of blood quite quickly. Stones and arrows will kill them just as easily as any other men… perhaps easier, if they like to fly since if they have armor on flight becomes a lot more blood consuming (maybe impossible? magic and metal dont seem to go together well) and so likely wont be used.
On a side note I am curious to know others thoughts on whether they would like to see trying to bring down the wards as part of their strategy in the rebellion. I think I am probably one of the few who would like to see them stay up… for now… I wouldnt be too suprised to see a few others agree but I expect to be in the minority. Just curious like I said.
Hmm I wonder if my plan of eliminating these scouting thurges will work then.I believe that if I can take out their eyes and ears eliminating the army would be much easier. If I had won such a battle I would try to recruit any who survived, any who survive and refuse would be either executed or left with nothing. Any and all captured thurges would have to be put down.
Lol nothing is set in stone yet and I’m already preparing battle plans and scenarios xD calm down self Havenstone is still working.
Not this game. Your charisma and your chances of survival are both too low to attract Phalangite troops. (Though there may be as Razgriz says the possibility of recruiting survivors if you beat them).
