Blood and Runes (WIP) -- Updated January 10th

Would you guys like the option to choose between a noble cover story and a merchant cover story? It’s something I’ve been toying with for a while. These fake backgrounds will offer more flavor text, and will even affect the way people treat you at court (at least in certain circumstances) once you arrive there. It’ll also mean more work for me and make coding more difficult. Updates will probably take longer.

So. What cover story do you guys want?

  • A Noble Cover Story
  • A Merchant Cover Story
  • A Choice Between a Merchant and Noble Cover Story

Hm, that depand no? I mean, a Noble I could see that work like say for a mage. But merchant? We are talking background right? Are those the only 2 choices we get?

Not the MC’s backround, only their coverstory

If im not mistaken, we’ll be going to a ball, so having any other sort of cover story would not suit the player well, although, something from being from a higher lineage, or something that tells people you have money can help the player complete their mission much easier

Merchant. This is a kingdom. People can track even minor noble bloodlines for like 50 generations, and there’s no way the noble cover holds. But a merchant who made their fortune in a mysterious way? That just adds mystique as the nobles all come upwith ever more ridiculous stories.

As @Sneeky said, this is for your cover story when you go to court, not your actual backstory.

In this situation, the MC would be a bastard of noble blood, not a legitimate child of a house, no matter how small. As you said, Reian’s nobles take meticulous care to keep track of their bloodlines.

Oh well if it’s a cover story, then it doesn’t matter…since it disappears once the mission end right? How about a Pirate ARR Walk that Plank! Too much? do they even exist?

Hey, if it’s good enough for Sir Terry Pratchett…

Hi, just played the demo loved it. Any chance of an update in July or are you still working on the next chapter?

She’d be the Goddess of Writing if she somehow manages to pump out another update this month.

So there’s no white Ro’s?

I’m glad you enjoyed the demo! Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get the next update out this month. I’m working on chapter 3, though!

Idar is white. He’s described as having olive skin, a description that I understand many people interpret differently, which might have been confusing. Because of its geographical location, Reian is a fairly diverse kingdom; you’ll see a wide variety of people in the game, and that reflects in the ROs as well.

Progress Update 7-26-22
Hey everyone! I know it’s been a while. I’m just popping in to say that I’ve gone through the demo and fixed the bugs and typos that were pointed out to me. Everything should run smoothely, now. Thank you to everyone who helped me polish it up

I’ve started working on chapter 3 and while progress has been slower than I would have liked, I have a bit more free time coming up for the rest of the week and hope to make a dent in it! As of now, the plan is to just keep on writing and hopefully make good progress.

Oh, and I’m also going to let the player choose the MC’s third power in chapter 3. Currently I’m considering enhanced speed and shapeshifiting. I have space for one more alternative ability, so if anyone has suggestions, feel free to give them!

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t like “super speed” as a powerset, because it’s either done poorly or “win every fight, forever, against anyone that doesn’t have super speed”. Unless you mean you just run really fast and not overall speed.

So I’m thinking of it as enhanced speed where you’re just naturally quicker than most people. You’re not, like, the Flash, but you’re still faster than the average person when you choose to be.

You’re right to point out that this could easily become overpowered, though. I want these abilities to be fairly balanced, so I’ll have to keep that in mind.

You can always put limitations. Like in CCH 2, what’s-his-name (Quickie) can use his superspeed for 3 seconds (which evolved into 12 by the end of it) before he’s “spent”.
Or maybe each time you use superspeed, all processes in your body speed up too: you get hungry, you dehydrate, you tire etc. etc. faster. To the point of passing out or just dying. All that’s you need to do is to find the golden ratio of time of using superspeed divided by the cost of it on the body.
Or like games. Dragon age origins: the spell of haste constantly drains your mana while it’s active. And dungeon and dragons (5th edition) after the spell of haste ends, it stunns the one who was under it’s effect for 1 round (which is bad if you’re still in combat. While stunned you: skip your turn and all hits against you are critical, so you can go from 100 to 0 real quick)

That sounds like it might be difficult to code, but I could see it working. I’ll definitely keep it in mind. Drawbacks to runes — which I plan to expand upon — already exist in the world, so it wouldn’t be going against any establish rules I have set in my notes. Thank you for the input!

I actually love the book and I can’t wait for the next update to come out! Just had a question about what type of revolution is going to go on in the kingdom? Would it be like the french revolution where it’s all about killing all the nobles, or do they just want to overthrow the monarchy? either way, VIVA LE REVOLUTION!!!
