Bethroned WIP

I already don’t like this emperor/empress… even though I haven’t met them. It’s still the enemy #changemymind :unamused:

Although MC’s family sucks too. Mhm, tough situation. Will we have to take sides or is there some third path?

@jvcruz havent gotten deep yet into the demo but i noticed a issue with the saves. You need to give your game its own special save string cause right now your sharing saves with other games lol

The premise has me interested and when get a chance will share my thoughts on the demo.

Interesting premise, and edging on courtly intrigues and underlying plots. I appreciate the sense of MC’s helplessness that has been depicted in the story, as well as their shaping of their own self over the years, as such the transitions have been immersive and not discrepant.

I, however, didn’t feel much emotional attachment towards Sadie since her part in the story has been limited till now and consequently her death didn’t instill that sense of emotional distress that I would feel from the death of a plot relevant and endearing NPC. It was well written though. ( Do note, I went the friendship path with her).

I also liked the promise of future family angst as well as with the second lieutenant.

Overall, a good read with much promise, and immersive writing indulging in misery and gut-wrenching reality of war and neglect. Can’t wait to see how this develops. Have a good one :beers: Ave.

Seems interesting so far. The emperor is a ro right? Don’t think I saw them in the list.

They are not.

Congratulations on your release!

The writing is decent, I’ll be following this development.

Now, a few questions on future turn of events:

Why did you word it such as the whole peace is dependent on MC asking for Empress hand personally?

Why do you expect a long bloody war to end with a marriage? So many people slaughtered on both sides and now they will have to live under one sovereign?

Why did empress agree to marry a spare, when her rank clearly demands a crown-prince at the very least?

From your tumblr it appears the empress wishes for lavender marriage with MC (if MC is a dude, and Sadie is a dude). Why can’t she just make a law the makes gay marriage legal and live with her love in peace?

It is the term Emperor/Empress probably betting on MC to not accept, reverse psychology because exactly what you said this conflict probably won’t end just like that.

Beside if MC accepted then that remove MC the from the equation, if MC didn’t accept war keep ongoing either way win win for the Empire and it double L for MC and Kingdom, MC after all will be held hostage.

This remind me of manhwa Barbarian was admitted in to academy.

Not getting married ofc but the premise is the same MC is held hostage by opposition.

WHOOPS I completely forgot to put in my game’s identifier in the code. Thank you so much for catching this and letting me know! :smiling_face_with_tear: It’s been fixed!

Unfortunately for the MC, they have very little say in things. I want to make it clear in the story that the MC hasn’t had much agency in their life, even with the king being detached from the war. They will also learn that there’s a lot more going on than they’ve been lead to believe, as far as negotiations go.

As for stats, this is a bit tricky…
The percentages don’t necessarily represent how the MC compares to other warriors, but more how the MC compares to their own potential. Does that make sense?

It will be a while still before we’ll get to choices that are impacted by stat levels; I want players to gradually build those stats before it comes to that.

Thank you for your feedback!

Challenge accepted :sunglasses:

Good question! I don’t want to give too much away, because the major story conflict hasn’t been introduced yet. But as far as “sides” go, there will be opportunities to sabotage the empire, sabotage your homeland, sabotage both, or bring them together. And even each of those options will have more nuance and variety.

You are correct, they are not on the list. The emperor/empress is not a RO. There is a good reason for it that will be revealed at the end of Chapter 1.

Not at all! While relationship building is a key part of the game, those relationships do not have to be romantic in nature. They can be platonic or even rivalries.

It’s so interesting to see some stronger reactions to Sadie from some people; it actually surprised me that some people got attached because I intentionally kind of left them blank. I’ve crafted Sadie as more of a plot/character-building device for the MC, though there will be more vignettes of them in future chapters. I almost don’t want players to get too attached to them, because they are not meant to be a major character. Honestly, your response to Sadie is more of what I expect from readers. I’m hoping to elicit more emotional responses from the main characters you eventually get to know, and I definitely don’t want Sadie to detract from that.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I’m excited to get the next chapter out; I wasn’t expecting as much of a response as I’ve gotten over on tumblr so I almost wish I waited to publish until I finished Ch 1. This has definitely motivated me to wrap that up though. Cheers! :beers:

Thank you so much for your feedback and questions!

These are all really great questions and each one of them has answers that will be gradually unravelled through the narrative. I may have jumped the gun by publishing the prologue without at least chapter 1; perhaps I can embellish the prologue to make it clear that these circumstances are intended to be mysterious?

I would definitely appreciate feedback on whether this might be necessary and what it might look like.

Thanks again!

… Good.

Will MC have to… ugh, fulfill the marital duty and make the Empire get a heir?

Definitely not! If that were the case, I would have major trigger warnings for sure haha. But no, from this moment forward, MC will be able to reclaim their agency and I don’t intend to force anything sexual on the MC – or any other character, for that matter.

That’s not to say it isn’t expected of them; it’s the purpose of the union, after all. But, believe it or not, the emperor/empress is in a similar boat as the MC in this situation and, for reasons that will be made clear at the end of chapter 1, even if the MC wanted to make an heir with the emperor/empress, their spouse would reject them.

My only goal so far is end the King and sister, then that Emperor/Empress.

That’s a relief. My MC would never agree to have a child in a forced marriage with the enemy…

Same here :ok_hand: :smiling_imp:

About sabotaging any side I would like to see more of the story before deciding, naturally I am not really holding grudge if people doesn’t pose existential threat, sometimes we deal bad cards in life and that’s that.
