Apartment 502 discussion

Really love Andi and Atlast route. Didn’t really like Rainn because of the way he treated the Mc and not communicating properly that they’ve broken up. Not really planning to romance him cause my Mc decided to move on cause she knows her worth! F him!

Just going to link the tumblr Here so that everyone can see updates and asks

Peeked in to see what all the fuss was about…okay mc feels a bit like a naive lovestruck teenager but then some contrivances are necessary to get a plot like this moving.

Oh, and the cute supermodel/influencer roommate will definitely help my mc get over Rainn very quickly as it shows the poor mc can do better. I love that it starts out as a purely physical/sexual relationship at first until these guys catch feelings. Anyway Levi is definitely cute, fun and fashionable and I’m keeping him. :heart_eyes_cat:

Kinda sad the coolest non-standard job…TV anchorman/presenter is not currently available, hope it gets added back in as the others all seem kind of boring or really precarious as in just another starving artist in the Big, rotten Apple.

Also this game gives you the option to move from another country and still has the teacher jobs available but even if mc was a totally rockin’ teacher back in their country of origin teaching in America, like with any protected and heavily regulated profession, requires retraining to get a certification, license or permit for the new country. Even the USA is not that de-regulated…yet.

I might be wrong on this but I think the author couldn’t figure out how to do that route right so it’s being put off until they’re able to figure how it should go but it’s not getting removed.

Yeah, it’s very noticable that Mc comes off as very naive or very “country bumpkin” regardles of background. Which takes me out of it sometimes since it’s kinda contradicting my choices to be more serious/cynical with trying to move on.

I still can’t get over that Rainn has a fucking Tesla.

I think that might be a company car though but still… A Tesla???

They’re pretty mediocre as far as cars go. Like Apple most of their value is in the design and hype.
If we must go environmental in New York and mc ever gets to a stable enough point to buy a car again (I hope the DMV thing at the beginning is foreshadowing and not for nothing) my mc would rather go for something like the new Toyota Prius prime, much cheaper looks sleek too and the build quality is higher than most Tesla’s.
But considering my headcanon my mc is somewhere from a town in middle of nowhere South Africa, which makes the country bumkin thing feel like less of a contrivance and conveniently has English as a native language. Probably somewhere close to a good Safari, camping/glamping destination, which is how a country bumpkin like him could meet people like Andi and Rainn in the first place when they come there as tourists. So his car back home was probably some old, beat-up four wheel drive model, but New York, plus the tv presenter job calls for something sleeker, if indeed that job gets added back in, and the mc can have enough success that a car is even on the table again.

Comes with the territory and one thing my headcanon mc would have ample experience with as he also dealt with all kinds of tourists back home while having to remain courteous and professional, even if they were super obnoxious. So TV presenter in New York would be a higher status version with a lot more eyes on him of the same thing. That said maybe we also get to cover Levi, maybe as part of New York fashion week or something some time too. My mc would actually find it far more challenging to remain professional with Levi than Rainn…particularly if such an interview comes well into the romance.

Although I find the profession of anchor very interesting, if choosing that career would cause me to frequently encounter Rainn, such as interviewing them as one of the promising young lawyers, I think I would have to suppress my emotions a lot.
According to the author’s answer here, the news anchor gets the most Rainn page time.

Kinda makes working at The Vault the best choices if you wanna avoid R, since there shouldn’t be any scenario where they willingly go there or even know about it, other than through Andi.
@Maldron Unless you end up teaching one of their friends kids.

What route are you guys playing that made Rainn go after you? So far in mine Rainn didn’t try to reunite with me and my mc is still crying over them like a lovestruck teen

Imagine having a lawyer route and fighting Rainn in certain cases :exploding_head:. That’s gonna be a big middle finger for him.

I don’t think they would even broke up with you if you were a lawyer. It’s one of the reasons why news anchor mc is so hard to write for the author because it’s also a prestigious job.

If the idea is that the Mc feels insecure or straight up lesser than R because they’re a lawyer and all the prestige that comes with it, than they should change or remove some choices like the choice to also be a graduate from a top uni. Cause otherwise, at least for me it doesn’t make much sense for us to think so highly of them other than trough headcannon.

At the top and evening news level most certainly. However you don’t start out as a Walter Cronkite or Anderson Cooper, particularly not as a foreign immigrant. Early morning and daytime shows are very much the bottom of the totem pole and depending on the culture in the media organisation mc works for mc could also be expected to have to do field reporting and research for more important shows when they are not on camera themselves in their own show/programme at the bottom level. It is also less steady and much more precarious than lawyer as media organisations have regular shakeups of their programming and anchor line-ups.

Again, once the mc has gained some notoriety, following(ers) and a couple promotions then a good amount of status will come with it however it is not as immediately status-conferring as lawyer or doctor, although for most of us in real life who are not part of the Ivy league and pedigree tribe it is also mostly a hard slog and uphill battle.

Still I hope the author keeps the anchor job it is really unique to see it in a game and remember near the bottom you’re basically just another journalist just one they consider appealing enough to give a chance in front of the camera but behind the scenes they still have to do a lot of the less glamorous journalist work too, particularly today when even media operates with tighter and tighter budgets everywhere but at the very top, which is a problem with our late stage capitalism society in general, but I digress.

Potentially even more so if the mc is an immigrant. I mean would the US Ivy crowd really care if my mc graduated with good marks from say Stellenbosch university’s journalism studies back home? I mean it may have been good enough to get him in on the bottom anchor rung in some NY media organisation but would it really do much more?

From his work scene Levi seems to be too professional for that, I just think my mc nor Levi may be able to help some involuntary body reactions. Otherwise they are both professionals who’d take their jobs seriously, it’s just some things are hard to disguise.

Being insecure and graduating from a top uni aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive though.

Even if it would, impostor syndrome is real.

That’s right, imagine this scene:
MC: trying to appear professional throughout the interview
L: smiling and winking at the MC the whole time
Behind the scenes: They don’t know each other, do they? It seems like they’ve known each other for a long time, doesn’t it?

Okay, I was wondering if that was the book in park person. I didn’t remember getting a name, but I wasn’t really paying much mind to that encounter, either.

They never gave their name but it was hinted though

Sorry for the separate post but I think this needs a separate reply as there can be and are in fact absolutely huge differences in status between different lawyers. While any real life examples I could give are of my own country and of limited use to the situation in the USA I will say one reason why I loved Better Call Saul and don’t watch most other lawyer shows is because while it is no doubt still widely inaccurate better call Saul at least tried to show something of the unglamorous status and trials and tribulations of what it is to start out at the very bottom of the lawyering totem pole. So I believe Rainn, mr. prestigious Harvard would still have broken up even if mc had the option to be a lawyer more like Jimmy McGill, graduated from some community college in bumfuck nowhere at the start.

Which means had the author wanted to write it Rainn and the mc could both have very much been lawyers and jurists and still have a huge difference in education, background, status and societal expectations between them.
