Rainn made my blood boil. They have the guts to lie to the mc about not cheating. Turns out you can never trust the words of a lawyer. I hope the mc can have their sweet revenge.

I don’t think they cheated though, it could just be a misunderstanding since it ended on a cliffhanger and I doubt the author would still make them a RO if that was the case.

It’s possible, but if the story is to be believed. They most likely are dating after the break up.
So in a way Rainn already has eyes to a specific person before they broke up, but did not act on it until they broke off with the mc. Which is not really classified as cheating since they started dating only after breaking up with the mc. But even this is a suspect since…

They lied about the reason for breaking up with the mc since their reason for breaking up was to have more time to focus on their career only for them to actually date someone else right away after breaking up which means their reason for having no time for relationships is a lie. So what exactly is their reason besides their career. The only one I could think of is they found someone else. Which made me wonder about your point. Why are they an RO?

We don’t know if they lied about their reason for breaking up. The only point of view we have is that of the MC, who is probably not a reliable narrator given the emotional state they’re in.

True since I only based this analysis on the story which is on the POV of mc. But…if the POV of mc is true, then current Rainn is indeed dating someone else at the moment which contradicts with their reason for breaking up in the first place. And that is what I really want to know, what is the real reason? It even tempts me actually try Rainn route just to know the real reason.

The problem is, we don’t really know who that was that Rainn was saying goodbye to. It sounded like a very affectionate hug, but that could as easily be a family member as a romantic interest. (At least that’s the way it read to me, but I’ll admit, I read late at night.) MC, and therefore the reader, doesn’t know enough at this point to really say, only to jump to the conclusion that they’ve been replaced. And even if they have, it’s possible that it’s someone Rainn works with, which could be a whole other level of horrible, because that possibly means MC was led on for months while Rainn looked to replace them with someone R saw as more ā€œappropriateā€ for their goals in the workplace. (Although that’s looking kind of dependent on how you’re playing through the game and how blindsided your MC was with the breakup.)

But we also know that up until the day before, Rainn was still replying to MC’s texts and had been replying to and participating in phone calls with MC for months about MC moving to New York. MC could have been less specific rather than more specific in the calls and texts, but ā€œI found a job and it’s not far from the apartment!ā€ is pretty specific, and Rainn knew that MC was moving to New York for them. So the whole ā€œwhat are you doing here/I thought we were taking a breakā€ conversation is put the lie to just by that. If R thought they were on a break with MC, why were they still in contact up until the day of the surprise? Why was there no discussion of ā€œdo you know where you’re staying when you get here?ā€ which would have at least clued MC into the fact that they weren’t on the same page? R may not have lied materially, but they’re an attorney. They know they lied and led MC on. They may not have intended it that way, but that’s how it turned out. And while we don’t know that type of law they practice, a conflict-avoidant attorney is a bit much for me to believe.

So we don’t really know yet just how angry to be.

I did noticed that the mc is incredibly naive. I even thought they were some kind of a country bumpkin who has no experience in the real world. Rainn might have just took advantage of that naivety really. Which make it indeed so horrible when they where blindsided by the whole break up and homelessness.

The MC is not unreliable, they don’t lie or hallucinate, they just don’t know everything.

Hey everyone! I’ve moved the Apartment 502 discussion off the Twine thread as it’s not a Twine game - I’m not sure whether the author is active on the forums, but if she ends up making a WIP thread here, I’ll merge the threads to keep things tidy.

How awful would it be if MC was the ā€œpractice girlfriend?ā€ Given what Andi says about how Rainn plans things out three or more years in advance, I could totally see them having a practice relationship before going in for a ā€œrealā€ one.

But isn’t not having all of the relevant information enough to make them, at least temporarily, an unreliable narrator? They’re jumping to conclusions that perhaps cannot be supported by the actual events out of ignorance, how is that substantially different to doing so due to mental status or a purposeful desire to mislead? Once MC has all the information needed, then they can be considered reliable, but at this point, everything is very, very subjective and one-sided.

Thanks for this!

I was thinking that the MC might be unreliable because of their emotional state, which can influence the way they perceive things (for example, the hug between Rainn and the stranger and Rainn’s wistful look that the MC sees as romantic when it could very well be platonic).

Going back in to play (not half-asleep this time) because of this comment, but given R’s behaviour, this incident would probably destroy any platonic feelings/relationship as well. Just the base disrespect of it all…shaking head

this game is such a good find, absolutely in love with the writing style and the sitcom vibe. the characters are all really interesting but of course the RO i’m most interested in has a partner LMAO. not sure how i feel about rainn tbh….the whole situation is a little murky and the MC definitely could be an unreliable narrator…but then i’m stuck on Andi, there’s no way they didn’t know :face_with_raised_eyebrow: idk

Just here to say that I’m absolutely ready for the messiness that’s going to be Cal’s love triangle. :kissing_heart:

Other ROs I’m looking forward to romance: L, M, and Rainn (but only if I can make them suffer first).

Pretty sure that’s just classic sitcom misunderstanding of the situation for the sake of a cliffhanger, to be resolved shortly in the next installment.

Rainn during the breakup scene is a complete emotional mess, i absolutely don’t see them as suddenly capable of convincing lying there, nevermind it’s not like they’d have any real reason to lie at that point, with the breakup done and the relationship already over.

Gonna be honest, the whole Rainn plot kinda ruin the basis of the game for me because the natural narrative flow of that entire thing would be for the misunderstanding to be cleared, for the issue that led to the whole thing to be revealed and solved and for the MC and Rainn to get back together and I have trouble deviating from that as it feel like ā€˜Denying the plot’ which I don’t find fun.

Compare this to Friends, one of the best sitcom ever, each of the Friends come into the show in episode 1 with baggage that also serve as a fresh start, which let them truly connect with each others and develop their storylines while the story can focus on all of them.

While here, the Rainn thing is like if the show centered on Rachel and the husband she left at the Altar showed up right from the start to get back with her, while showing Rachel is really still emotionally connected to them. It kinda take over everything IMO.

I have to admit, the Rainn issues keep me from seeing it as a romcom at all, and that’s compounded when M comes into the picture at work. It’s more like a soap or a melodrama that wants to be a dramedy. I’m not really finding much humor in it.

I’m gonna be the first to say it, Rainn is irredeemable, it’s forget Rainn season and all my homies hate Rainn. Thank god I didn’t have to listen to their bull bro, the author definitely got it right that they from New York because what are they are WAFFLING ABOUT. I hate Rainn and I’m standing on it, but other than that I can tell this game is gonna be peak.
