An Unexpectedly Green Journey (orc life-simulator) [1.5+ Million Words] POST-RELEASE DISCUSSION- NEW! Speculative poll for focus of new DLC

Of course!

Just because the book didn’t have all I was after doesn’t mean i would tear it apart, I’m not an arsehole lol.

And again, I was enjoying it - even if it didnt have RO, unfortunately, I do need a gender choice for myself (for obvious reasons), but not all stories are like that - and thats ok!

this is YOUR stories to design it and set it up to your liking.

Good job :clap:t3:

P.s. I would be ruling the world by lunch time lol :flexed_biceps:t3::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Haha! Yeah, you would!!!

I think my first Steam comment was a guy arguing with me when I told him that my orcs are effectively genderless. I had to go deep into my orc-plantoid lore. From the baborc, we sprout the orc (which we all see in the first few paragraphs), who is a vessel of murder and gluttony without romantic attraction or desires (which I think, to a degree, explains why they put their efforts into being violent creatures). When orcs die, from their ashes sprout baborcs, if they are lucky. So the ashes and baborcs are the bits which do the do, in a plant way.

Excuse my need to explain crazy plant-orc lore. Just in case someone follows up, I can direct them here.

No!

it makes total sense to me, Orc in your story are like plants that birth and grow like seedlings :+1:t3:

people need to learn that they can’t always get what they want, even in stories lol

I couldn’t resist going and reading the discussion. It certainly was… something.

I knew I vaguely remembered some guy a long time ago arguing with pretty much everyone he could about the “realism” of orcs being technically genderless and born en masse from plant pods in a completely magical world with stuff like dragons and mage academies

Just… the sheer nonsensical audacity

I think they left a comment on itch.io too. I was a bit baffled at the angle of attack, lol – to descend into attacking plantoids!

The thing that worried me was that it was the first or second comment. I thought, suddenly, that would be the focus of every comment complaining about my planty orcs not having dangling bits or the like. It is the earliest comments, in the threads here or on Steam, that could really sink a new game.

In a way, I was lucky they didn’t buy the game on Steam and give it a negative review so early on.

EDIT: Much appreciation to those who gave my game good reviews on Steam. One day, I may hit the 50 tag and be promoted from ‘positive’ to ‘very positive’. Perhaps, when Shriek comes out, regardless of how it is reviewed, it might nudge 2 or 3 more reviews to tip me over. It is the big dream, private jets and a ‘very positive’ review score on Steam :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Now I’m picturing orcs having the dangly bits of trees and releasing clouds of pollen in Spring. Thanks for that image.

Haha. Now that is a wonderful curse to stick into a DLC!

I did the same just now. It was something… I checked on their Posts. They type everything in Caps. Idk why :sob:

Almost all of them are arguments. I am laughing so much.

Bahahaa! I just thought about some terrible jokes… but thought it best not to say…

A comedy counter-epic quest would probably be golden, hidden amongst everything else, a bit of Discworld-ish madness. I think it could work. (I was also going to post a plant emoji, but in the current context it may not be seen as harmless.) :face_with_peeking_eye:

@Duke-Don I definitely fed a troll that day.

You were just one of many I think. They have posted across few other CoG/hosted games too. They also have a specific recurring post in some superhero sim game. They also got banned twice, which they bragged. Honestly this was fun rabbit hole. Kinda made my day.

Haha, yep, I have seen them lurk elsewhere. In my defence, I was, understandably, anxious when Green came out and, with the best intentions, just wanted to be amicable, even when stepping into the troll’s lair. Although it probably earned me a bit of sympathy during those early release days. Swings and roundabouts and all that.

I wish we had more time in the dark path like us throughout the centuries.

Hi @edward_obasuyi , I remember you! Yes, an aficionado of the dark path!

The dark path does have great potential to be a game on its own, though much expanded. It deviates from ‘orc life’, however, so I don’t think an expansion would be suitable for a DLC unless there was great demand.

You know, I think it would be fun to write a smaller Dark Lord/Lady simulator on its own, a detailed game focusing on corruption, where we insidiously influence people and things. I would like to try something narrower and deeper.

Would the Evil Overlord list make an appearance in this hypothetical project?

@NumberedEntity Peter's Evil Overlord List here you go, here is the source. There’s much more though.

Hi @Snowflower

What do you mean by the Evil Overlord list? Sorry if it is obvious… I’m having one of those empty-head days.

EDIT: Hypothetically, I am very open to all sorts of ideas. It would be focused only on one particular theme, which would let me indulge in it from many different angles, while not leading to massive scope creep, which is my doom.

EDITEDIT: Otherwise, I was even thinking about a supernatural-detective thing when our MC investigates the rise of a demonic cult. Always found stories like this fascinating, with the slow drip of dread and the gathering of evidence. Shorter projects, after a short Green DLC, before I go back to starting a very large project. I think I could get a shorter project completed relatively quickly, as long as I plan it out.

EDIT (AGAiN)

@Snowflower

Haha! My word, I haven’t seen this for a true age. I’m certainly forgetful! I’d be a poor evil minion with such a memory, though it would not affect my abilities as Overlord, as I will, most certainly, pass the buck with sadistic aplomb.

Well, well, this could fit into such a game… Excellently. Much modified, of course, copyright and all that. Yes, this shall be saved and referred to many, many times… It does leave me with a conundrum, creeping dread and bits of humour? Could work (I’ve been watching Widow’s Bay; this pulls it off). Hmmm.

Thanks for alerting my weary mind to THE BLUEPRINT.

Yesss because I was gone from cog for a few months then remembered this game and thought that dark path should be able to be played on allot more as it’s very interesting.

I agree there is great potential for something built around the rise of a cult/evil and all the insidious, and less subtle, ways an MC could bring this about.

I will admit, I am interested in something like this – though I am also interested in making its mirror, where an MC investigates the subtleties of such a cult, piecing together info and following the trails of rumours and esoteric tomes.

Potentially, a game could have both paths, where the MC might be tempted away from his/her investigation to mislead other investigators while empowering himself/herself. I’d like to make it slow-burn, a thing of creeping dread. I do have ideas for such a game. I wouldn’t want to make it massive but would want to keep it tighter, under 500K.

But I am not sure what I will do next. Perhaps I could try a different style of game before I write a DLC for Green. It might freshen up my head a bit after living in the world of Krog Pile for the last few years… Or, even if it is in the world of Krog Pile, it might be nice to write a self-contained thing.

I always have lots of ideas… Hmmm, I will have to think about things. I do need a little break from great big broad games.
