An Unexpectedly Green Journey (orc life-simulator) [1.5+ Million Words] OUT NOW!

Why are Halflings so weak militarily? the orcs shouldn’t be the Halfling’s whetstone?, I also wanted to know why the collision didn’t try to exterminate the orcs on the planet considering that they could recover in the next few decades

Have me pondering things to a muchness!!!

Here’s my thoughts.

Halflings are not physically well-built for war and they also lack the temperament for it. Before the First Rise of the Orcs, they lived in peace and abundance. Their small stature and jovial disposition did not cause any conflicts with other major powers. Additionally, at that time, humans were located far to the east and the elves and dwarves were fighting with each other. The halflings had no idea about the horrors that the dwarves would unleash from the mountains.

The halflings currently live under the protection of The Empire. As they feel safe and secure, they have yet to militarize. It is safe to say that in a world where battles are fought face-to-face, the halflings would never be a force to be reckoned with, as they prefer to dedicate their time to cultivating gardens, farms and maintaining their quaint villages.

The coalition believed that they had taken the necessary course of action, but they were tired and tensions were high. Completely eradicating the orcs would have been very expensive in terms of both lives and gold, leaving the green beasts with no choice but to fight or die. Moreover, cornered animals tend to be the most dangerous. By sparing the orcs, the coalition was able to prevent many halflings from becoming meals to satisfy their hunger.

Wars fought with the goal of completely destroying the enemy are extremely rare, even in our own world. Additionally, many noble humans would have been eager to return to their lands after a battle. Some may have feared that taking revenge too far could lead to succumbing to the Darkness.

Lucky they didn’t wipe out the orcs else they’d all be mindless thralls of the cyclopes. History has a funny way of turning things on their heads.

But… if your orc tries to conquer Arbit again and fails, then the other races will not be willing to grant a final mercy this time.

Don’t other nations have a distrust of the human empire? because from what I see they seem to control trade in addition to having a superior military force in some aspects, wouldn’t that cause insecurity in the elves or dwarves? Furthermore, what was the coalition’s form of leadership? sole leader or a council? If it’s the advice, wouldn’t that make it more difficult to fight the orcs? What was the military peak of each nation?

The Empire is the most metropolitan culture in all of Arbit, containing many non-humans who are not slaves and are free to come and go as they please. This fact does help to make the other races more open to hearing Imperial ambassadors out and even reaching compromises with them.

But, of course, they don’t really trust perfidious humanity- except for the halflings.

The coalition was a haphazard coming together of mutual interests. At first, each of the allies alone, without taking into account the movements of others. However, when the orc threat grew too potent a compromise was reached. Since Humanity was contributing the most troops, they would have the final say on affairs after council meetings. It could only last so long and had its pros and cons.

The ancient history of this world is very much a mystery (unimagined/unrecorded in enough detail to be comprehensive). The Empire is a relatively late addition.

The elves are the oldest of the major races. They never had a great ‘empire’ as such, living peacefully across the continent with many other fairy/fey races, while great forests covered most of Arbit. It was when the dwarves conquered a vast territory across the northern peaks, and the Jagged Divide, before turning their greedy demand for resources to the forests in the south, that major conflict first occurred.

This was the peak of dwarven power. While the men in the east were only just learning the arts of cultivation, the dwarves fielded great legions, used to fighting all the filth under the mountains and the Jagged Divide. They possessed cog-and-steam cannons and golems.

But, as we know with dwarves, they always dig too deep, too greedily.

Do orc clans have coats of arms?

Nothing official or consistent. Though some will have favoured combinations of bones, tusks, furs and scrap metal- often with symbols of a green eye. Though these will mostly represent individual chiefs rather than a clan, unless the chief is a great one.

Clans have been known to stylise their armour to distinguish themselves from other tribes- or use tattoos and facial jewellery. Those these do change in line with trends and precedents.

How to spare halflings during conquest? I helped Emperor Callisto with the mask parade and asked him for the royal roads and for him not to intervene but when the time comes the game doesn’t give the option to let them surrender but I remember there was an option for that how do I do it unlock it?

When you march through the shires, do not ravage their lands. The option to let them surrender should appear just outside of Great Rest, when they muster their army.

EDIT: You need to ensure your presence is at least 70- or else your orcs will give in to their instincts to slaughter the halflings, as well marching straight past their hamlets and not pillaging them.

My presence is 77 but only these two choices appear

“Smash the halflings with a single, great infantry charge.”

“Smash the halflings with a single great, speedy boar charge.”

After the battle at the border forts, or if you have bypassed them, you get three options.

#Burn them to the ground and slaughter the local population.
#Loot them, but spare the inhabitants.
#March straight past them. ← Choose this one.

Then you will get the option below.

#Since the halflings are waving white flags, better hear what they have to say. ← Pick this

Then you will get this option

#Gladly accept Whiskeyhop’s terms, for the cost of a few of your horde to man the forts. The New Shires will come under your dominion. Trade will flourish along the Royal Road. ← Pick this

Keep in mind, that if you have picked the war path, to build the greatest army instead of focusing on culture or diplomacy, then some diplomatic options will be unavailable.

By the look of your options, you have made sure the Empire will not help the halflings and so you won’t have to fight them at the harbour of Great Rest, but you have also angered the halflings with some of your actions, leaving them determined to fight to the very end. Or, you have gained a blood thirsty, warlike reputation with the actions of your kingdom.

I think I was too brutal with the elves and dwarves because all that comes out is 'The halfling army takes a ragged line. Your lads find it hilarious.

Small, with stubby daggers in one hand, pots and pans on their heads, patchwork cloth and leather armor and rickety shields fashioned from barrel lids, this pint-sized army of misfits is entirely ill-prepared for war. None of the walking meals is more than three feet tall, almost two and a half times smaller than the average orc. Not an army, a mere nuisance!" then directs you to the choices I mentioned

I focused on culture they even show the white flag but like my orc just ignores it

@Brazilian

There is a narrative event which stops you from getting the ‘halfling surrender’ event. I cannot remember all of it, I wrote it quite a while ago and it may, in fact, not be relevant now- I have slipped in a new little bit of code to help you- though I will test it a bit tomorrow and see if it interferes with the narrative. If not, I will keep it in.

There are two paths with the same options, one does not give you the halflingsurrender =true variable. Yet, this may no longer be appropriate, so let’s see how this goes. Give it a little while to update.

EDIT: Let me know if it works better for you when you next check it out, or if it suddenly stops making sense. I think it should be fine…

Back to the questions what will be the population peak of the orc empire?

This is just speculation as the future of Krog Pile is still unwritten and depends on many factors. I would not want to give precise figures.

There is likely to be a significant increase in the number of orcs, which often leads to internal conflicts unless a strong leader directs them towards war. This surge in numbers is always followed by a sharp decline, which is nature’s way of controlling the orc population.

A wise future ruler would seek to maintain a relatively stable or slowly increasing number of orcs.

UPDATE 14- Proofreading done- Game is now 1.53 million words
-This last month I have read through the entire game and tried my best to catch typos and squish the few bugs I found- Including 4 of the ‘green blob’ map images, which should help the functioning of the map.
-A few areas have been smoothed over, with a couple of new variables added.
- I have added more clarity to describe the stats being tested in many of the earliest fights.
-Though it might not be the most noticeable update, I have corrected loads of typos throughout the game!

What’s next:

I now need to do several things to send this off to Hosted Games to be published.
I will be:
-Sorting out the various title screens needed, of varying sizes.
-Creating an icon for the game.
-Writing various bits of blurb text, to appear on the sites where this game will, hopefully, be sold.
-Creating screenshot scenes for these stores.
-Sorting out the credits page and additional credits.
-Other stuff I’ve forgotten to do with finalising the game.
-I also want to implement the new checkpoint system, though this is unavailable in Dashingdon. As you know, Dashingdon uses its own save system.
-Potentially add a few minor suggestions- though these are likely to be added in a future update once the game is already out as I have seen other authors do this with their games. I feel I need to wrap up things right now. This will not be paid dlc, just a normal free update.

@Sancho

Big thanks Sancho for being with the game from the start. It has been a very productive year and I deeply appreciate all of the support of those in the forum.

All I can do now is ask that those who have enjoyed their green journey spread the word!
