I did want to make this a ‘calmer’ chapter than 5 and its high stakes action, but in a different way from Chapter 4. While 4 was more about getting to know the team and spending time getting to know them better, this one was intended more as, uh…
You guys notice how half the romanceable characters in this chapter have some deeper shit going on?
Do let me know what you end up thinking of it! I’ve not played the remake yet, but from what my friends tell me, it’s an entirely faithful re-adaptation.
Did you change something here? I could’ve sworn Aki used to say something along the lines of “I, uh, I don’t know how to answer that.” Now the MC’s response makes less sense.
I still think the best way to deal with the Cult is to air in the news that they called the Queen a sow and then just make sure no civilians drown in the rivers of blood and gore the King would turn the cultists into.
Gods, I’d almost forgotten how much I fucking loathe Gloria and now it’s all rushing back.
I’ll take “fucking piece of shit who contradicts himself in the span of two paragraphs and whose jaw I hope I get to rip out of his skull before this game is over” for $1000, Alex.
Seriously, we post this thing on TikTok or whatever it is kids are using these days and everyone in the Cult is dead in half a day, complete with crater.
Well, right off the bat they’re arms dealers who’re in charge of the equivalent of the Sentinel Program when their daughter is the equivalent of a mutant, soooooo…
I’d be careful if I were you, you don’t know exactly what topics they’re going to be discussing. You go in expecting a discussion regarding the evolution of the legislating process in the Roman senate but then you sit down and they hit you with “feudalism was good actually, and workers should be the legal property of their employers”.
At the risk of tipping my hand, I will say that the Coltellos aren’t the kind of people who would argue for feudalism. The time of feudalism, after all, was a very poor one, and the ability to engage in commerce very limited. To be a supporter of feudalism would require them to think they would grasp power and rule as petty kings of their own slice of the world, and they certainly don’t believe nor want that.
It’d be very bad for their businesses.
On the other hand, they are absolutely the kind of people who believe a weapons maker or a munitions factory has no moral responsibility for the tools of war that they create - they are simply providers, and it is the state that dictates whether or not to use violence.
It doesn’t matter if the ‘state’ is the democratically-elected republic of the United States, or the revolving chair of military warlords currently rising to power in West Africa.
Played through for my first time and I really liked the story, it seems really well made. I like the style of writing and the characters a lot. I’m excited to see more!
Aki content best content. I want to bundle up in blankets and hand her a mug of hot cocoa. The Evil Dead marathon on TV sort of dissonates a bit (ok, a lot), but that’s just Aki being best girl.
Also, what’s this “tool”? I hadn’t realised Dark Star was coming along for this.
I’d say “splendid”, but I’m pretty sure you didn’t have any doubts re.: my response to an Aki-heavy update. If I have one general note, is that some choices gave me the feeling that I would be able to pick all the options one after the other and it turns out I wasn’t.
I’ve finally played this demo after delaying doing so for ages.
A few comments that I will preface by saying that superhero YA is about as far from my preferred genre as possible. So by all means take this with a big helping of salt.
Firstly, the story with Crete and the King are really interesting. There might be a bit of an expo dump here and there, but I’m definitely hooked on the mystery. I have some issues with the pacing, particularly around Chapter 1, but every chapter offers an improvement on that front. I quite enjoyed the characters, I think the main six or so all have their time to shine and they don’t feel like cardboard cutouts, which is a common issue with this genre. They also seem to have mysterious connections with the plot which I find really interesting, but I’m focusing on what’s presented ‘on paper’ as it were, and not the various theories and lore that are floating out there. But still, quite looking forward to where this is going.
Regarding the prose, I would have liked the use of a bit more descriptive language and a bit less dialogue, but again, this is a genre thing. But I have absolutely no complaints on the action scenes, I think these are really well done and are definitely your strong point.
I’ll be following this project for sure, best of luck with it!
Slight note for everyone: I have been informed that the scene with Aki was missing one of its options, which forced the player into always convincing her to tell the rest of the team about her powers.
There’s a small sub-scene there if you don’t do that which wasn’t accessible, but it’s now been fixed. Apologies for that!
Wow, when I saw this at top of the forum’s latest threads, I couldn’t help but check it out, and I’m only sad I didn’t do so earlier. This is a very engaging work, with a narrative that moves as fast as its heroes do. I played through it once over the last couple days and found it well-balanced between action and quieter personal scenes. I found the characters compelling.
One thing that jumped out to me is how much every character, hero or not, is shrouded in mystery. Everyone sort of keeps to themselves and has some secrets, and it takes a lot to break through those walls. How this works uses a lack of information given to the player to encourage speculation and theorizing is very effective. It certainly leads one to want to interact with the characters they find most interesting to grow their relationship and uncover those hidden stories, regrets, and inner conflicts.
I did play through the Aki romance for my first go-around, and I liked the experience of seeing her come out of her shell a little bit. One thing I did notice, however, is that we don’t always have a lot of options in how we interact with her. Most of the romantic options are very confident flirtation. That works well for some play styles, but after all, one of the options for our character is someone who has no prior romantic experience.
Perhaps this is on my mind because of the very last scene I had with her, where she came into the player’s room to explain her autophagy. She attempts to initiate sex immediately after a conversation explaining how that power lowers her inhibitions. As the player, we don’t have an option to refuse her. At least to me, it was clear that she was still not herself, and in no position to consent, and in any case, the player may want to move slower than that. The script treats letting her into your room as implicit consent to intercourse.
This is NOT what happened in my playthrough. Let me investigate.
EDIT: Found it. This seems exclusively tied to how you respond to her confession. If you encourage her to tell the rest of the team, you get snuggles. If you just tell her you won’t tell, you get the almost-sex part.
I can definitely add in an option where you decide to move slower, it’d actually work extremely well with what I have planned to be the climax of her romance arc later on.
Thank you for the suggestion, and all the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the story, and that the mysteries have gotten your interest. If there’s any theorizing you feel willing to share, please don’t hesitate. I always love seeing people discuss what they’ve seen!
