A Tale of Heroes (WIP) - 241k words. Updated 08/01/2026!

Still writing, been averaging out at about 1,000 words every day. I think I know exactly where this update’s gonna end - I’m gonna take y’all all the way to the dinner with Ignis’s parents, and all the awkwardness therein.

Here’s where I’m ending things for tonight:

So… maybe I’m dumb or missed something… but when the mind-controller sets up on the TV station, why doesn’t the PC just fly to them and knock them out? Why fight through the crowds?
I mean, they can fly.

Including? Or are you gonna plottease us and end the update as we’re walking into the house or something?

P.S.: that phrasing feels a bit awkward. How do you feel about “having entirely forgotten that her powers include the ability to talk without actually talking.”?

It’s mentioned in the scene, but the roof is way too full and the controller is using the crowd to hide herself, which doesn’t let the MC just float right to where she is.

Well, I do love a good tease… but my plan is to give you the full dinner. :b

And yeah, I did change the sentence a little after reading through it a few times, no need to worry.

Good, otherwise I get hangry.

Okay I must have missed that part.
I suppose the heroes would also want to disable the crowd so the Mind-controller can’t just force the civies off the building.
Though I do find it amusing that Seeker is able to fly to the woman… after we clear out the crowd for him.
Teamwork, I guess!

He has a baaaaaaad habit of showing up once most of the work is done! Almost like he’s trying to claim the most fame or something…

Hey is the update going to take some time? Not trying to hurry you just asking.

Updates do take time, such is life, you don’t rush a masterpiece.

AToH isn’t dead unless I say it is, and I certainly haven’t said anything of the like.

The update is still being worked on, and it’ll be released in time.

Hi. :waving_hand:

Apologies for the silence. I’ve been… grappling with certain things I don’t feel all that comfortable sharing at the moment.

Writing is on-going, however. I will have an update out by the end of this month, and assuming I can get through all my edits, it will include the whole remaining portion of Chapter 6 and the dramatic conclusion to a most dramatic chapter.

How dramatic?

Well…

Hey! :waving_hand:

As promised, an update is out!

It covers the remaining bulk of Chapter 6, save for the great confrontation with the dreaded Coltellos. Regardless, it is very heavy on character stuff, and presents more than a few secrets and on-going debacles within the team. More than that, it introduces you to a great issue for powered people: Overcharging.

This is a very Aki-heavy update, so if you want to get the most content possible, I recommend you play while romancing her.

Please have fun, and sorry it’s taken me so long to get back! Looking forward to seeing what you guys think!

Oh, and before I forget, I do have a discord server for the game, in case you’d like to join that: A Tale of Heroes

It must be a dream or im seeing things cos i haven’t played the game for ages and now a update is here. Welcome surprise. Guess it’s time to play again to refresh myself on what happened so far and enjoy the new stuff.

Welcome back, Senõr Juan. I hope the grappling went your way!

I wasn’t aware there were other ways to play.

Did you change anything before Chapter 6, or can I load the save I made at the first page of it?

I’ve added a new variable at the start of the game that gets called in Chaoter 6 and changes some stuff with the back half of the Aki content, so I’d recommend giving it a full run.

You can play through the whole thing regardless though! It won’t cause any hard breaks or anything atm.

Note to everyone: I know there was a bug in the scene with the auras. I just pushed out a hotfix which I believe should have worked it out.

Full run it is! I’m not missing Aki content.

Can’t wait to go, “I can’t believe we’re trusting this fucker a single inch” every screen Gloria shows up. Again, I mean. >_>

“I did not seek”
–Seeker, present day, present time

I’m highly effective at following directions, so I romanced Nova—

The flow works well for me even without Aki smut. Other You remains great, really feeling more like a cohabitant these days, backseating our life. With the wording around the other multitudes in us, and with this whole Saints below and City of Giants stuff, I’m leaning towards Hell having somewhat literally spilled over.

As for quiet moments, I’m a fan of Ignis’s multitasking. Always nice to see how people use their powers in mundane life.

I do want to note there’s not a lot of choice here, some of which comes from us being placed in action where we move reactively, but for this stretch – without Aki romance – there aren’t really choices that feel like they’ll matter later. The major choices for variation were made long ago, when we choose to romance Aki, or when we don’t pursue anybody because we’re interested in “my shirts are too small to contain my muscles”. Here we’re going through consequences.

On an unrelated note, while our attention’s been turned towards the [V]alkyria grand mystery and less so (but not entirely) the [V]ictoria one, I’ve finally scheduled the Trails in the Sky remake off my backlog for maybe the week after next, so that can finally influence my thinking.
