I wouldn’t call it an alien, it’s probably more of a compulsion. The point of it is to keep you on task and remind you that you need to get stronger.
You ain’t going to be useful to bringing the Queen back if you’re a soft little weakling my friend.
One of the things that you have to remember about the King is that he comes from a different time-period right. Humans were much more primal back then- one of the universal truths he understands is that if you are not strong you will be dominated.
I don’t think it’s as much “used as a shield” as “there’s actually nothing that can come close to you if you’re featuring temperatures akin to the surface of the sun.”
Well if your theory turns out to be true we’re already fucked, as in dominated, anyway and what our mc’s want really doesn’t matter since the powers we wield are not our own, or even those of a now inextricably linked alien “symbiont”.
On the outside, not on the inside, so it is quite effectively shielding the mc.
No these are your powers, he just wants you to rapidly hit your ceiling as fast as you can. Remember that you have the potential to be in the second-most powerful tier if you just stay the course. He wants you to get there and he’s urging you to not get distracted in your pursuit of these powers.
The King is invested in your development, it’s why he’s probably keeping tabs on you and Lat.
I am like 98.65% sure @Bryce_Kaldwin isn’t right. The MC/Lat powers aren’t a result of the King’s influence for some cockamanie plan to resurrect the Queen. I don’t know WHERE they come from, but the reason your Other keeps telling you to kick it up is so you can face the same thing the Cult is trying to rouse the King to fight against (see the Regenerator’s speech at the end of the current demo).
There’s something big and bad coming. The Cult thinks the best chance against it is a pissed-off King. Whatever else thinks the best chance is you and Lat.
That’s kinda hard to believe since the mc did not seem to have the powers prior to the earthquake and the blue energy thing invading their body.
The only question is why would he even care about that since he’s the first tier and there is still an exponential difference between those. Unless Lat has a resurrection power he lacks or something, but in that case why would he need the mc? To protect Lat? But Lat is already in the League and they would protect her anyway.
Please stop with the Other!MC uncanny valley type stuff, in that case, as that is just creepy as heck. At least that is what my mc would like to tell him if Other!MC is his method of communication.
This is as crazy a theory as I’m willing to entertain at the moment: this isn’t the first time the big and bad thing that is coming has threatened coming. The reason why the MC’s powers and invasive personality (notice how you instinctly want to fight shit? You know, like the King’s first response to everything is “kill it with fire, ten times over”?) are so close a match in theme to the King’s (and possibly Lat’s to the Queen’s?) is that the King and Queen got their powers the same way YOU did, and for the same reason. This is round two. Hope you learned all the combos the first time around, because practice time is over.
They aren’t because of the King, they are your powers. He just senses that you’re going to be very strong and thinks that you’re going to be useful to him. It’s very much a, “I’d prefer you were on side as an opposition” interest in you and Lat.
The King’s been around a lot of very powerful and less than powerful individuals. He’ll have a good sense of the scale at this point.
He’s interested in you because he wants to know if you’re going to possibly become an annoyance to him.
One of the things I want to see is him just tank a blow from us, laugh, spit a broken tooth out, and go “I haven’t been hit this hard in a while.”
How is this taking place? Because last I checked, the King has exactly two interests: “bring the Queen back” and “protect her beloved Crete”. How is the MC going to be useful to him in any meaningful way?
You are not. This is not in the cards.
Lol, no. If we’re actually hitting the King (a big if to start with) he’s not going to laugh at it before hitting us into orbit. Murder is step one, there is no step two. The King kills shit and then gets on with searching for a way to bring the Queen back. “Having fun slugging it out” is not on the menu until the Queen is back.
Remember how Forlorn reacted when you punched him in the face? It’s sort of like that, except you get beaten to a pulp before you can massage feeling into your fist.
I think the King can get to Crete pretty quickly if he senses it’s in danger. So we’re probably related to bringing the Queen back.
I like how stubborn you are in your belief that you think your ken and his isn’t intertwined. My friend- we both know that you and the King will meet at some point. In fact I’ll make a bet right now this is how confident I am. I will bet that you have already met the King at some point.
Overall, I think you’ve fallen into the trap of seeing the Myth of the King and not the man. The Myth of the King is one thing- him as a man is different. I would say with confidence he loves contests of strength and skill it would fit his character. He’d enjoy an opponent who is strong.
We know he can, because he already did. There’s a bunch of US military with broken legs to attest that fact.
This is one of the biggest non-sequiturs I’ve seen. How are we related to bringing the Queen back?
This is irrelevant to the current status. The King’s top priority is bringing the Queen back. Any opponent is a slowdown to that, and is therefore to be removed from the board with extreme prejudice.
My whole point has always been that you’re only important to the King because you and Lat might be a key part of him getting his Queen back.
It’s why he’s keeping tabs on you, it’s why a possible manifestation of your powers in your mental-space wants you to get strong because it senses a predator lurking in the shadows behind you, and above all the author did mention that a powerset that can occur is foresight and precognition. It might be why the Broken Cult has started to make moves now. Since they might have gotten visions of the King’s return to the general public coming soon.
They might want to accelerate it in fact.
This is all my own speculation but, it does make sense with how I think this story might go.
My original idea for that scene was actually closer to an attack like this:
(I’m on my phone, so put it at 3:01 to see what I mean).
But with how the scene ended up happening, I had to get you in the middle of the machines, instead of far off.
Anyway, the answer’s yes, you can extend it outwards- at least when you’re operating at that level of power. You’ll be using actual beams, instead of just energy bolts, when your next ‘serious’ fights happens.
Ah, so you picked that up, too.
No comment on the theory in general, but this part isn’t true.
The Queen hits harder than the King does, at least when it comes to brawn.
I think things are more shaping up to be that, if there’s a precog invovled, they’re the originator of the Cult who, having seen the big bad thing coming, figured that the King was the best bet to beat it back, and formed the Cult to bring him out and piss him off.
If there IS a precog behind the Cult, however, they’d presumably the ones who told, e.g., the Regenerator that their Japan stunt would bring out the King, meaning there’s something mucking up the works (“Why isn’t he here? We were told…”).
Note also that the Regenerator refers to the King being “on Earth as the Sun is in the sky”, and look at who just literally heat up the neighbourhood. The more I think about it, the more I think MC and the King got their power in the same way from the same origin to fight the same thing. Anybody got the seismic reports of Forever Ago BC to see if there was an earthquake at the time and place the King powered up?
I mean, dude got shot in the forehead and the hole closed up, hard not to. Insulting of you to assume that I’m not putting EVERYTHING Gloria says and does under an electronic microscope.
The only question is if he can regenerate from the full-body boom-boom of the bomb going off inside the forcefield.
How’s the back?
Could be worse, you could be referencing a Nintendo proper- gets hit by a Cease and Desist
Also, you can’t be sued over Kamehameha, because Toriyama stole that name from an Hawai’ian king in the first place.
The King always to me seemed to be like Lat but he chose to lean into a more savage persona. Since IIRC, he wandered for a while before he met the Queen.
She was the one who convinced him to even put down roots.
From his writings we can see he was tender, I wouldn’t call him an intellectual but he did think his actions through. He projected a stoic and bloodthirsty persona because it suited him since he seems introverted and intensely private.
The Queen on the other hand was much more extroverted, she seems charming and much more charismatic. But, at the same time she is intensely prideful and can react viciously when that pride is stomped on.
Personally, I think she wiped out those Byzantines because she had enough with their high-handed treatment of her and her beloved. That’s the vibe I get from them both.
Not with his powers, he didn’t. The Queen rescued him from slavers.
This would make the QUEEN more like Lat, not the King. One of the choices you have near the start of the game definitely establishes Lat as a full-on extrovert. So does, well, everything about Lat.
They… wiped the Byzantines because the Byzantines were going full cruel on the Cretans. Never go full cruel.
The Byzantines weren’t high-handing the Monarchs, they made them the generals of their 80,000-strong army.
He wasn’t given enough juice to do that, I’m afraid. Dude’s gonezo now.
Better! The flu’s gone now, more or less, and so are the pains. I’ve been taking it easy to avoid giving it a chance to return.
I’ll take my place back at the writer’s chair after my birthday.
This is true. The King was never one to discuss philosophy or poetry, but the Queen taught him to be more than just instinctual.
Since her death, he’s obviously learned much about a lot of subjects, but he’s not particularly taken with intellectual pursuits, despite how much time he likes to spend thinking.
Relatively. The King is very much a ‘The problem with killing you is having to clean up the carpet’ kind of person, but as you can see in a few of the writings, he much prefers solitude to being the center of attention.
That was more suited to the Queen, who loves being seen, and even praised.
Truly learning about her reasons for destroying Phokas’s army will have to wait until/if you meet the King, but it’d be a lie to say it didn’t feel damn good to show Phokas that for all of his grandstanding, he sure as shit wasn’t even close to her equal.
No, this isn’t the case. The King’s first kill as a child were slavers, but by the time he and the Queen met, he was as free as any animal can be.
If anything, he was a bit of a pain in the ass to his surroundings. Look back to the ‘Her One Mistake’ writing I shared a few months back.
Not quite. The General in charge of the Cretan Expedition was a man named Nikephoros Phokas, who ended up becoming Emperor a few years later (mostly because the Emperor during the Expedition refused any attempt to save face and just gave the Hero-Monarchs whatever they asked, perhaps wisely).
The King and the Queen were more than just foot soldiers, but definitely nothing like commanders. Think of them as a mercenary duo, more like, whose job was to act as an extra battering ram/fight any powered that the Emir might have had under his sleeve.
Oh, I must’ve misread when you talked about this, then.
But here’s the important part of your post:
This implies his powers were manufactured. SOMEBODY is out there just making supers. We have a Power Broker, ladies and gentlemen.
And they’re in with the Cult. Meaning the Cult has a pretty-much-infinite supply of superpowered folk at their disposal. Fun times. Gloria’s plan is even worse than I thought, then, and my opinion of it wasn’t all that great to start with.
…
Ok, fine, I guess the part of you feeling better is also important, I GUESS!
