In any well written story, a character needs to rise before they fall or the fall has no narrative weight to it. Take Solaire from Dark Souls 1 for example, the entire game he’s there to help and he’s chasing his own sun and all that jazz but if you mess up at the end and don’t save him he becomes an enemy and you have to kill him before moving to Gwyn. You wouldn’t get the same impact if you met the character at a low point and they keep going low, yeah you can exposit how they used to be but it’s better to show it rather than tell it, it doesn’t often work when you see the aftermath with none of the prelude.
It could always get lower
But you DO get an impact with a low start into a high mid/end. What matters is contrast. For example, one of Sir Terry Pratchett’s most lauded characters, Sam Vimes, starts literally in the gutter. And I DO mean literally. He gets better.
True, I just wasn’t talking about that. My point was that broadly things work better when you get that contrast, be it either way. It’s why a major trope is the zero to hero, Luke went from a random farmhand on a desert planet to a badass Jedi that could take on Darth Vader and win. Yes, people like the characters that are already lauded but when you see those people do well its expected and less exciting. There needs to be an arc, be it up or down
Okay, so wait, Is it just them 3? or can we romance some of the others and those 3 are just the MAIN ROs?
Oh, blast from the past right there.
No, the others are equally valid ROs, they just hadn’t been introduced at the time of that post so I hadn’t mentioned them.
But Forlorn, Mars and Iris are all valid ROs too.
That’s gonna be very interesting, will we survive it though?
I am SO ready to take that risk. If I remember correctly, at some point back in this thread (or maybe tumblr), you said that Forlorn will be romanceable only by male MC’s, is this still the plan? I am not complaining, just curious. I would totally make a male MC just to romance him.
I just saw this picture on a ask on Shepherds of Haven Tumblr and-
I don’t think so (though I’ll note that a fair bit of his path will only be ‘fully settled’ once we’re onto Book 2), but I have always thought of him as being at least somewhat male-preferring, same as Nova (and technically Ignis too, but in her case it’s different since y’know, girl).
Lat is MC-preferring
Hmm didn’t know that, since I played romancing Nova as a female MC. Maybe one day I’ll try romance him as a male MC too.
Sexuality: MC-Simp
It’s not a super textual thing, although he and Mars certainly seem fairly chummy. Nova is canon bisexual though, not playersexual, so he’s open for anything.
It’s not really brought up in-game yet (certainly not beyond vibes I think), but his last serious partner was a guy back in Nicaragua. You’ll learn more about that period of time (and why they broke things off) in Chapter 6, since you’ll interact with Nova and his family.
Since I’ve read this WIP from the first time, I liked Nova. And then @Jjcb posted his official art , and I was like “Oh he’s so pretty! But wait, there is a button on his shirt?” and then, I zoomed the image. “Pretty AND smart”, that’s my man.
Wow meeting the parents already? LOL I can’t wait to meet his sister!
Listen, I know I’m only on chapter 2. But I feel like i’m going to commit a crime if I don’t get more time with Forlorn- and Forlorn alone, RIGHT THIS SECOND!! I mean, can you blame me!???
And oh boy…I think I accidentally gave the wrong impression to Lat though. Unless MC and Her being a blushing mess after the fight is just canon regardless of relationship.
Summary
Can’t wait until there’s a save though. Kinda sucks having to start all the way over, if you pick a choices that end up effecting the wrong stat. For example thinking a choices seems easygoing but it actually is MC being serious.
I certainly cannot! Wait until Chapter 4 if you wanna be with him, then.
I think you might have picked an option that leads to flirting, if that’s what you got. The MC tells her to get off of them with a joke otherwise, if I remember right.
There should be one, unless Moody took away the feature. I think you have to make an account to use it, though!
Ohhhhh okay, i’m going to try that!! See if that works!
@Jjcb One more thing, for here. If we choose the Last one, will it close me out from Forlorn? or Romance in general? Or is it just like a ’ i’m not interesting in THIS moment type of thing’?
Will you ask anyone?
“Hey, Aki, would you like to dance?”
“So, Nova, you’re a fan of this guy, right? You wanna dance?”
“Hey, Abe,” says Lat. “Want to dance?”
Well, here goes nothing… “Yo, Ignis. Would you like to dance?”
I’m more interested in the Mars guy, actually.
I’m good, honestly. The whole romance thing isn’t really my scene.
Next
Forlorn will only be properly romanceable in Book 2, so no, these choices don’t lock you away from romancing him later on.
I thought she was a doomed ro through which I why I gave up on her. I’ll do it once to see how she handles turning the mc away since she and seeker will have a thing eventually.
