But I’m gonna love it when you tell them what the answer is.

Ugh, that would do it! My mc is going to beat Yu up until they tell him how that damned unbinding ritual works and how to perform it, NOW! :rage:
Yeah, I know the mc’s parasites weren’t bound by a proper ritual, still his guess and mine is that Thaubal must have started from somewhere back in the day and the most likely starting point would have been the proper ritual. So now my mc will research in reverse, starting from the unbinding ritual to figure out how to expel the unwanted boarders…so the next set of Arcana wielders the backer of the twins is going to send after us…my mc would want to capture them for his own experiments in how to expel, or if necessary kill the parasites. :persevere:

My mc refuses to accept that, since three of those four are completely useless and the fourth basically forces him to inflict horrendous self-torture. Besides if Thaubal could research how to make them my mc could probably research something himself…particularly if Eli was actually being helpful, instead of just inflicting more torture under the guise of “healing” and he had any resources. :persevere:

That would be a start at least, but yet we cannot even seem to do that. :unamused:

You’re probably SOL’d with Thaubal’s bindings, but you could always evict Raegusa.

Okay I’m back with another theory after my 6th playthrough this week since I can’t get enough of how good this game is

Here goes

I just did a playthrough as working for the Archangel division and i came across the scene with the Noble woman that tries to bribe you but ends end up handcoffed and thrown in the dungeon…using the same kind of handcuffs that you were handcuffed with before your death ( which by the way was what triggered this theory in my mind ).

What if Arcadia ( Tahlia ) was pulling the strings all along ? What if she was behind your execution in the first place ?

This sounds wild but think about it.
I was told by another user that Tahlia is just after power and influence and ruling over the newly established Arcadia rather than revenge and we’ve been informed in the game that the Archangel has deep reach in all of Arvanand. ( This theory connects to my other theory of Ante being a spy for Arcadia ) what if you were the target all along ? Remember that the MC is supposed to come from a very pure blood Arcadian family and that the MC has exceptional talents unheard of even among Arcadians ? What if Your loyalty to her / the MC power was the target all along ?

Tahlia was aware of the experiments conducted by Thaubal ( I dunno if I spelled his name right ) and she knew how exceptional the MC is. she even tells the MC of how potent the MC is a number of times

What if this is a plan hatched long ago ? What if she resurrected Eli as part of that plan to win your trust and loyalty whether by being in dept to her for resurrecting the MC or dept to her by resurrecting Eli or by holding Eli hostage and making him a tight collar around your neck ?

What if she was behind Eli never managing to find you in nearly a decade of searching for information about your whereabouts ? I find it hard to believe that the Archangel was unable to locate the MC for so long given how deep the roots of their information circle is.

So the summary of this theory is

Tahlia made a plan long ago when she heard of the exceptional power held by the MC and thus sought that power to herself. Whether she came across a way usurping the MC power to herself or by holding the leash over the MC doesn’t matter as long as that power is under her command. Perhaps sister was manipulated by Tahlia into coming up with that ritual to destroy the Param kingdom because she knew that the MC wouldn’t let it happen even if it meant sacrificing herself in the process due to the MC personality. How did she get an accurate read of the MC personality ? It’s quite an Easy thing to do when you have one direct source and a piece of cake to pull off considering she had 3 direct sources of information about the MC ( Eli / Sister / the Spy Ante ) so she baits the MC into solving the Ritual and stopping the explosion by leaving Thaubal research documents and tomes in their spot on purpose ( otherwise why on earth would Arcadia let information about the Arcadians and the Phantasma just lay there for the taking when they were actively trying to stay hidden from the world ? ) After analyzing the personality of the MC she Knew that the MC would definitely kill the saintess to stop the ritual from happening, which ties in to why the saintess was handpicked to be the Nexus of the ritual in the first place. and thus the saintess was picked as a scape goat for the purpose of manipulating the churche into an uproar to demand the execution of the MC or even execute the MC themselves if the King wouldn’t do it, which then opens up the door for Tahlia to resurrect the MC and either gain mc loyalty or force mc to submit by using Eli as a collar around the MC neck until she finds a way to take over the MC power

And yeah that wall of text came to me as I was driving and then thought ( what if the Archangel provided Ante with the shackles that the MC was tied up with )

Except your power sucks. Tahlia HERSELF tells you your power sucks. Thaubal screwed up royally, because none of the four original phantasma are yours, and that’s mucking up everything, to the point that every time you draw on one, you screw up your mana ducts*. You’re actually the least impressive of the three test subjects, phantasma-wise.

She’s definitely aware that, phantasma-wise, you suck, because until you nab Raegusa at the tomb, you are the worst phantasma user around. Being of the Mateus bloodline is useless when the Mateus phantasma is, apparently, nowhere to be found.

I am, in fact, incredibly reasonably certain that, of all the things the super-mage people AREN’T going to do, handing antimagic shackles to the non-mage people who go around genociding and enslaving them as a matter of course is pretty near the top of the list.

This is also incredibly convoluted, because if Thalia wanted to collar you and she already knew where you were, she could have done just that without involving Param at all: you spend an entire year at an inn with no back-up with screwed up mana ducts.

Additionally, as an Ishavak priestess, Thalia can’t actually make this

happen, because the Ishavak faith is all about not owning things, and, unlike the Jovians, Ishavakians can actually communicate with the objects of their faith. Tahlia is actually disgusted that the territory they had to get was Thurul**, because Salantira turned the whole place into a bunch of lavish estates, and ostentatiousness is ALSO anathema to the Ishavak faith.

The amount of absolute contortionism that people go to just to avoid admitting that Leomar is, in fact, an ass that’ll do the most politically expedient thing at any given point (bonus points if it lets him punch something in the face) and that Thalia’s goal is what she states it is and she’s willing to burn the entirety of the non-Arcadian world if that’s what it takes is astounding.

*I hypothesise that Raegusa is actually perfectly safe, because I think it’s an attuned phantasma for you now

**and they HAD to get Thurul, because New Arcadia is floating right above it, and the Arcadians can’t risk it getting discovered

As much as that idea sounds really cool, it relies on way too many moving parts and shifting factors to the point where there are more practical ways to achieve A similar result; plus, we don’t know enough about her logistical capabilities and how her mind works to see if she could even pull that off. Also, as mentioned, your powers suck, and all she wanted was a decent mage to help her achieve her goals. There are much easier ways to achieve someone’s loyalty then creating a convoluted plan to essentially kill them off and then revive them instead of, you know, just walking up to them and talking to them like a normal person and trying to convince them to join your side, or the stereotypical kidnap/brainwash method

it would be impossible to convince the MC to do that given what the MC went through with Thaubal and Arcana

as for why she needed to kill her and resurrect her
she needed to put her in the “correct” mind set, all the MC knows is that Param King and the Jovian Church were behind the execution which then would lead to the MC holding a massive Grudge against them which happens to align with Arcadia main goal of revenge against the oppressors who enslaved and committed geocide against them all for the sake of their religion
she wanted the MC to have a taste of that first hand

maybe she knows a way to not Royally fuck up like Thaubal ?

The Arcadians are treated like bullshit; all she would really need to do would be to give more examples like the plague, drop a few benefits of switching sides here and there, and depending on the mage, that would do it

She doesn’t - besides the point that she doesn’t know how to do what Thaubal did (otherwise, she has actual volunteers to go hogwild on), the entire point of Thaubal shoving four phantasma into you is that the phantasma for your bloodline is completely 404 (we don’t know why). The only way to not screw up phantasma’ing you is to not phantasma you at all.

Thaubal DEFINITELY knew about the MC’s family. He introduces them to Sister as a Mateus and he’s excited about it, showing he knows exactly what that entails.

Thaubal was almost assuredly not phantasma’ing people by trial and error, because there must be dozens of phantasmas. The logical assumption is that he devised a magical google that told him what the appropriate phantasma for a test subject was. That he was not able to find the MC’s phantasma suggests that that phantasma is somehow unavailable*.

*the only reasons I can think for this off the top of my head are:

a) the MC has a blood relation around somewhere, and THEY naturally got the phantasma when the previous wielder died, or
b) the Flame cult dude forced the MC’s phantasma into someone else before Thaubal tried to locate it

I’m actually pretty sure none of the kids gave their consent, but that didn’t stop Thaubal from going ahead anyway.

You… can’t usurp bloodlines. That’s not how bloodlines work. If it WERE like bloodlines worked, then her having her phantasma, like you say, would make it useless, because usurping your bloodline would make her phantasma NOT her phantasma.

thats the entire problem
the MC went through a lot of pain and shit because of Arcana, im certain the MC would prefer to have nothing to do with Arcadians no matter how

she would have had nearly a decade and all of Thaubal research + two of the test subjects ( sister and Eli ) to figure out how to replicate what he did.

and thats on point. Thaubal fucked up because he didnt know which Phantasma to bind to the MC…unlike him She has knowledge about the MC Family and most definitely knows which Phantasma is the appropriate one

Random tangent: but I’m pretty sure the assassin siblings are from the Empire, since the girl makes a comment that implies she isn’t from the continent.

If she knew what Phantasma would work for the MC, MC would have it by now; she doesn’t want some puny weakling

alas
the MC is beyond repairing at this point which means no need to bother to tell the MC about the Phantasma

but if she usurps the MC power to herself and given that she already has her proper Phantasma, that would be a good enough motive for her. as for why no brainwashing ? maybe the ritual to do so requires consent ¯_(ツ)_/¯

There’s nothing saying MC is beyond repair, especially since we have Eli now. Also, as shown, if you’re not using your proper Phantasma, you’re not at full power and you’re constantly on the verge of an agonizing death. The only way to use emcees Phantasma to its fullest extent would mean MC using it, and that would mean actually knowing what it is;

goddamn it XD
that line has triggered my brain into overdrive with a new theory

what if that is true. what if you do not need a phantasma because you already ARE a phantasma ?

Because Thaubal would’ve gotten his brains blown out long ago. And MC has shown no signs of being anything but human.

maybe he couldnt tell because he did the binding ritual so soon after getting the MC because he was excited he had finally found a Mateus

which also makes me wonder how did he get the MC
