The MCs knee can be in constant, light pain from saving the kids at the start even though you are travelling with what might just be the second best healing thaumer in the whole of Param, so “pain-killing” is probably not part of the spellbook in any way other than “fix the damage, fix the pain”*. Of course, even if it were, that’d require you to be allowed to take steps against the collar, which the collar is probably designed to impossibilitate in the first place.
This thing was almost certainly invented in Old Arcadia, meaning the people who you wanted to keep secrets from were other mages, and BETTER mages than anything currently existing to boot, and who would know of “collaring” being a possibility. If the thing isn’t at least 110.73% stealthy, it’d be next to useless.
*meaning that, magic existing or not, the male platypus remains one of the worst things to piss off in existence
I was curious if we could maybe talk to the Arcadians about saline. Like maybe be on board to kill Leo but not the other. Like we could even say that to. Because right now it’s one or the other and that doesn’t really make sense given that saline tried to save us and Leo sentence d us to death. So being full on murder hobo for both might not make sense for some players. For some they might just want revenge on Leon.
Nice Demo! Book 2 gave me some post-basement AOT vibes.
I kinda wish there was a more neutral path. On my first run, by the time I got to book 2 and all of their political intrigue, I was just about done with all of this bullshit.
I ain’t trying to deal with all of that shit. @Parivir Give us a way out homie. Let me mediate or something.
I get the whole freedom fighting thing with the Arcadians, but I really ain’t trying to murder my homies who burnt my ass to death. I get why they did it.
I also don’t want to kick the Arcadians when they just cleaned themselves off after getting jumped.
Let me sit in the middle somewhere.
I dunno. I guess I just feel like the situation is gonna unravel into a pick a side type scenario. It’d be nice if we could steer things away from that. I’m not some bleeding heart either. I can reason myself into believing some “ends justify the means” method.
Can you please explain me why they did it? I genuinely don’t understand. In my humble opinion Leon abandoned all of his brainsells except one while he was seeing the bbq order through. Even as a future leader it’s in his best interests to get to the bottom of this, not just burn the “criminal”. What if MC was just a single part of an anti-Param cult/organization? What if his crime was just a diversion from something big and destructive? You’d need information. I even think that they should have tortured the MC, because scars on the living body are better then no scars on the dead body. They could’ve even realised that MC was magically prevented from speaking this way.
Middle ground sounds kinda nice btw.
Y’know having a neutral option is kinda nice, we’ll just sit and eat some popcorn on the sideline while watching the fireworks, I literally did this in heroes rise when the bear and my handler started to squabble
This game is a balm to the soul, as always. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve replayed it, but one thing remains constant: I’ll always be a Leon simp. :’)
Idk about your play through. But in mine, my MC just didn’t answer the questions in a straightforward manner.
Leon asked him why he did what he did, and my MC basically just said “you’ll get it eventually, I had my reasons”.
If you think about it from Leon’s perspective, it looks like your buddy just beat the fuck out of a bunch of paladins (in my run anyways), killed a bunch of the spymasters people, and murdered the saintess.
It might be different for other people, but in my run, the MC just kinda did everything alone and kept it a secret. And when asked why, I purposely chose the cryptic answers.
So I get why Leon burnt my ass alive. His homie just did a bunch of crazy shit and isn’t explaining why.
As a king, you can’t really just let this slide. The people killed by my MC got families and they’d raise hell if the king didn’t give them justice for the murder of their loved ones. It would be a massive scandal too since the Leon is the MC’s friend. Not punishing the MC would also sour the relationship between Leon and the church.
The Arcadians the Silcur Duke murdered also had families, and Leomar’s literal first take was “let’s not punish him harshly.” And, since the punishment involved neither loss of title nor land, after he got out of prison he’d be put right back in charge of those families.
I mean, that’s not going to happen, because Mireil probably offed the Duke first thing, proving once again that broken clocks yadda yadda.
The king can let anything slide. That’s what it means to be the king in an absolutist monarchy. You get to do whatever you want.
That’s really not what it means to be a King in any kind of monarchy. Ultimately you’re still beholden to the many, many different interest groups and opposing centers of power in your country (the church, the nobility, the mob etc., all of whom would be howling for the MC’s head). Monarchs who think they can do whatever they wish usually have to rule through bloody handed tyranny or otherwise wind up with a knife in their back.
On the one hand, it’s true that what he could’ve done was limited because even as a king, the nobility/church/common people would fight for him to support them, but on the other hand, the fact that he buckled so easily under that pressure doesn’t really show us confidence about his leadership skills during peacetime
Out of curiosity what choices did you make that made it seem like that he wasn’t going to punish the current Baron of that province?
Only ask because from the one play through he seemed adament on seeing him punished grant it never got to see that resolution do to events with Miriel… This was also the playthrough where my MC helped convinced the new head of the village can’t recall his full name to spell it to be lenient on him and we carted him off to the dungeons until such a time final verdict was determined by the new head of the village… So he was in the dungeon at the time so…hmmm now there is a thought…is he actually dead or did he get free by the order of the broken flame he mentioned…
Two things about bio weapon dude; one: he wasn’t feeling the same pressure as he was during the barbecue, two: it’s not like he wanted him let loose, he was looking for a fair trial
I will admit that is the one thing that does hurt in the mc’s case. Particularly since a drawn out one would have given Saine and Ilya the time to find the exculpatory evidence.
It was pretty much the same in my run except MC put the sleeping enchantment on the paladins if I remember it right. I understand that there was pressure from the common folk and nobles. I also understand that during several months of MC’s absence someone could’ve been trying to turn the king against his retainer (like someone who wants the Royal mage position or just A.te) But like come on! Where is the trial? Where is thorough questioning? “Why did you do this?” “I did it for the good of Param…” “Ok, too vague, I guess we’ll arrange a bbq event and invite everyone”
If my friend did some crazy sh.t, I’d try to know the reason behind it with much more effort.
It’s not that he doesn’t get punished (he gets prison time), it’s that he unleashed an actual plague on innocent people and Leomar’s first response is “let’s not be harsh, death is too much” (death isn’t too much for you, though, apparently). And there’s no mention of losing lands or title, so when he gets let out, he’d be right back in charge of the people he unleashed a plague on.
He should have been in the dungeon when Mireil takes over, which means he’s probably dead.
He was not. There is, in fact, no mention of a trial whatsoever. Because in an absolute monarchy like Param, the royal family doles out whatever punishment it feels like it, every time. And even if he WERE, guess who definitely doesn’t get a trial, fair or otherwise?
I mean, when idonotlikeusernames and I are in agreement about something in this game, there really IS no wiggle room.
I will never get tired of pointing out that this whole shebang happens literally three months after the MC spends time alone and unobserved with someone KNOWN for their penchant for mind-control.
The more I think about the barbecue, the more it doesn’t make any sense. I replayed the moment in the dungeons and if MC thanks Ilya she says something along the lines of “it’s like he doesn’t know you at all”. So now I think those broken flame guys ruined everything. I guess their name checks out considering the execution type
Man, you don’t need to come up with conspiracy theories. Kings are asshats by nature, and the Parami royal line in particular has been specifically selecting for the less reticent in killing everyone around them at the drop of a hat since the kingdom was formed.
If anything, the Broken Flame would be interested in keeping you alive and around, so they could study how Thaubal crammed four phantasma, none of which are for your bloodline, into you without your mana ducts immediately committing suicide.
puts tinfoil hat on
But, look! It makes so much more sense that way! Why there is no trial, no search for evidence? Because someone presented the “evidence” to the king. And it’s a very incriminating sort of information that can endanger Param as a country, which is why it cannot be shared even with the closest allies such as Saine or Ilya! And this is why Leon emphasizes the MC’s surname (which legit offended me like dude why would you address MC by his surname it’s rude). removes tinfoil hat
