I was more referring to people who said they preferred the old demo because of it.
Ah good so its fine sorry! Im always twitchy abt ppl misunderstanding my phrasing and my point and thenaybe having a negative opinion abt it! Good ti know thou and sorry if i sounded snippy!( I hope i didnt)
I just wish we could actually challenge Talia instead of simply taking her words for it. My mage was a Param loyalist and I feel that the rewriten version don’t have enough options to oppose Arcadia like the prewritten. I swear I better still be able to insult Falco by calling him Talia’s dog like I could in the previous version.
I totally agree with you
It’s a bit early for that, though. It may come later, once PC has found their footing a bit and had a chance to actually see rather than just suspect (if you play it that way) that something’s hinky going on.
somehow i got the feeling this book will be all about arcadian perspective with a bit and piece about old gang… is there a book3 in planning so i can finally meet them ?
I still consider the revenge issue to be the most pressing concern. We need more specificity for who we’re actually mad at. I don’t want my options to be “forgive everyone” and “I want to burn the entire country down.”
My ideal nuanced option would be something like, I get what Leon did but I still hate his guts, fuck Param, They can rot in hell for all I care, and I owe something to the only two people that were ever loyal. Very much I hate all these guys but I’d rather not go all homicidal mass murderer
I was thinking more “kill Leon and only Leon”.
I want to be running this continent, not leaving it all behind.
I agree with this. And this:
I don’t see why my MC would, at this point, stick her neck out for anyone in Param save Aunt Bess, Saine, and Ilya. She wouldn’t kill them all, but I don’t think she’d walk across the street to piss on them if they were on fire and her bladder was bursting from drinking three extra large iced teas.
And if Saine and Ilya turned on her because she hates Leon? Well, fuck them, too. Just save Aunt Bess and be done with it.
It’s funny how a change in perspective can shift one’s opinion of Param and the original trio; or at least, that’s how it feels to me. If my MC blames anyone for the situation, it’s her sister. Without her actions, many of the events in the story, like the war and the presence of a thermonuclear person in the capital, would never have happened. Everything that followed has simply been a response to an already terrible situation. So, the citizens of Param aren’t really to blame for demanding her death. From their point of view, and setting aside the fact that she prevented a catastrophic explosion, she didn’t act out of a desire for gratitude, but out of a sense of duty to resolve the problem her sister had left behind and more importantly, she did it to save lives. But in doing so, she murdered the closest thing they had to a prophet, in cold blood. So technically, she is guilty of the crime she’s been accused of. It’s not that my MC wanted to die, but she understands why she has to. And she can’t bring herself to blame anyone except her sister, and herself, for not having found a better solution than murder.
That said, my MC is definitely something of a martyr… but between being burned at the stake and having been a war heroine, I can’t help but think of Jeanne d’Arc; so thar makes it worth it.
This is the fundamental reason my PC is never going to trust Arcadia, Arcadia created the factors that led to him getting cooked, no Arcadia, no Sister meddling in things she shouldn’t have, he would’ve been perfectly happy and alive. He’s pissed at Param, Yes, but he’s not going to forget the guys who started this
I can’t really blame them too much for that specifically. Like yeah they set the war in motion but we got burned because the one guy who had the authority to burn us decided to because he was really pissed at us. Meanwhile the more I hear about the Parami state, the more I think overthrowing it was a good idea on principle.
Gosh I hope B2 isn’t going to cut the original cast out, I want to get back to Saine and Ilya dammit!
On another note, the bond my mage has with those 2 is one of the few threads he’s hanging on to at this point, if those 2 turned on him that would probably be the tipping point leading into the nuclear option for him, it’d be nice if one of the revival motivation options was centered around them or something like “there are people I want to see again” or something.
from what i can see this rewrite is merely expanding on the perspective from Arcadia’s side but the overall structure of events so far seem to be the same as the older Demo
which means the next stop is Yotai.
Saine should show up there unless things changed, and depending on the changes or lack of we should also get a reaction from Leon and illya after Saine reports back
That was my favorite part of the old demo, hope it’s expanded upon a bit more. Felt like it went by so fast.
Well, I never did read the WIP before the rewrite, but I absolutely love what you have here! I really didn’t expect to be turned to the Arcadian side, and picked very skeptical options at first, but by Yotai was committed to Arcadia. Now, I’m sure they’re going to want to kill Ilya, being the Saintess and all, and if they can’t be dissuaded from that we’re going to have problems, but I’m hoping that can be avoided. Leon can die for all I care.
Speaking of Ilya, that was another surprise! I was totally sure I was going to stay faithful to her, but then you bring in the one person who could compete. It’s almost cruel, making me choose between the night sky in my arms and the first love who died for me. I don’t think I can bring myself to not choose Eli, but goddamn it’s going to be hard.
All that to say, I love it! Super well done <3
Terrorist: “Real saintly of you to save us bot.”
My mage: “You must have me mistaken with my girlfriend.” Five Point Exploding Heart Technique.
As someone who’s been following A Mage Reborn since both books were still on Dashingdon, after hearing word of its return I just wanted to drop by and thank you for continuing to work on such a fantastic game.
I’ve always had fun exploring the world of Arvanand as an overpowered magic-user with a tragic past, and while I’m someone who liked Book Two from the outset and will miss the original, even I can’t deny the uptick in quality after playing the new demo.
The Param-Arcadia conflict has more nuance, the characters have more depth, a lot of elements have been expanded upon, and being able to build a new life after dying in the last book helps makes the world feel that much more alive (and the combat system is just as fun as I remember it being). You’ve really outdone yourself with the rewrite, I must say.
Right now, I’ve finished playing the snarky, cynical Spiritist who’s absolutely done being a savior (my go-to character), and am ready to give the cheerful, flirty Enchantor who wants to see Param burn a try. It should make for a fun contrast.
I’m looking forward to when we finally catch up to where the old demo left off, along with all the new subplots, scenes and choices that will almost certainly crop up in-between. Until then though, I’m happy enough to keep replaying the current demo, just like all the other times A Mage Reborn’s updated.
Once again, thanks for giving us such a wonderful story, and I can’t wait to see what else you have planned for our favorite unlucky mage.
P.S. Given the discourse surrounding him, I hope we get the option to slug Leon in the face when we finally reunite. Imagine it: Our MC ignores the whole dramatic resurrection reveal in favor of walking over to the gobsmacked king and calmly punching his lights out in front of Ilya, Saine and the rest of Saber before anyone can get a word in. It would be hilarious.
Another thing I’m hoping for is getting some scenes of the MC thinking about Ilya, Leon and Saine during their time in Arcadia, with the one we’ve romanced/had the highest relationship score with being at the forefront. It just makes sense y’know?
Don’t even take your mask off first. Just in the middle of the big first meeting, before saying anything, waltz over and cold clock him in front of everyone, then walk back over and continue the previous conversation.
One think I hope we can do to get our revenge on Leon is in a battle where both sides are working together, valiantly jump in to help the White Fangs conveniently seconds too late to save Leon specifically from a spell that makes you undergo liquefaction in a nanosecond, and pretend it was a tragic accident.
Speaking of how we play our characters, my own character is a chipper, friendly spiritus mage with a dry sense of humor who was ready to get back to heroing as soon as he woke up, and was quite irritated that people kept telling him to rest instead of going after the rest of those human traffickers. Genuinely compassionate fellow whose idea of helping the downtrodden just happens to involve killing the people who are causing them problems.
It’s a major point of friction between him and Yu because he agrees they should afford the same courtesies to non-Arcadians that they do to Arcadians but also doesn’t feel that a light sentence for murder is something that should be afforded to anyone of any ethnicity for any reason. If a Thulrumite was going around murdering random Parami, he’d kill them too. Like, there’s no option for it but I imagine the whole “we give a second chance to Arcadians who did the same thing as these people” had like, the opposite effect of what Yu intended. “Wait we what? Yu, are we letting known murderers flee here?” Despite getting along much better with Yu, his political opinions are more in line with F.
It’s also why he decided to unleash the Fox on the knights. Like, from what we can gather, these people were probably rampaging across Param, slaughtering peasants and plundering villages before returning home to extort their own peasants, while involving themselves with what appears to be an underground hate group crime syndicate that targets Arcadians, including his best friend from childhood. You sent the one guy who has ties to literally every one of their victims (collectively) across three whole countries. It’s gonna be a bloodbath.
Doesn’t hold anything against Param proper but thinks a grand old coup is probably gonna be the best thing for them. Their king was so hotheaded and impulsive he burned his bestie at the stake with exactly zero deliberation and half the nobles are part of a conspiracy to overthrow the church establishment and put ultraconservative leaders in place and are currently engineering genocide campaigns across the country. He can only hope Saine makes for a better king.
The church bit also means Illya is in serious danger since she’s pro new doctrine and he’s kinda in love with her.
Doesn’t really trust Thalia given the whole “yeah that whole invasion was our idea” thing. Plus, a shadow dictator is not exactly his idea of a model government. Her actual STYLE of ruling is right up his alley though, at least under the current circumstances, and her intentions seem genuine. I’m writing this before I find out if she still revealed a plot to take over the whole continent or how she plans to run that empire but he’d be amicable towards a change in leadership for at least Param and Silantar. So long as we’re not planning an ethnicity-based caste system, it sounds promising.
Not sure what religion he is. Considering the similarities in structure between the two churches (like the fact that two separate religions are structured like Christianity for example, and that they both have a goddess at the head of their faith, though that one could be a coincidence on its own), I have to wonder if there’s a shared point of origin for these faiths.
