A Mage Reborn, Book Two (WIP) - UPDATED April 5th, 2025 | Book One Released!

I like “Friend RO” but “Childhood Friend” is a trope I wish would die :joy: I’ll still do Eli route because it’s not a cliche though.

That’s a lot better than nothing.

What if there are only childhood friend to RO, Friend to RO and (childhood) Enemy to RO options?!?

Lol same question, what if it’s the childhood enemy to RO?

Yeah I mean, it’s not the cliché version so I assume I could like the romance if I did it, but I naturally don’t feel compelled to do so considering it’s still a childhood friends situation.
In very rare occasions, I do like the “cliché version” of it, but well, it hardly ever happens.

In Eli’s case, it’s okay because while it’s a childhood friends situation, the two parties didn’t see each other for YEARS, so that’s a different childhood friends mechanic. But, I do tend to love romances with childhood friends that take that one step further: childhood friends who then became ennemies for reasons.

Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes in existence, so the choice is easy
Sure, I do prefer current enemy than childhood enemy, because usually the reasons for being enemies are stronger and the fights more vicious, but I like both.
It’s worth mentionning that I don’t usually like rivals to lovers. It’s a different mechanic and I only liked a few instances of that. But like I said before, I like childhood friends > enemies > lovers.
Friends to lovers is… okay? It depends on the type of friendship between the characters, really - I don’t have strong opinions because it varies too much depending on the specific characters and their chemistry.

Like Sally from MB type of friendship.

I like rivals/enemies to lovers trope as long as that rival/enemy is not an ass. Lol especially cause I have a similar situation in my life.
I like friends to lovers too.

Would you go for ex-lover to lovers again option?

Then no, too awkward.

Yes, I like that a lot!

Buuut this is getting derailed now, so let’s stop about that
It has nothing to do with the game at hand anymore!

This an amazing WIP! Going into it already knowing that the MC was going to die is very interesting, and when I finally figured out what it was leading to…that was a bit of a genuine gut punch. Very well done, the emotional impact is great and I love this a lot!

 I’m glad Eli feels like a fresh twist on the trope, at least?

I did want to evoke this novel sort of emotion–like watching a trainwreck in slow motion, knowing there’s nothing you can do to stop it. I’m glad it had the intended effect on you

In other news, Character Art for Leon is here!

Leon

Hard to believe that face could say such lines as “You will burn like the traitor you are” and “I’ll chop your head off myself”, but that only means the boy’s got range, no?

Artwork done by the brilliant Khutilust, who you can commission here! Ilya is up next

You’re going with Leon romance, right?!?
This is great for Leon lovers.

Yeah. At first, when reading RO descriptions, I was set on Falco because he’d be generally my type. But then only a few lines in game about Leon sufficed to make me forget everyone else

This one’s not introduced yet though.

Oi @Parivir Leon and Ante and most debatable characters so far. Leon is so incredibly written, he’s bringing so many different emotions out of many people.

Can’t wait for MC’ interaction with Leon (and Illya, maybe Saine too) after resurrection.

Oh yeah, sure, but I very rarely do more than one playthrough in these games - as in, I perfect the one I want and I replay it a lot, but I won’t be trying other romances or anything. Like, there must be less than 5 games (both finished and WIPs) where I’d actually try more than one RO.
And consdering the amount of IF games I play, I just have to check out the ROs before playing to see if anyone attracts me, otherwise, I most likely won’t even play, since it’s one of my methods of reducing the crazy amount of games I’d start. So quite often, I literally play a game for a character, though of course I have to like the synopsis too.
And I’m pretty good at “feeling” which RO I’ll like at first glance, only with a short description. It doesn’t happen often that I have such a change of heart when seeing a different character in the game itself, and Leon did it.
So yeah, all that to say, I probably won’t be able to play with a different RO anymore

Yeah, can’t wait for that either!

That’s called “gap moe” isn’t it? :upside_down_face:

Not exactly?
Sure, gap moe is when there’s a difference between how a character looks or what they symbolize or are, and how they act. But it’s like, the first impression should be the more negative one, or prejudiced or something, and then you discover they act very cute or have a very cute or unexpected side to them, and discovering that makes them endearing.
So him looking cute but then acting horrible isn’t exactly that
