For those of you who enjoyed the first chapter, I am still beavering away and have completed chapter 2 as planned. Your great ideas made for quite a complex piece of work! This has led to some necessary changes but hopefully it still makes for a good read.
Please find an updated link which now includes chapter 2 in the original post.
Please give it a read through and provide any comments that you think would useful as they have been really helpful so far and very enjoyable to read!
I’ll need to look into it as I would love to add in real players (I have one walking around the academy when you first go in chapter 3), but I suspect the names will be trademarked or something
I know in book one the other RO’s aren’t super important but might I recommend making character sheets for them anyway? Trust me some people plan the kind of character they play as based on which character they want to romance.
So, at the start of the kids cup final in chapter 1, your favourite position is your initial position set. This will potentially cause the senior coaches to try and change your position if your stats fit another position better. Start options are centre midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger, and striker. And when they offer this position change it will also include wing back.
You will also beside this generate a playing style that is based on your character, you keep making fame/star choices you are more likely to be certain types of player for instance
They are much more important now even if the romance for the new options don’t kick into gear fully!
These are my full ideas for the new romance options (it was originally in my post but my new post itself was over 1700 words… oops )
Please tell me what you think!
ROMANCE OPTIONS
There are now 4 romance options. Some of them will be semi locked to certain archetypes.
Ashley Hayes - the young starlet professional already in the England senior setup. Before you meet them you see this England star and think they have it all going. Then you meet and realise for all the glitz and glamour around them they’re actually very shy and sweet. They value hard work and dedication to the game. They don’t care for flashy shallow people, they value more depth in relationships. If you are a flashy star type, they will not be interested, and want to brush you off. They are naturally inclined towards the professional type, though if you play your cards right can be wooed by the pragmatist also.
Charlie Monroe - the young media starlet or influencer. Before you meet them you see the glitzy glamorous fame hungry person on social media. When you meet them you realise… that’s exactly what they are! They are naturally inclined towards the Star, the fame path. But be aware… does she like you, or is she playing the fame game hooking up to the hot new thing that could make her fame skyrocket as you get more famous too!? There could be a sting in the tale here… can be wooed by the pragmatic player but she would find the pro, all hard work and no play, type, really dull.
Taylor Gray - the young blogger. They are the antagonist RO. They just don’t like you. They run a popular blog and social media channel, and when you start to make it they make really negative articles and videos about you. Their negativity is based on whatever your archetype is, but flipped. Professional? Dull and boring, a product of a sanitised system. Pragmatist? Are those dark arts really what we want in a role model for millions of children? Star? All style no substance thinks he’s better than he is… BUT… you manage to get an interview with them. A chance to show them that you’re not what they think, there’s more to you. You have to play your cards right but you can make her into a friend, or more. They are the only RO (other than M) who is available to all players, but they don’t come easy!
And I think I caught something about choosing how they appear? I wasn’t planning that but actually I think that would be a good idea and would make them feel just as important as M! Is this something you think would benefit them? (I think it would I have been put off potential ROs in other books just based on their descriptions as they aren’t my type)
So a large part of this game will be third party perspectives. I really want this to feel like a real world and a large part of being a football star I think is you’re a part of so many people’s worlds.
There will be fairly frequent media perspectives, frequency based on your fame level.
Imagine being talked about in an after match discussion between Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.
You will be able to do things like watch match of the day, or highlights, read comment threads where people mention your game and talk about you etc to really immerse you in the world.
There will be moments like I’ve written one out of sequence, for the finale match (cup final or play off final), where you see half the match from the perspective of a dad and daughter watching the game at home, they talk about you and the team, nerves and excitement that they may finally get to do it. If you do something good or score etc, it will cut to them, and similarly if you do something bad. I want it to really feel you’re in this world and that your decisions have real consequences on real people who live and breath football etc!
It will be really immersive cause to me that’s what it’s all about, when I’m reading these I want to be in that world fully.
I’m happy to code it I don’t really care how hard something is, I wanna make something really great here or at least the very best I can do, it’s the way I am, even if only 5 people ever seen it
I liked the second chapter. My natural inclination was to plunk my marker down on the fringe Premier league team simply because playing time without going down to the minors seems like a reasonable compromise. As a Canadian I’m now wondering how many premier league teams does London have because the answer appears to be “ alot”.
