[WIP] The Butcher’s Son

Leaving aside the possible bugs that the demo has, I would like to ask a few questions. Is there magic in this world? I’m not sure, and if so, will it be possible for our character to learn how to use it? Is there more than one type of magic in this world? Also, about gathering our group to create our own guild, will you decide how to manage and lead it? Will the recruitable characters always join you by default or will they be optional? Will there be some cases where you have to do certain things to recruit some? Another thing, have you considered maybe expanding the options for the protagonist’s land of origin a bit? For example, maybe include a background where the MC comes from Strasia, Valcazar, or maybe Sanguine Point? Does it really matter where the MC was from? Would it make any difference to the narrative besides just changing some initial stats? Maybe you could add some dialogues and unique options from time to time depending on which land the MC is from?

So to explain a bit about the world: Tamoa is a separate continent from where the current game takes place, and it’s a land full of magic, terrifying creatures, and dark, intense lore. I’m honestly really excited for when we get to that part in the story because it’s going to be one of the most intense segments, if the player decides to venture there.

On Crown Isle (the main continent where the story is currently set), there’s no “open” magic, but there are religious miracles that sometimes come true, mutants like the MC who are slightly stronger and a little physically different from normal humans, there is also hidden magic within the continent, which comes from Tamoa, such as, people pretending to be human (when they are far from that) and rare hidden vampires in the north (who are not publicly known).

Thalmarken, another continent you’ll encounter much later (near the end of the story), has magic as well, plus giants. It’s an icy, brutal place, and you will eventually have the chance to venture there.

I actually have the entire world and lore written already, including how all this ties into the main story, but it’s currently huge rough drafts and big walls of text that I haven’t released yet. I plan to clean it up and make it more presentable to share soon!

For the group and companions, you’ll be able to choose whether you want to recruit characters and build your own group/guild or go through the story solo. Every major character you meet will be recruitable, but they can die or become unavailable if you miss key dialogue or events.

As for the MC’s background, the MC will always be a mutant, but the origin you choose affects where they grew up, changes stats, and opens unique dialogue or regional options when you visit those places later. I’m also planning to expand the available regions soon!

Lastly, I’m currently rewriting Chapter 1 to make it fuller and more detailed, so hopefully you’ll see more depth and smoother pacing in the next update.

Hey everyone,

First off, I want to apologize for the delay in updates. I’ve had some personal health issues recently which slowed me down, but I’m feeling much better now and back to working at full speed.

One thing that kept tripping me up was coding for the arena path where Varran can be either alive or dead. It caused a lot of headaches because I had to write and test both paths so they wouldn’t break the game. The good news is I finally figured out a clean system for it, so it shouldn’t slow me down in the future.

Recent Updates:

  • New Codex system – It’s now available, though there’s not much content yet. I’ll be adding more lore soon.

  • New companions – Kaia, Jalen, and Seray can now join your journey.

  • Chapter 1 rewritten – The pacing is slower and more atmospheric to give the story room to breathe.

  • Arena path overhaul – Varran can now die, and if he does, he’s removed from all future scenes.

Next Plans:

  • Adding romance options for the current companions.

  • Expanding the Codex with more detailed lore entries.

  • Improving character customization so your choices at the start actually affect your gameplay and story.

  • Balancing stats for a smoother and fairer progression.

  • Continuing bug fixes - If you find any, please let me know, so I can fix it asap! It helps a lot.

Thanks for catching that!
That error just means you’ve hit the current end of the game. I haven’t written past that scene yet, so the next label doesn’t exist. It’ll be there in the next update once the story continues beyond this point.
