Having bit of time yesterday, I lisened podcast to see what it is about. Want to say it was lovely… But that would sound weird given context of it… Tho time flow did seem curious in it…
Thank you very much, it means a lot! And also, wow I really hope that’s a visual bug on Patreon and that it didn’t give you 2 hours of white noise before it atarted LOL
Arthur is my love. That’s it. I love this whole team and especially playing as an awkward duck because I’m one irl but still.
Has there always been three chapters or did this get an update? Sorry its been a minute.
No problem, I would love to share. Especially if it helps you out. First off I would like to apologize in advance as I’m not sure how to create spoiler post so I’ll have to keep it vague so I don’t give much away. It’s also important to note that I played through the game in this order Lance, Ryder, Hawks, then Alvarez so my opinion might be a little biased.
First off I would say Lance and Ryder’s after funeral scenes came off more intense than the others did both emotionally and physically. I would like to say that the others were intense just not to the same degree in my eyes.
Second I really enjoyed how different Alvarez’s scenes are so different from the others. I think it shows her age difference well. For instance her after funeral seane was focused the least on the present and more on her past.
Third I love the subtle betrayal of Hawks power reacting on there emotions faster than they can stop the action with thought at the end of her after funeral seane.
Last thing I’ll say is I really think you do well with giving the player the ability to react as they wish. Weather it be between sorrow, and anger; or extreme and little emotions.
Select the text you want to spoiler; then click the little geear icon at the top of the text box and choose “Blur spoiler”. Alternatively, type [.spoiler] text you want to blur [./spoiler] without the periods. Note that whichever way you do it, spoiler tags sometimes don’t work for… reasons, so you have to put in paragraph breaks between them and the text, like so:
[.spoiler]
text
[./spoiler]
Cool thanks
Arthur/Elizabeth is the best team leader <3 So much love to them and their very very stressful job
I just recently finished chapter 3 recently, so you’re not too far behind!
Oh yeah, I was fully aware that S. Ryder’s scene was absolutely going to be the most heartbreaking. I think I’ll actually talk about this in a podcast episode at some point and address specific tones of scenes, and how different characters will end up having scenes that are more emotionally charged than others, as I think it might be something people would be interested in hearing about.
If people want to know who the true “slow burn” of the series is going to be; I’m pretty positive it’s going to be Alvarez.
Thank you for the more in depth talk about it though, it is much appreciated!
The first Patreon Extra story is OUT!
Hey all, I know I’ve been putting up a lot of patreon announcements, but that’s only because it has just released and I’m getting milestones done for it. I want to say, this in no way means I’m not working on the main story, because I definitely am. I’m working on these things essentially simultaneously.
So, that being said, the first extra story is out! This one takes place in a universe where Kate survived the mission, and is now going to interrogate Marcus Jareau herself. The question remains; who was his last victim?
The story is 4500 words long, so it’s a good bit of extra content (hence why these stories are in the $20 tier, because they are quite bulky). I love making content for this book, whether it be writing the book itself or making the content for the patreon, so thank you all for reading regardless! Also, I’ll be putting up a picture of the sketch phase of Harper’s character portrait just so that people can get an initial idea of the kind of quality they’ll be getting from the art if they do choose to subscribe to the Patreon. That will be in a spoiler tag in the description on the top of this forum page!
I just finished the story, for just 3 chapters its pretty damn good, maybe a bit slow on the story and character interaction part but it was pretty emotional, I felt pretty sad.
I am puzzled on why the traumatic events that happened didn’t involve the MC but the team instead, strange choice imo. If it was the MC + team it would have been more I’d say for eg “our best friend died” vs “your best friend died im sorry”
But aside from that keep up the great work, love the story. Also is this game romance based like Wayhaven or story based like Fallen Hero?
Glad you like the story so far!
That is a very valid question. The best answer is that there’s a big tonal difference between the two. Coming into a book where you’ve lost a friend and teammate right off the bat would be rough, and a lot of people would (rightfully so) want plenty of ways to express their grief in the situation and focus on healing themselves (as someone should). But it also has you make that decision of how you deal with that grief very directly, very early on in the book before you have a chance to solidify who you’re character is, and I didn’t wanna throw people into the deep end like that. For me, it’s about a journey of viewing the different forms that grief can take, and I think helping to be a rock for a broken team where each member is displaying those different forms of grief is a perfect mold for that. But honestly great question!
As for the second question, I view it as romance focused, but I admit the story is slow at the moment. I really wanted to have the player get to know these characters by the end of book one, because like Wayhaven, there is going to be a point where you choose a romance option (if any). BUT the next few updates for the foreseeable future are ALL going to be story-centric, so definitely look forward to that!
It’d also make a pretty much different game, I think? Newcomer vs. established team member is a huge difference even without trauma.
Thanks for the valid info, I hadn’t thought of it like that, the MC being the rock for the team’s trauma is a unique experience that other games haven’t done. I do think that the MC having their own trauma and backstory is also important to make the game less forgettable.
Also I do love Wayhaven but its too much romance and not even story and the choice where you “pick” Wayhaven’s romance is unnatural as it alters the events dialogue a lot kinda like an “alternate multiverse” when you pick
Try to make the story as organic as possible where you can hangout and romance everyone until it becomes a decision time “who do you choose between me and her” and kinda like Fallen Hero. Also I hope you’re considering a love triangle/Poly route or even a harem route like Fallen Hero, that one was loved by everyone bahahaha
Keep up the great work Author, love your story and explanation.
Oh absolutely, I agree! I’ve planted seeds a little bit in there as well with the MC’s brother and the trauma that they still deal with from that, as, even if it doesn’t come up often in this game, it will definitely be more prominent in the future.
Thanks for the response I really like the way the emotional weight of the story is unfolding as the MC comforts the other characters, I do like the small trauma/ptsd/anxiety the MC goes through as a result of their upbringing with their druggie brother. Hope this gets explored further where maybe the other characters comfort the MC one day.
I am also a bit sad that when hanging with Kristina and she mentions her “hobbies” Cyberpunk or Shadowrun isn’t one of the options, nooooo I wanna talk about Johnny Silverhand with her lol
This game does feel like Wayhaven for some reason, another game it reminds me of is When Twilight Strikes on Itch.
Also if you don’t mind me asking how many chapters/word count is this expected to be and will there be series or is it stand alone
The first book will most likely be over 1 million words long in total, and I am planning for their to be 3 IF books and a side-story horror book/IF (not sure which one yet) called C21H23NO5: The Fears of Leslie Thoughton.
So definitely much more to come!
I like your writing, but I am going to have to specifically request for THIS work, in particular, to NOT be pumped directly into my veins. Or indirectly.
Hahaha facts, well I like the prospect of having a story where the character gets addicted to something and uses it to cope, that was only explored slightly in FH2 and most games never explore “adult” stuff like that.
The Bureau’s themes are certainly fresh and interesting though as someone who deals with slight addiction to alcohol and tobacco I can say I can relate
This sounds very interesting, the concept has me intrigued for sure but Im not sure about getting into WIP. I waded a little bit into the links but couldnt really find any info on how the plans for updating and/or full release go with this, is there any?
Is it a fulfilling read as it (in terms of cliffhangers etc., not questioning the quality), or is it better to just wait? I am an anxious waiter :X
Thanks for info.
The Bureau is pretty good my G, I do feel its a bit short and doesn’t have a lot of story yet but think of it as a more serious and emotional version of Wayhaven, no spoilers tho but its gonna make you feel more a bit.
Think 80% Wayhaven with 20% Fallen Hero, kinda nice actually. I say read the WIP. I will say that unfortunately similar to Wayhaven you have to replay the game 4 times to talk to all the characters one by one but the writing and dialogue is superb so its worth it.
If you’ve played Fallen Hero think about it like this, you are playing Ortega and your ROs are all mini Sidesteps BAHAHAHAHA
Overall I’d rate it 9/10 so far, love it also sadly a lot of people in law enforcement and the military deals with similar issues to the serious subject matter so it is a more serious game unlike most.
