Thats a huge shame, I was truly hoping to buy the game when it eventually releases, but I cant financially support a game that gives up all forms of LGBT representation, even for understandable legal concerns.
Such a shame it ends like this.

Like, ain’t hard. Make a separate submenu, make it a few pages deep so no official could be arsed to check, set a variable for gay, turn it off or on. Ready, set, go.

I would argue that the author’s situation is somewhat different, when the game is published, there will be money coming in, when that happens, and a government official sees the income, if they decide to look where it came from and find a book with LGBT romances, maybe there would be problems.

Manga shops still sell yaoi, they just moved it elsewhere, gay books are still there. The law is shit, no doubts about it, but as the saying goes, strictness of law is mitigated by the lack of necessity to follow it.

Everyone is going to have a different risk tolerance when it comes to potential legal persecution. Niki is a male living in Russia so needless to say, the dangers of him being arrested right now are extremely severe at this point in time. Its simply not worth the risk as unfortunate as it is. The community will hopefully have its own mods because obviously the circumstances suck. But I don’t think its fair to downplay how severe the consequences could be for Niki even if the chances of POMA being reported are low.

That’s why I offer a solution that fully relies on laziness of the people that are supposed to ensure this law comes through. Make a well-hidden submenu that adds such things in, pass it through wink-wink, nudge-nudge fashion, live happily. We did it in Russian Empire and USSR, we do it now, it is a solution that pleases both sides.

Low risk doesn’t mean no risk. Why should the author take on such risk when the reader could just easily mod the game and change the ROs genders? Everyone’s happy and no one has to face any risks.
