Wu Dong is the mc cousin.
Err, shouldn’t this be 0.26? The previous release was also 0.25 xD
Also, looking at the game script, there’re some nice mechanics tweaks
- Wu Chao (or He clan) now sends you a stipend on each free roam.
- selling out to He clan now gives you better item prices in shop (50% discount, doesn’t stack with haggling talent)
buying perks increases respective Dao level, for each 2.5k exp spent. Means you should now be able to use more than one dao skill type in fights.- you don’t get your initial Dao levels. You can upgrade your dao level in picked specialization (and only in that specialization) by spending 2.5k exp * current level. You have to spend at least 2.5k exp if you want to acquire the upgrades which were previously free.
- damage resistance bonus from crit success nerfed to 50% max. This is gonna make things quite harder :v
- some bug fixes – like, no more 80% resistance from tier 3 talent /s
- Tiger Heart tattoo slightly buffed: health cap is now 7k and it takes 15 cap instead of 20
- dao cucumber gives between 0-2.5 dao levels instead of guaranteed +1 (it gives 5k dao exp, which can be enough for get +2.5 levels for path which had no levels before, +1 level for path at level 1, or 0.5 level (or less) if that path is at level 2+
Guess it means i’ll be replaying from pretty much the start again x.x
edit: the Wu stipend introduced a minor continuity error. Currently it triggers as soon as you end the first roam after you get in the sect. And afterwards you receive “son/daughter, congratulations” letter which is supposedly the only thing you’ve heard from your father.
So, it might be better to hold off with the stiped until date > 6
so you get the lukewarm congratulations first, and only after that even the money start trickling in.
Stuck between picking Chu as a master and the old man AKA Monkey God. What are the benefits of each and the cons of each? Void arts just seem dope
Loved this update. Hilarious and engaging. We get to mow through several disciples and flex a lot, just as I wanted! Man it was just so much fun. Demon path was monstrous and virtuous path is so chaotic. Anyway, a couple possible problems.
He doesn’t get to teleport/run away if you just attack, no exp for me?

Shadow dude doesn’t give exp either in the route you beat Mogui.
This girl still appears after you defeat Mogui. This is still the case even if you choose to ally with the dude and still fight Mogui. She uses the token for the second time.

Other than that, I only noticed a Ruo gender issue.
Hmm, there’s one more change in the mechanics, which has a bit of unforeseen consequences – previously, after the time skip the skills you have trained would give you 1 point in respective dao paths.
In this version, these skills no longer do it. This makes them largely a waste of xp, but it also means that in the first fight at the arena the player is very likely to have nearly all of their dao skills inaccessible, because they require 2+ in respective dao path, which are at this point not possible to attain, because “comprehending dao” functionality is yet locked. Even the skills which needs dao level of 1+ will only be available to the player who picked respective dao specialization, because others will have that skill at 0 and will be blocked from upgrading it at this stage.
This… doesn’t create a great impression, for your first fight as unparalleled dao master. And suddenly not understanding anything about dao other than the one you’ve picked, without spending at least 2.5k exp on it, is neither appealing nor doesn’t make much sense, either.
tl;dr: Make Basic Skills Great Again, have them contribute to initial dao levels like they did before ._.
edit: on second check, the issue is actually even worse. Because the player doesn’t now get the starting levels in dao, but the checks used for options which raise their dao skills in the story remain unchanged, you can’t get your old dao upgrades without sinking 2.5k exp to get the “missing” dao level.
For example, the option
*selectable_if (dao_space >= 2) #Utilize your Void Dao.
to pursue the Wu city rebels (and upgrade your space dao in the process) requires Level 2 in space dao, just like before. Except the player who didn’t spend extra 2.5k exp on this dao will have it now at level 1, not 2. Because they no longer get the starting level due to basic skills, just one from picking void as specialization.
To make it even funnier, with the new cost mechanics the old upgrades won’t even work. E.g. in this discussed case the option to utilize Void Dao previously granted you a +1 to space dao level. Now it will grant you 2.5k space dao exp… but at existing level 2 (needed to take the option) it costs 5k space dao exp to raise level to 3. So what you get is just half of exp towards actual upgrade.
The same goes with the cucumber – previously, it’d give you +1 dao level. Now, if you apply it to path which is at lvl.3 you’ll only get part of exp towards the upgrade (5k instead of 7.5k needed)
edit2: wait, i didn’t even realize because i didn’t get to this point in the game… you can only upgrade skills in your “specialized” dao by spending exp, not all three branches? After all the talk how limiting the player to only one branch sucks and how the game would be better making it easier to use all three, this is just… wow.
Damn… So we need more exp to Level it up ?
Mortal Diff gonna be hard
From now on I’m playing on either story mode or heavenly talent on all of my playthroughs lol
Ain’t no way i’m playing on mortal mode anymore
Looks like there’s a bug with Tiger Tattoo:
*if (chosen_tattoo = "heart_tiger")
*set health_total 6000
It is supposed to now cap health at 7k, but the game script still cuts it down to 6k.
edit: and another bug, but this one much funnier:
*selectable_if (dao[dao_path] < 5) #Spend EXP.
How much EXP do you want to spend?
*temp spending_exp 0
*input_number spending_exp 0 exp
*gosub_scene sbr upgrade_dao dao_path spending_exp
*goto comprehending_dao
The fun part is, this function doesn’t actually deduct the EXP you’re “spending”. :v
I wonder if our inheritance will ever come up in the future. I was expecting He Gang to have it (since they have a large chunk of Wu territory), but he has qi now so he doesn’t need it to be relevant.
It could be Wu Dong. (Who Dong?) This would certainly elevate the cousins from nobodies to somebodies.
Maybe I’m just overthinking it and it’ll never be mentioned again.
The fact that you said “anymore” kills me
It just occurred to me that 3 people were allowed to pass the first stage. Does this mean they were going to be team members for the group stage or will that be randomized? I killed everyone in my bracket, I might be cooked.
Anyway, now that our numbers are thinned I hope the elders won’t be stingy with their money and hire us some announcers, kengan style. I want that “The last, last hope of the Wu VS The Celestial Heir” title drop!
I had some shame self-restraint and only took 20k from them overall, but together with a 10k from earlier bet with another sucker, that’s still a nice haul.
Wait, you’re totally right. I can cash out even harder. Thanks fsix!
Nothing I love more than being a totally virtuous dude and then extorting people at every possible moment
OOh, and 15k from the tiny lion dude. This tournament keeps getting better.
My precious son is being powercrept
Speaking of Mogui, any chance we get a choice to tell the other two to stay away before our fight? I never intended to parley with him, so it felt odd that they were comfortable just walking up to him. I felt really guilty when they both got owned instantly Maybe something like:
“Brother Wu, that’s Liu Mogui right there in the clearing! What should we do?”
choice1:“He doesn’t seem hostile yet, let’s talk to him.”
choice2:“You two get away from here. This will take some effort.”
I mean, I’m fine with them getting killed by someone else while I’m busy fighting, but it just feels like I intentionally screwed them over here.
Speaking of being screwed over, I’d appreciate instant death choices being a bit more obvious. When we have damage negating skills and have survived our chest exploding before, it gets hard to tell what is lethal.
Let’s use a recent example.
It says “let it hit you” not “Die” or “Death” or anything like that.
Maybe adding something like “Your chances of survival are slim.” “Getting hit by this would be your end.” to these moments would be good?
It’s not a big deal since we have saves, just a slight annoyance I felt I should mention.
Also I imagine this scene is for when you have a partner and they get angry at you. It still shows up when you’re alone. I’m not the only one seeing “but you pay it no heed” am I?
