Thank you everyone for all of your words! Glad to be seeing some love for Icarus, as this chapter was a bit of a focus on them. August, El, and T will get their own spotlight in later chapters.
Potential spoilers beneath
Thank you! I’m going to be playing fast-and-loose with anatomy in how it is incorporated into the ploy\t most likely, but hey- it’s a cosmic entity.
…And He gives back unto us…
There will probably be moments where taking it off is necessary, but I’ll try to give the chance whenever possible!
I love those too! And the Order might never be fully the same, but yes, it will still play a part in the later parts of the story.
No large update this month, sorry. However, to celebrate 500 followers on Tumblr, I wrote and added a few tiny side stories. Currently accessible via the dashingdon demo if you choose to skip to ‘interlude’.
Update!
Chapter 3 has finally been finished, with ~30k words of content which, along with other small changes throughout the past chapters, brings our word count to ~81k. It ups the average playthrough length to ~30k as well, meaning this is the largest update yet.
Be aware that this update will break saves. A few variables added to previous chapters, discovering the convenience of multireplace, and an entirely new statistic means that I fully recommend a replay.
Including...
Dispose of the bodies in one way or another, depending on previous choices. Both with their own knowledge and consequences.
What are your feelings on August? Or Jasper? Decide that.
Consider the state of the Commune.
Hear Icarus’s new decree.
On the more technical side of things - you can now build an entirely new personality stat, sardonic/sincere. The ‘dynamic’ history screen was all sorts of messed up, so hopefully fixed that. Made it easier to achieve the ‘sea’ disposal path, so it doesn’t entirely rely on your charisma stat anymore.
How the heck did I only hear of this WIP now??? This is brilliant! Definitely putting this on my watch list!
Honestly, Mystery Flesh Pit National Park is one of the more creative concepts that I’ve seen out of the famous analog horror stories, slightly just behind Monument Mythos. So anything that takes the “humans living inside an eldritch creature monster thing” concept is an instant win in my book.
As for typos, only found some uncapitalized names and missing apostrophes…which I forgot to screenshot lol. I did find this code thing in T’s interlude scene…which I did screenshot this time. Otherwise, not much to report on typos and grammar.
Thanks for the kind words! Glad to see that it’s compelling.
Same. Couldn’t find much like it, so I decided to give it a try myself
Thank you for the typo watch. I guess my ‘expert’ coding did not entirely work out.
I adapted the name from the ‘cyte’, meaning cell, so I’d say with with a soft C and a silent E, like ‘sy-oat’. If you like ‘kai-yo-oat’ then do as you want then
Just wanted to say that you’ve truly managed to bring your characters to life. Kudos!
The concept is so good and I hope we will be able to read more future projects too!
I gave myself a few days to finish up bug-checking and the whole statistic-edits, but I finished before projected. If this ends in there being a lot of missed bugs, then my dearest apologies, but I’ve just been so eager to share this update with you guys.
Chapter Four is roughly 85.6k words without code, more than doubling the size of the demo. The total wordcount(with code) of the demo is now ~175k words. Without code, it’s ~160k, with an average playthrough of 48k words.
I have no definitive information on whether this will break saves - my guess is not completely, but the best experience would be a complete re-playthrough. More information on its contents below! I hope so much that all of you enjoy!
Prepare for the journey by traveling to either the farms or Jasper’s ship.
Decide more about your past and previous relationships. Learn more about others’ history as well.
Spend some quality time with someone of your choice.
Customize your hair color(finally!)
On the more technical side of things, personality stats and relationships both should be able to be pushed higher now. Added more variations of description lines in the ‘relationships’ tab, depending on if you’re flirting or not. A few more custom preference options. Changed up a few names in the ‘name select’ section because I felt they did not fit with the setting.
I’ve also been fiddling around with numbers and stuff - they’re not my strong suit when it comes to writing, especially realistic ones. For example, Dos now has 80,000 people instead of 30,000. If you see a number that’s not what you remember, it might still be a typo, but it’s also likely that it’s one of those things that I’ve changed.
A small update to the demo - I’ve posted the the RO povs for 1k followers. The interlude as a whole is around 3.8k words, and I haven’t bothered to run randomtest to find the average playthrough, but I’d estimate ~3-500 per. The last interlude I posted, you were able to jump straight to it from the opening page, but this one is attached to Chapter Four, because some of it jumps off whoever you spent your free time with in that chapter, as well as some other flavor text.
With this comes the fixing of a few of the coding/writing issues that I’ve been informed of. Thank you to people who send those in - I’m always glad to see them.
Unrelated to Parasitical, I’ve been obsessively working on another choicescript game that grabbed me by the throat and hasn’t let go. By ‘obsessively’, I mean ~18k words in three days obsessively, which is quite unusual for me. Still unsure if I’ll be sharing it online, at least for the foreseeable future, but maybe keep your eyes peeled. Thank you all for reading!
WOW!! I am blown away. I loved this demo so much. The plot is gripping, you have a fantastic writing style, and this game is filled with unique, interesting characters. I can’t wait to continue romancing August and hopefully Tallis! The world you built feels truly alive, just as His flesh is our sustenance.
