[WIP] Chains of Destiny: Book One (~827k words) - Last update: 2026/05/31

Like official route, gotcha. I meant more like playthroughs where I was choosing different options and got different results. Does that route have to do with arriving somewhere not too early but not too late?

Oh, yes, it’s in that route. As you’re talking with the elder a soldier will interrupt with a message about the sighting of an enemy force. After that you’ll be able to choose what course to take (and that’s where the option to duel the commander will pop up).

When talking to Lucius and Archibald during our birthday celebration in ch2, they asked us what we wanted to be. So my question is, does the story path change say if we chose either the academy, soldier, or politician?

No it doesn’t, it was just a question that mc replies to, with us still ending up being in a war with no deviation from each other but possible guesses or outcomes surrounding mc that might be related to those question but still yet to come, we gonna wait my pal, the story is still early

For now, it only adds some flavor text, but later on, when your MC has more freedom to pursue their own interests, this choice will have a bigger impact, of course.

I have a few questions, and I apologize in advance if they have already been answered.

  1. Who are our enemies?

What do they want? What is the reason for the war?

  1. How did our family survive? We lost a lot during the time of our grandfather’s alleged betrayal.

I’m actually asking where our money comes from.

Well from the character description, after the grandfather betrayal, the mc’s dad was luckly saved by his childhood friend, mc’s uncle from the vicious jaw of politics, who suggested that there both enter war and earn merits to gain power in politics so that there never be weakened again, it was not said like these but you get the point and during the war, mc’s dad and mc’s mom the sister to the childhood friend whom at time was a medic in the war if I recall and there got married and marriage between nobles can pretty much strengthen them politically and with prestige but this one wasn’t for that side of marriage but love and how there get there money from, well if I have to guess from proper management of there household, investments, connections and old money inheritance, and now as for who is mc’s enemy, take this

@Elemental is largely correct. The only things I’d add:

  1. Lucius comes from the wealthy merchant family that financed the entire rebellion from which the Republic was later born. After the rebellion, they remained a highly respected and influential family, and they were granted large amounts of land and estates in recognition of their role in its success, which they leveraged to amass even more wealth and power over the years.

  2. Lucius was always an avid student of law, so when Marcus lost nearly everything, he went against his own father’s wishes to help his friend fight back. Through a series of legal battles, he managed to recover whatever could be salvaged of House Serin’s wealth (enough for them to retain their summer villa and a few estates). The vast majority was still gone, including their main estate in the capital, but it was something… After Marcus and Amelia married, having her talent for management and diplomacy in the mix made a real difference, and so through the combined efforts of Marcus, Amelia, and Lucius, House Serin was slowly stabilized. It is diminished compared to its glory days, but it remains a relatively wealthy House.

  3. As for the war… General Leona will actually get into all of that in Chapter 3, if you ask her +you’ll have plenty of chances to learn about the enemies over the course of the story (both internal and external).

Just a question. Is Nemio the Knight of War from the cards that lets us see our future? If I remember correctly, there was a voice talking to Nemio when he was fighting the dude that killed Juna. And the grand mage said that The Knight of War is the vessel of Karas (The voice) and is closer than one might think.

I trust you guys to connect the dots without my help (besides, there will be more clues later on), but you’re on the right track.

Last question. How do you defeat The commander in a duel. Also what’s the name of the variation for fighting when I want to cheat stats using Kiwi Browser. Thank you.

To win the duel you need either 8 strength or finesse and 5 fighting skill (it’ll be reworked later)… or you can just enable cheat mode (which actually has a special duel scene).

I haven’t personally used kiwi browser (I still just go the google inspect element route if I want to cheat in IFs), but the variable you’re looking for is weapon_skills in the code (if you want, you can just enable cheat mode, which gives you max stats and sometimes special cheat mode scenes). Hope that helps!

Still one of my faves, nice progress! I’m loving my MC in the new tribune arc. It is more appropriately faster-paced action wise (at least it feels like things are really starting to happen) and the new characters are great. Was sad to see the Barnabas party interactions still incomplete but the other added content flowed smoothly and the narrative is feeling pretty polished except that one missing interaction.

My only nitpick is the naming of some of the army cast. It’s probably more a me thing but I’ll be honest between Gaius, Gnaeus and Caius, I often had no idea who was who because the names are so similar I just couldn’t set them in my brain well enough to differentiate between these three. Maybe a Marcus or Octavian thrown in the mix? Not a big deal but it was slightly jarring for me.

Very well done so far, can’t wait to see what the council has in store next for my poor MC that just wanted to go to the academy and learn magic lol.

Watching our sister go for the garum and cheese while eating nearly made me gag considering garum is basically fermented fish sauce - you put a bunch of fish scraps in a vessel, add salt, and then let it ferment under the Sun for a few months until it becomes liquid-y. That does NOT sound appetizing with cheese.

(I first learned about garum while watching “Tasting History with Max Miller” on YT).

Also, I’ve seen a lot of Roman references through the game, from the way characters dress to the names and even the food (like garum). Is this supposed to be some sort of fantasy-roman setting, or just heavily inspired by it?

Hey, I’m glad you enjoyed the new parts! (don’t worry, I’ll finish all of Barnabas’s scenes before I start writing chapter 4)

Yeah… even I confused Caius and Cassius a couple times, so I’ll try to be more mindful of naming characters next time.

I’m sorry for that.

I’d say the Republic (and it’s culture) is heavily inspired by Rome, yes.

There’s special cheat scenes?!?! Might need to replay this.

Well, there’s only a couple for now, but there will be more in the future.
