[WIP] Chains of Destiny: Book One (~827k words) - Last update: 2026/05/31

Thank you for letting me know! I think it’s the same issue as with the personality values, so I’ve gone ahead and increased the numbers a bit. I’ll check in the morning to see if they’re high enough now or if they still need some tweaking. Also, seriously, thank you for replaying it so much, that really means a lot to me as an author!

Of course! It was like a 5 minute ordeal on my end, so it was no trouble at all. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hey! I’ve fixed and uploaded the first problem, thanks for pointing it out!

As for the second one, I actually addressed it earlier:

Now, the third one’s a bit strange… are you sure you never got the Zenon scene in Part 1? I double-checked the code, and it’s gated by a variable that only gets set if you choose the “” option during Zenon’s scene in Part 1. I’ll look over it again just to be sure, but that’s what I’m seeing so far.

O this book makes me cry every time. Its the only story that does that for me. Its made me a masochist, cuz I keep reading!

Hey! Yeah, I’ll get that done later today, it should be pretty easy to add.

Okay, you got me. I think only one other story (Keeper 3) has genuinely made me cry before. Well done. I love that you have options to keep the pain fresh, and I love that the choices are flexible enough that I can have a charismatic MC who is absolutely loyal to and cares deeply about her friends, while being ruthless and nigh-sadistic to her enemies. It’s a mix I feel works very well considering events, and I’m glad I can do it.

Well done on making me cry. Can’t wait for more <3

I didnt go too far yet but do we get choices of not being okay with whats decided for us? I really despise fighting and bloodshed. I feel like my MC also would be shellshocked after what happend and doesnt even wanna be close to weapons.

That honestly means a lot, thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I still need to get around to playing the rest of the keeper games myself. I only finished the first one, but everyone keeps saying how amazing 2 and 3 are.

While it’s not new, there is a choice around the start of Chapter 2 part 2, where you can choose how your MC feels about the appointment. And after the Julia scene, if you choose one of the three known ROs or the MC’s mother’s scene, there’s a chance to talk to them about it more personally.

In Chapter 3, I also plan to include a choice where the MC can choose how they feel about their role now that they’re actively in it, including how they feel about the idea of taking lives or having to order others to kill.

Thanks. That sounds lovely!

WOW this is so well written. i haven’t gotten that far i think but it’s probably the only wip that’s ever made me feel so attached to a character and their emotions so much. the scene in the forest when like half the people you know and trust are just brutally killed and/or basically tortured right in front of you was agonizing in the best way ever. geniunely you write the mc and their emotions so well, the nemio rejection scene is one of the only scenes i’ve ever felt compelled to read every option for. the regret in having spoken your feelings out loud, the unwanted but necessary acceptance, the pure delusional rejection to nemio rejecting you. all of them are written so well. and seeing mc continue their delusion after the fact was just a little cherry on top, it kinda makes me want to see it addressed more afterwards but i dont know how that would work from a writers perspective. also the childhood bedroom scene after finding out you’re going off to war. all of the choices for who to be with after finding out are the BEST though! the whole thing is amazing honestly.

the characters are so well written too, i doubt i’m the first or last, but i looooove nemio and his distant protective self even if he kinda wants nothing to do with us.sucks for me he’s not an ro but oh well, zenon is ADORABLE, the library scene was soooo cute and trying to convince nemio it was nothing was so cute. so excited to finish reading it and seeing the rest in the future!!

Thank you for the feedback, I’m glad you enjoyed playing it! This is my first more serious writing project, so it’s been a huge (and very enjoyable) learning experience for me so far. Also, idk how others do this, but most of the choices (and emotional moments) were written pretty instinctively , just following what felt right in the moment rather than any kind of detailed plan, so I’m always open to thoughts on how I can improve or what you’d like to see more of.

I’ve enjoyed the game so far, but I can’t help feel a little frustrated at times when it comes to the MC’s personality. Or rather the lack of impact our choices seem to have on it? I can choose every wet cat option I’m presented in the options, and that’ll be represented in that segment. But as soon as we turn the page and get to a choiceless narrative segment, it’s like the MC’s personality is different. Fight cause pride demands it and definitely over what happened to them, etc, that kind of feeling. But um, no? Like my MC, based on the choices I made, is a traumatized child definitely not over it, who cries at the drop of a hat and freezes when faced with aggression. It’s like those choices don’t matter, and the MC ends up feeling like two different people.

Bit of a combo in saying this, too, but that inconsistency isn’t just in the flavor of the static scenes for personality. It’s a small issue in scenes that should probably relate to the players’ stat distribution (or lack thereof.)

When the MC is being developed by the player to have no boosts at all in strength, or martial prowess with combat, they most definitely should not be able to catch a sword out of the air tossed to them by their father, nor even be able to wield it effectively enough to actually spar well with him. Not if the man wasn’t holding back, like the scene implies. It’s not possible if the stats were meant to actually matter there, though they should, if only to make it make more sense to the reader. Truth be told, that entire sparring segment should have just made their father more worried, and shouldn’t have reassured him that his child was capable as a soldier-to-be. My MC should have passed out just from that nonsense with Nemio in the bit right beforehand, to say nothing more of immediately after–with no breaks–proceeding to spar with his father too well to be tailored to my MC’s actual stats.

I agree with the last few posts. My MC is a traumatized wet cat. She cant fight and is constantly scared. I know writing is hard but I would really like if it was shown how bad my MC is at fighting and almost everything else too cause well she is traumatized as fuck. I feel like MC got over it a bit fast. It would be interrsting if the game would split into a capable MC and a traumatized one.

Thank you both for the feedback! Looking back, Chapter 2 had so much going on that some of those finer details like this probably slipped past me. I’ll definitely go over those parts again for the next update and tweak things so the MC’s reactions, inner thoughts, etc. better reflect the choices the player made.

There is always room for improvement, so if in the future you notice anything that feels off or something that feels lacking, please let me know because feedback like this really helps me to know which parts to improve.

There are already parts of the game that kind of split the MC into two paths: one who is trying to heal and move forward and another who is still very much trapped by their trauma. This depends on how severe the incident was for the MC, and it’s tracked by a hidden stat you gain in Chapter 1, part 2. If you get enough points in that stat, you get the variations where the MC is still trapped by their trauma.

Still, the threshold for that stat might be set a bit too high right now, so I’ll tweak it a little. I’ll also try to add this split into more scenes in Chapter 2 and keep it a major focus when writing Chapter 3. Thank you for the feedback!
