I do wonder where putting the X instead of the C came from.
Wondered this too but saw someone explain recently - cause Choice of Romance and Choice of Robots! Plus the Greek-influenced language in Choice of Rebels includes some words starting with X that are pronounced as Ch - thus, XoR
Couldn’t they just say CORU?
Yeah, have been wondering bout that for awhile.
Me too for ages!
It started as a typo that read like a good joke on a game which in a couple of prominent places uses the Greek chi (X) instead of the English “ch”.
It also helpfully distinguishes Rebels from Robots and Romance.
Quoted from Havenstone’s post on XoR Part 1 Thread
(Sorry forgot to actually quote it and copied it instead and now I’m too clumsy to quote it )
My god. I have been pronouncing Xaos and Xthonos wrong this entire time. It makes so much more sense now.
I’m surprised that the correct pronunciations weren’t (as best as I can recall) mentioned in the game, like in the glossary alongside its definition.
Thanks guys! (20 char long)
@Havenstone chose XoR because that was the popular choice in his WiP thread here for six years. He really appreciated everyone that helped him test his game and wanted to do whatever they chose.
That said, it might be easier to differentiate future games if at some point we make the switch to talking about CORU, CORS, CORO, CORD, and CORH.
Or XORU, XORS, etc., I suppose.
It’ll be a generational thing. New members of the community will adopt CORU while the old farts of the community will use it like a badge of courage defying anyone not to call it XOR …
Whatever it is it needs to start with an X.
COG staff refer to it as Rebels FWIW.
FWIW?

For what it’s worth!
Ah I misread it, I thought she was saying they called it “Rebels FWIW” not “Rebels” FWIW
I might be a little late in saying this but I know I will forever be getting the acronyms mixed up if this becomes a thing. Hopefully each gets their own “mistake” which forms into a unique nickname for them all.
Here is the link.
Definitely .
I personally would suggest XOR1, XOR2, and so on… There is already no shortage of games that could be abbreviated starting with COR and it is not inconceivable that some future completely unrelated game could be called “Rebels” or include that word prominently in the title. How many games are amazing enough to have an abbreviation starting with X and have approximately 8000 posts in their WIP thread for background?
Shrug. Behind the scenes Choice of titled games are usually shortened to “Robots,” “Rebels,” “Cat,” “Romance,” etc. Call them whatever you like!
