The biowars are an ongoing conflict between the Jovian Republic and invasive superorganisms known as the Gods of Life. They will serve as a setting for my next game, if I ever properly get around to writing it.
Idk if this is a bit of a spoiler question for your nedt peoject but how did the conflict started? Did those gods wanted to invade the republic for the sake of it?
Ok then.
I’d rather not answer questions about something I’m yet to write. Not because of spoilers, but because the answer will probably change four of five times before I put it to paper. I don’t have everything figured out in advance.
Omeg fr milking Saturnine
(pls milk it more, I wanna play another one of these}
If I wanted to milk something, I’d find myself a better goat. I just like writing stories for this setting, and Saturnine happened to be the first one I published.
Is the Jovian republic like, uniquely dystopian for the setting.
I’m guessing you haven’t played saturnine? If so you should, but to answer the question it isn’t
Is there a human civilization in the saturnine world that’s not straight up dystopian but rather something better than dystopian?
As the other guy said, it’s a grimdark setting. The Jovian Republic is like, 6/10 on the dystopia scale.
There are tens of thousands of habitats out there, and the TTRPG has rules for creating your own, so I image there are political systems you’d like. Not every asteroid has to be dystopian. You just won’t find undisputed good guys, or anyone who’s having a great time with no strings attached.
I kind of just bounced off Saturine. No offense, but it felt like it wasn’t going to be for me.
@Omeg are you going to get into why Vic’s body is cold later in the story or will that remain a mystery? My initial speculation is that he/she is some kind of sophisticated undead.
It will be elaborated on. That’s all I’m allowed to say.
I refused Perun’s aid but I can’t truthfully tell Sergi that I refused Perun’s offer and saying you weren’t able to negotiate anything is seen as a lie.
I’ll fix that sometime.
Okay, so… I’ve scrolled across this one a few times… after reading the description didn’t really think it would be something I would like very much… finally gave it a try, and got instantly hooked!
The plot and decisions that the MC makes is really interesting and feels rewarding, with a lot of different variations to choose from. There’s been quite a few expectation subversions, or hiccups, along the way that feels natural and good for the story rather than feeling like some random, completely out of left field, big middle finger to the reader/audience.. (Holdo my beer while I hyperspace this ship through the entire enemy fleet.)
I feel like my choices really matter, and I love seeing how they actually impact and shape the story.
A few little nitpick criticisms: The romance feels a little lackluster… Usually when a romantic dialogue option pops up there’s not a lot of variety to make advances on my RO… don’t know if that’s because I’m romancing Sergi though (and honestly the game is 10/10 solid even without the romance option.)
I’m going the path of a devout Perun believer, but still trying to make (mostly) good/positive social changes where I can… (No human sacrifices, spare animals where I can, no beating up on the slaves, trying to improve city life for citizens and the underclass.) That being said I want a strong faction fully behind me so I’ve basically torn down every barrier between church and state that I possibly could. I would think that would nearly max out my faction reputation with them, but every now and again I (very diplomatically) tell a cleric of Perun to fuck off with their bullshit, and I feel like that gets weighted really heavily against our character even though on the big stuff we’ve basically turned the city into a theocracy.
I may have uhhh… declared war against the Republic… but there’s a certain scene with a foreign cleric comes in, and I’m showing off my powers. She makes a remark about hoping I haven’t declared war against the entire Republic… and it would be really cool if there was an option to basically verbally double down on that… something like how the Republic needs to be reorganized into the first Galactic Dominion of Perun or something… ; ) idk, just a random thought.
Anywho, amazing story, I love where you’re going with it, and I’m excited to see what you’ve got cooking up next! ^-^
Ngl, I personally think Vic’s an android
I do wonder what you mean. Aside from one-off jokes, I don’t think I’ve ever tried to subvert expectations in this story. I just write plots that feel natural to me.
If it helps, all five main ROs will make a move on you first, if you go on their side quest and keep the relationship bar high. If you don’t like any of the flirt options, there’s no need to take any of them, you should still be able to score at some point.
That’s the challenge of designing a reputation system using fairmath. One action can mean a significant drop when your score is high, or a huge boost when your score is low. I try to counter it with flat increases and variables that modify your reputation at multiple points, but it’s still janky.
Not a bad idea. Star Wars references are always in fashion, and I don’t think I’ve done any yet.
Spoilers
I wasn’t expecting Perun to be an artificial intelligence that’s been constrained to not harm people.. a part of our city guard going full Leroy Jenkins, and running off to do battle against the Republic were the two things that particularly stood out to me.
That makes sense, if you have not read Saturnine before this game. I did, and so I wasn’t thinking about it as a subversion.
That feels like a surprise because it was surprising for me too. Chapter Five did not exist in my original outline for this game, I added it to improve the pacing and emphasize how the player does not have total control over Natrun’s forces.
