Oh, maybe its because i skipped the particularly gory bits, but its still odd that we cant even mention it to him afterwards

You can end up out of the room for not liking the torture. Which I avoided the torture and expressed not liking, if remembered correctly.

In this game, you control the character. The character does not control you. Therefore, it is completely possible to be an emotional rollercoaster, feeling one way in one moment, then another way in the next. Your character doesn’t get locked in to personalities, because you are the personality.

The MC can be sqeamed out and not participate but they are always at least complacent with the torture. Considering how despicable torture is and the moral even horizon it represents, I’ve always found it weird how all MCs are essentially forced to at least be complacent with it.

One would think that in an interactive fiction game where revenge is a primary theme that the player would have some agency in deciding how they will go about pursuing their revenge, including choosing which lines we cross (or don’t cross) in the process. I don’t think the story delivers on (what I considered to be) that promise just yet.

Specifically, I would like to see an option to try pass an intellect/charisma check to try trick/convince the guy to spill the beans prior to torture commencing.

Also, I remember when first reading the torture scene I was generally impressed by the guy resisting the torture as long as he did for the sake of protecting his family. I was disappointed when they killed him right after. Considering how the Mafia sometimes places high value on family and honour, I was surprised there wasn’t an option to advocate for the guy to live or to at least take care of his family

Lastly, I had hoped for the torture scene to fundamentally change the way the MC views Luka and Jackal, especially because it’s been established that the MC has not seen much of the dirty side of the family business as of yet. Personally, I know if I saw my father and his partner brutally torture and murder someone, I would not see them the same afterwards.

The MC knew stuff like this happened in the family business so that’s probably why they are complacent to it and why it doesn’t change how they see Luka in a great way either.

I mean, Luka would most likely still torture him in case he is still hiding something or at the very least he would still kill the guy.

I need to do it again. Its been awhile since I did that scene.

I wonder when we’ll start fighting other superpowered people. When you think about it, we haven’t fought anyone with powers yet and I want to see how our MC match up against someone or a team of people with powers. Give me a scene where a team of heroes or villains tries to take me on while I about to solo them as a Mafia Heiress! Would be a good way of making a name for ourselves.

We already did and curbstomped their asses in the bar that everyone goes to for a lead, and there was also the attempted robbery guy in the alleyway. You probably skimmed past that part from what it sounds like to me

I remember the bar part somewhat I guess but what attempted robbery?

They are likely speaking of that petty flame theif that was in the alley trying to rob the mother and kid after the torture scene of that one guy.

Oooh, that guy! He was so weak that I forgot that he was a powered person.

Lol yeah

Gravity shift pretty much is powerful alone. If the enemy cant fly, their screwed. Its true with most, or have something to help them. If MC isnt trying to kill, it differs.

This. I mean, the guy was a part of the group of mercs that killed his brother and our dad. There was no way he was walking out of that room alive, even if family was important. The family would always be more important than the family of a man that wronged our uncle and grandpa that badly.

I’m usually of the opinion that players should have more agency in determining these things and that if the story has reasons to deny you a choice where it’s expected, that’s a writing FLAW, since it doesn’t benefit the medium being used. Typically my position is that it’s just the thermian argument. If you can only justify that something has to be a certain way because of another story element, rather than justifying how it enhances the story, it’s a fallacy because you can change those things. It was my issue with the commissioner scene (don’t want to start that debate up again, it’s just a bit of an elephant in the room I want to get out of the way, and relevant for comparison).

I don’t really agree with that in this case though. A way to get the info from this guy without torture WOULD make sense, especially since torture isn’t that reliable, but this is probably an exception to my view on player agency. It makes NO SENSE to spare this guy. He did actively participate in the murder, so there’s not the ethical dilemma we had with the commissioner, he’s still a liability, a big one in fact, and it wouldn’t make sense in this story to have actual hardened gangsters be the one group that opposes revenge killings. And unlike the former case, I can’t see how this would cause any problems for a mafia that any of their other murders wouldn’t, especially for a group as well connected as the Morozovs. Unless this were one of those shonen anime where the protagonists are like, pirates or gangsters or something, but only their evil counterparts do any of the unsavory crime or even kill their enemies. I crushed a dude’s head like a watermelon in this game, I think we’re beyond that.

You can’t really make a story about the Bratva and the Yakuza that’s for mature audiences and have them willingly spare someone who helped KILL THE BOSS’S SON.

Killed my dad, kill your dad, killed you, kill…

Endless string to happen. In my case, I WOULDNT continue that string of circumstances. Unless wiped out their whole bloodline as Queen of Fables once said. Someone will always be affected.

So, no, I would avoid it.

I need to omit some lines. Lets just say, its very personal experience. I know I wouldnt follow through as a choice.

Even though you end the bloodline they will always be someone who carries the touch for you despite not being related to that person or the family, like have you seen demon slayer(just for remembering a legendary demon slayer, your descendant become MC with a destiny connected to a person they got no blood ties with) and also there is that one person that is a lover, friend or rival to someone in the family that will just start gunning for you if you eliminate that person they treasured, respect, owe a favour and looked up to

Yes.

I know the choice is real for me. The victims may as well been killed on the way they live, myself included.

The leaving decision should never be omitted from story.
