United We Stand - Political WIP

@anon49824592 sorry for high aggressive tone. I think we should both have faith that the author is not in anyways normalizing fascism or the darker aspects of communism.

For the romance we already have 13 yes yes we do

@ruhenri you love Kant too!:heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

Well, regarding the 13 ROs, I usually have some issues when it comes to finding ROs I connect with in CoG, having an higher number basically gave me 3 amazing ROs that I actually care about, that is pretty great and rare.

And besides, Alex is investing more time in each one of them than the regular CoG does. At least every scene feels meaningful and a good showing of the increasingly complex characters.

But hey, that’s just my opinion. I’m in no way more right than you

Alex have been nothing but brilliant so far with every aspect of the game and its world. I have absolute faith in him to do so.

And onto a lighter subject:

Absolutely amazing and the best romantic option I have ever found.

This being said, my dear Sir… “love her too?” I don’t like what thou are implying, I have professed my eternal love for the lady since day one, hence the lady in question and her affections belong to me! If thou challenge my claim we shall meet at dawn at Aetoria in the great United Kingdom of Tierra and settle the issue with a good old fashioned duel till first blood! :stuck_out_tongue:

On a more serious note, I really like her mesmerizing intelligence, divine looks, conflicted and self-destructive personality, and left-leaning political stance. And don’t get me talking about the level of beauty of the scene where she becomes MC’s lover, the best RO scene I have ever read in CoG, only Choice of Robots has a couple of scenes capable of stealing that title off its hands. We should create a “Kant fan club”, hum?

Objectively I don’t think even the Moravian Goebbels can reach the potential heights of butchery and rabid persecution my XoR mc, to name a potential example might.
But that is of course comparing apples and oranges, but that is to say that there are games on this site that potentially allow the mc to do a good deal worse then even real Goebbels from a strictly utilitarian perspective, were their victims/casualties actually real.

Well, like I said to @Urban a while ago, none of our fictional characters would presumably receive “top secret” clearance from the modern Dutch or Brazilian governments, seeing how utterly infatuated they are with foreign spies, had they been real and contemporary politicians.

I find Jules to be delightful. Okay he leans a bit to the suave and sexy French lover stereotype, but on a former poor, nobody kid like my mc that works very, very well. Apart from that gay men of that era needed to naturally be more guarded and less open in their interactions compared to the last 2-3 decades in the West.

I honestly hadn’t noticed until you mentioned, personally I don’t mind the sex and I have my own image of the ro’s in my head in most cases anyway. So what does the most for my mc is Jules smile and smexy accent/voice.

Any system can, our own Dutch “Golden Age” is factually an experiment in economic libertarianism gone horribly awry and ending up in dynastic monopolies in a “noble republic” where all that wealth was contrasted by the slave trade and disturbingly high numbers of people starving in the streets given the relative national wealth level, even accounting for the time period.

Yep, the protagonist is up to us. The conservative mc can be more of a paternal autocrat or stealth conservative within in New Order, working towards the establishment of a conservative, authoritarian kingdom, rather than an outright fascist state. At the very least a successful “moderate” New Order mc seems to be willing to work with the mainline conservatives and nationalists towards the establishment of such a state under the “rightful” King.
So if that succeeds Riga would presumably have to at least share power with King Georg and quite likely the National Bloc, Conservatives as well. Which would make Moravia just another one of the shockingly common, right-wing, authoritarian states of the time period, albeit with its own unique flavour of course.

Likewise the moderate Solidarity path sees the mc working towards a government of national unity and presumably a future compromise, genuine social-democratic state as democratic socialists themselves.
While democratic socialism doesn’t lend itself well to authoritarianism it might be possible if there is a civil war to try and reconcile with Moscow and go in a more authoritarian Stalinist/Leninist direction from the left side of the spectrum too.

Not on the moderate paths and in any case, if playing the mc as an ambitious politician your character’s ideological devotions might possible be questionable when it comes to the specifics of it anyhow.

I wouldn’t call the current sex gratuitous, but then again my perspective is filtered by how difficult it was, particularly for lower class but ambitious gay people like my to keep any sort of reputation intact while having any sort of meaningful sex-life. In any case I always envisioned my mc being not that far removed from still being a virgin, so that little escapade with Jules was certainly welcome for him.

That’s personal of course. For my part I think runaway economic “libertarianism” is an (almost) equally disgusting premise. Particularly if that ends in a “noble republic” defending the hereditary economic monopoly fiefdoms of its “regents”. Social justice, is very, very important. But don’t fall into the trap of some of our “new left” or the contemporary Democratic party in the USA to start thinking that economic justice is not or can always be sacrificed as long as it marginally increases social justice.

I did peek extensively at the code and if I ever was inclined towards an ambitious female mc, then I can definitely see the attraction of either General Falk or Prince/King Georg.
The good general in particular seems a real gentleman in his personal life for someone espousing such an authoritarian public view. The prince of course is young and cute and well a prince. From what I can glean from the code he also seems to be smarter then most people perceive him to be.
But yeah, no gay relationships and their hardcore authoritarianism ultimately disqualify them for me too.

But they need not, and if they do that’s ultimately largely up to your choices in-game. Again moderate New Order seems to be no worse than many other right-wing, authoritarian European regimes during the real 1930’s and moderate Solidarity seems to be a good deal more moderate, or at least far more willing to compromise in the short term then that still.

Now that I’ve corrected that statement, I agree wholeheartedly.

Oh i love Political stuff

Yeah, Alex’s take on romance is quite refreshing for the CoG’s usual stuff. I mean, there are only a couple of games I can mention that don’t go too shy on the sex scenes and physical descriptions, and this is clearly one of them. Sex is a part of life, so is appreciating physical traits of any gender, especially when our MC is already starting a relationship with whatever NPC. I mean, if we sleep with someone, we sure notice their appealing physical traits, that’s nature.

But maybe that’s the Europeans in us, hum?

Alex is also European, so that might help explain the willingness of his literature to portray those issues. American literature seems especially reluctant in doing so.

Btw, @AlexClifford1994, I really appreciate that your style is quite different from most CoG. After 2/3 years playing CoG (almost every single one of them), I find myself getting a bit tired of the lack of differences between one CoG and the next. Despite the differences between each game, there is a standardization regarding style and way to portray things. Your game-book feels quite fresh on that regard. I find myself increasingly drawn to CoG who show the author, its hands all over the story, details and literary style, even when I don’t necessarily love those choices (not the case with your portrayal of sexual relationships and so on, which I do enjoy).

Yeah, once again, I agree with @idonotlikeusernames. They don’t seem gratuitous at all. They add to the respective characters and to the relationship. I would appreciate if they weren’t changed, they are perfect and are 100% justifiable, but obviously the final decision is up to Alex.

His romantic path was especially (and surprisingly) romantic. Even the way Alex portrayed the sexual relationship between the MC and him shows that he is different from men such as Riga or the King, who were cold and domineering (which obviously shows us who they are).

I very much prefer Franz in the male department. Jules is interesting and I would very much enjoy being his friend, but for me he is too formal for a romantic relationship, were I prefer bad girls (or bad boys when I role-play as gay or female).

I mean I get the attraction, but it also depends on my mc and Franz is just too similar to my mc already to see him as anything other then a friend and a possible political protege later on.
Besides, I don’t think Jules is nearly as much of a “good boy” as he pretends. He is likely a damned good actor, but then again, much like the other foreign spy diplomat he kind of has to be and for him that is compounded by the need to be very discrete about his true sexuality. On top of that there is the whole cultured and sexy foreigner thing that my main mc is very much drawn to.

I still mean to play an aristo mc in order to romance Franz, as for me that dynamic works better and there are small tells I know from skimming the code that Franz likely responds best to the (former) aristo mc himself.

He seems to be one of the last (perhaps the last) of the old-school gentlemen in Moravia and the way Alex writes him it seems the good general manages to embody the best and worst qualities of a good old gentleman at the same time. In another game people like the General would have made for some of the best villains, as it is their institutional conduct, rather then their personal one that needs to be feared.

The Prince/King is also very much still somewhat of a boy trying to act tough, or at least tougher and harsher then he likely really is. But then again that sort of “tough guy” has long been the object of lots of bodice-ripper novels, given how sheltered the Prince seems to have been he might think that’s what all women want. Besides that he is the youngest male ro in the game and he is sexy and charming and a lot smarter and more politically aware than most people are willing to give him credit for. Likely that is in part so that on the “moderate” New Order path the King can indeed function as possible check and balance and counterweight on Riga’s power.

He is the only of the powerful right-wingers that I do like. I mean, I don’t like his politics, but he seems a genuinely good guy, trying to do what he thinks right. And who doesn’t like a gentleman, hum?

I’m not sure. Time will tell, I guess, but there every time I see a crack in his shell, I don’t quite like what I see, he is too authoritarian and cold. Still, the character shows great potential.

Eh. As much as I like Choice of Robots, ‘beauty’ isn’t the word I’d use to describe that scene (if you’re pondering what I’m pondering). IIRC, it was a sentimental bit about the sacredness of millenial lovemaking and the RO’s red underwear, and it caused me to pitch my phone across the room.

Friendship is overrated

I’m dead inside

Hello all and thank you for your patience.

Just thought I’d let you know that this WiP is not dead (hooray) but also that the next update is still some way away. The next chapter, depicting the election campaign is a pretty hefty one, both in terms of size and importance to the story. Its from here that things start branching off quite a lot, so as you can imagine it’s a lot of work.

At the same time, as I alluded to a little while back, the amount of time I have to put work into the project has decreased dramatically, so the pace of progress has really dropped off. To those of you who have awaited updates for so long I can only apologise, and I know this post probably has got a few hopes up, only to be dashed.

All I can say is that really, regular updates will not be possible until the summer due to my work and so just hang on in there! In the meantime, I’m always open to suggestions, comments and feedback. Thank you so much for your continued support

Yayyy I am so glad this project is getting updated you have no idea! Please take your time and keep up the amazing work!!

On an unrelated note, I just finished playing the New Order route (quite reluctantly considering what just happened here in Italy I must admit) but awwww Herta is such a sweetheart, I love her!
I can’t help but romancing her whenever I play this route, especially considering her feelings for the male MC.
Will she have an unrequited crush on the MC no matter what romance he choose? Will her fellings be addressed? Does Franz feel the same way for the Solidarity route MC?

Having found this game, and being a huge historical and political junkie, I must confessed I have played both main routes multiple times! Naturally I am very much in favor of the socialist route :joy:. Anyways I shall patiently await the update and the election! The Popular Front must succeed!

Edit: Also wondering, apologies if this was already answered earlier in the thread, will the election be the last big part of the game? Or will there be some more chapters dealing with the consequences of the election? Will WW2 be relegated to just epilogue?

No the fascists will succeed

If by that you mean will the country be invaded and conquered by Nazi Germany during WW2 then, yes. If you mean will Moravia’s indigenous and it must be noted German hating fascists succeed? Then that is up in the air and ultimately up to our and our mc’s actions during the game.
