United We Stand - Political WIP

Again, the set of laws in question need serious thinking. And it is supposed to be so that someone from the lower ranks can quickly ascend to the top position and have someone else elected to occupy his previous position, even the same guy who commanded the country before.

I don’t really understand what’s so wrong with a centralized government with harsh laws (death) keeping them from corruption. And with the people empowered to depose everyone and a separate independent power to investigate, it should at least solve the robbery and corruption.

Maybe if all legislation were passed by popular vote and affected parties, but that would require a strong educational system which Brazil simply doesn’t have.

It has never work in all story of humanity. Humans as group are selfish and power hungry. So when someone up in ranks will probably try to use it to be more than the rest. A individual could be good and pure but the group is not.

So give more power to a group is not good thing. Democracy at least try to making a power division

Or pre 1917 Netherlands and then again during the great depression till WW2.Or hell even our “golden age” republic that measured your rights almost directly by your wealth.

History is almost as full of those examples being tried and failing then it is of pure fearmongering, monstrous dictators.

Exactly, that’s reason nepotism and plutocracy doesn’t work at all. Like Venice Renaissance o

Yeah, you’re right. Judiciary needs to be separated from the main government for this to work.
I’m not quite sure if there’s any new form of government to be made, though, only slight deviations from democracy that keeps bribery and corruption from happening.
So my assumption about fascism was right, the method isn’t wrong in itself, it’s the way society has been built and the way people use power that makes it wrong, much like socialism and how Marx ended up wrong.
Well, i guess i would’ve avoided the error if i thought about it more. But i can’t control myself when i want to turn things into a debate.

@Darkner Interesting video, but what you said really contradicts what’s being said there: The power itself isn’t bad, it’s the way power is maintained in dictatorship that forces the ruler to be corrupt. If so, the obvious solution is to align the interests of the ruler and the “keys” with those of the people. And guess what? Democracy does that in a ridiculously efficient way, even if power needs to be decentralized for it to work.
Damn it, i’m seriously considering playing a Democrat now, but that’ll have to wait for my ironical government runs (first a push for Socialist dictatorship, then using New Order to establish a “good dictatorship”, which is basically imposing what i believe is right into people, then i’ll go socialist and try to help democracy win the day). Guess i know what i’ll be doing when this WiP is launched.

Many thanks for the video, it’s a simple explanation that ended some doubts i had. CGP Grey’s music, cynical explanation and that blink at the end… I think i’ll have nightmares for some time.

I think I prefer Antoine.

But what is the point of having power if you cannot keep it? Power does not exist in isolation, as a ruler you need to scratch a few backs and corruption is the best way to reward your cronies. Even in a democracy corruption exists. Whether that is through gerrymandering or tax loopholes for your key supporters, backs need to be scratched.

Actually anyone in a position of power like CEO’s and even school headmasters need to placate the right supporters to stay in power. This is why in this game, I play the Socialist but I choose to work with SDP so to grow support of the party and hopefully one day manage to win a parliamentary majority to govern. I chose to work with the French not because I like France but because I know the party needs funds to compete. France scratches my back, and I will scratch their backs when we get to power.

That largely goes for my mc as well, of course he would fully expect French investors and businesses to fully comply with any new labour codes our government passes, what with them being law-abiding businessmen and all.

Mid to long term small countries like Moravia and my own need to get our military hardware from somewhere too, so why not France this time around?
Of course my mc fancying their cute representative does help a bit too.

Antoine could work too I guess. Too bad the eponymous Saint-Exupéry only wrote the “Little Prince” in the 1940’s otherwise my character would have had a nickname for our cute French representative in the game, should the author choose that name.

A list of more common male names in France 2010
1 Nathan
2 Enzo
3 Lucas
4 Louis
5 Hugo
I like Lucas Hugo or louis

For this game 1910 would be more relevant.

Well yeah, But Hugo and Louis and Lucas was fair common names in france. Not Enzo or Nathan Also Jules Jules is cool

What if he were named Napoleon? :innocent: :gift_heart:

This deal, and the deal with the Italians which the New Order player has the chance to do in the upcoming chapter is pretty advisable I’d say. Provides a safety net if things got south, although it’s not all positive, that’s all I’ll say.

Antonie, Hugo, Louis, Lucas, Napoleon? I feel like I need to make a decision to end all this French name uncertainty. Jules it is.

And finally, an announcement, New Order chapter 4 will be out this weekend. Currently have done the intro part as well as the no confidence motion and meeting the Italian diplomat sections, need to do the political meeting with New Order leadership and the victory parade. Then also obviously I’ve got to do 5 different options for your evening in Moosach. Still, am going to work hard tomorrow and hopefully it’ll be out Sunday. Then I’ll start work immediately on chapter 5, which is a treat if i say so myself.

Well for people like me and my mc it is also better for our relations with the very cute French representative.

@AlexClifford1994 I found a problem on New Order path.
If you accept Lady Lydia proposal in chapter 2 there is no variable there for this choice to be remembered, so this scene will never trigger:

*if ironfront
“A couple of things actually. Of course there’s the budget…” she taps her cigarette over a marble ash tray, “But first the result of our first meeting.”

At the height of summer you had attended one of Lady Howe's garden parties where she had recommended an understanding between the greyshirts and the Civil Guard.

"Well it took a lot of meetings," she explains, "It took months of joint committees and a secert deal with the police union to make the uniforms, but all that hard work has come to fruition."

"We have finally come to an arrangement with your greyshirt leaders. From now on, confrontations between the Civil Guard and your paramilitaries should be kept a minimum. There are now agreements in place with regards to territory and jurisdicition," she proudly declares.

You feel the warm glow of pride, "Thank you, it is... strange to see something I helped start come to fruition. Let's hope it was worth all the effort."

"Now, we can't rest on our laurels, there is another battle today."

@Urban thanks, will just add that variable in for the next update.

Alessandra is very cute. She’s classy, driven, tall, and Italian so…
But obviously that wouldn’t be a motive in high level diplomatic negotiations

Only if that was true…

While this worked for the Solidarity, it will not work for New Order, because the budget can pass even if you don’t support it, you just need not to make a speech and it will pass.

Well not in high level diplomacy, since the high-level diplomats tend to be ancient, often 70+. But the lower ranks and their assistants often do seem suspiciously cute. So our mc’s are probably lucky that the ancient Grey eminences of diplomacy cannot be seen to involve themselves in deals with the potential to backfire like this one. So we get the young cuties. Yay! :yum:

And female, so she wouldn’t really be attractive in that way to my mc. Now if she had a brother…but then the fascists would probably kill us both. Their utterly atrocious record on the treatment of gay guys, often denying we even exist, much like Chechnya today is why I cannot put myself to play the New Order path, even in fiction.
