Twine & Other Text-based Interactive Fiction games recommendations from Itch.io

Yes this one thank you!

After getting 0 or 1 views a day for the last few months, I got almost 100 views and 40 browser plays since yesterday. When I checked where the views were coming from, it led me to this forum. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for creating this thread. I found quite a few text-based game recommendations above that I like.

Hey! I just want to thank you for putting my little demo up! It really motivated me to speed up getting my prologue out after feeling stagnant.

Honestly, you and everyone who follows this list is a blessing, thank you so much!

Most of those are abandoned or without update over 2 years

true but if more people keep coming to check and play the games, it will just lure the authors back with renew passion for writing or convince those authors that people still love the game and have not forgotten them and also it can just inspire someone to write a story

Even if they’re old, what’s there is still generally a good read.

Literally any of the Percy Jackson esque ones. Like, one would think the Percy Jackson format would be pretty popular and it’s perfect for a CYOA game but like none exist(at least that I know). The closest to it is the Keeper of series and I guess Champion of the Gods(tho I’d be hard pressed to count it cause a huge part of Percy Jackson is the modern day setting).

There’s one on itch, but it hasn’t been updated in a while. The most vocal of the team working on it got pretty upset with some of the commenters, so it may not be coming back for a good while.

what? and what was their complain? that it was good?

Actually the complain was the book is copying the original and so on like that

The two or three writing it were always VERY upfront about it being fan fic, and that they would be using some phrases and passages verbatim from the books as well as not really deviating from the plot (except for the obvious needs to make it interactive.) So when those were the very things that got all the complaints…well, it pissed people off. Imagine going to any fan fic forum and constantly poking at the author about their project being “too derivative” and the reaction you’d get there, and that’s pretty much what happened at itch. Comments have been turned off since like…January, I think.

Yeah the comments are turned off but it still says that the game is still in development and not hiatus or abandoned, so there is still a chance the author is still making it

To be fair, you start running into copyright issues when you do stuff like that, Especially if you plan to sell it after completing

Last one I heard about got a cease and desist. I can’t remember the name of it now because I think they changed it during their rebrand.
