Noooooo!
That cannot be! I refuse to believe it! I AM INVINCIBLE!! ![]()
“Unmissable Sammy scenes?” Now my MC wants to kill him.
Any way to trim it for a normal playthrough, but have the content be reachable if you make special decisions to indicate more investment in the dream? Like some sort of “Get me out of this dream!” versus “No I must stick around and make this perfect!” ![]()
That could work, actually.
What are people’s thoughts?
Well, contrary to my own feelings, I would advocate having the trimmed version be the default; I’d hope that would avoid the problems where it breaks people’s narrative flow and being forced on people for whom it doesn’t really belong. It would then end up being more like optional bonus content for people who do wish to explore that path.
What would signify desire to get out of the dream? How would you make sure it was clear that choices meant “skip dream entirely” or that you wanted to keep going? Like if it was clearly done I don’t see the issue with letting people who like it or want to explore it (maybe then you could add an achievement for going through the whole thing?) do so but I don’t want to accidentally end up going through a chapter of content because I’m playing an empathetic character who’s comforting Sammy rather than just denying that anything is real
Well, there are already a few “This is a dream. Wake up!” choices. I could add in a few more, and make them boot you directly into the Kurtesh bit (which I won’t be trimming), maybe with a will check (with decreasing difficulty). I mean, that’s what I’m already doing, but only in the final fight, so I could just extend it to earlier in the dream, and make the will checks easier.
Does that sound like a good way to do it?
I like it better, and I’d be okay if that’s what you went with.
I still take issue with the dream’s content though, and would still rather just avoid all of it. (Only the part referring to the MC not having powers–the Kurtesh stuff feels relevant.) It just doesn’t add anything to the story–I didn’t walk away with a better understanding of any of the characters, or of the world, it’s effectively filler
I entirely agree. It all just feels - unnecessary. Like a randomly placed model in a 3D game environment. You walk by it and think, “Why the hell is this here?”
Now that I think about it(the dream), it doesn’t really affect anything, does it? Other than the insight about the Kurtesh thing.
That’s one way of doing it, though if you make it just a will check, it may encourage repeat players to choose the will path just so they can skip the dream sequence, which is not a good incentive to have.
If you insist on the checks, I would make it so that there are parts of the dream sequence that require a specific strength in a skill in order to skip the dream. It’s not perfect, but it’ll do.
I think any of the stats could have a check
Empathy: This isn’t how my friends would act!
Wit: Figures it out naturally…
Will: WAKE UP!
But the dream is my magnum opus! My finest work! How could anyone not like it!?
I jest, of course. A couple of people have said that they like it, so it won’t be removed entirely, but I will make it possible to skip, and for any character build, not just will-high (currently, it’s only part of a scene that can be skipped, so restricting it to will-high characters seemed fine). Note: I will not be changing the Kurtesh part of the dream, however.
I’ll probably make it so you have to read through until the funeral, though, but from then, you’ll be able to wake yourself up, based on your highest stat.
Awww…cheer up, personally think Alex in your other wip is your magnum opus thus far. ![]()
Since you seem to have a Sammy bias XD maybe, if the MC goes through the whole dream, they get extra dialogue with the kid?
totallynottryingtogivesammymorescreentime
Just one way to make the dream’s content not restricted to just inside the dream, never to be mentioned again, I guess?
I like this
I already deliberately refrained from choosing this is a dream choices because I wanted to see where it would go, but it should be clear enough for those who’d prefer skipping. Best of both worlds, hopefully?

Sorry, reflex action ![]()
@UmbraLamia: Well, I’m thinking of an achievement…
Also, currently, if Sammy dies in the dream, there’s a higher chance he’ll die IRL, but I’m thinking I can reverse that, so that if you protect him to the end, then he’ll have a higher chance of survival…
Or, if you’re feeling slightly more sadistic today: If Sammy survives in the dream, he’ll has a lower chance of survival, and vice versa. ![]()
Hmmm… nah I think your name is…
I always picture you as a cannibal when you talk like that
Especially with that little yellow guy licking his lips…[quote=“TSSL, post:1962, topic:15440”]

Guy I tried to abandon and I was probably the only one who saw the errors for that scene!
There’s a Sammy IRL?! ![]()
