It’s almost here… just a few more hours
Devon did mention that he submitted the game on September but got delayed so much. He didn’t informed the fanbase about it though but he eventually mentioned that it was out of copyedit and then out of playtest and then we got our surprise. XD
Anyway, I will be checking the playstore later in the afternoon in my time. I hope everything goes well.
Part of me is super happy and excited for tomorrow, the other part of me is salty because I live in the EU and have to work from 4 till midnight. (Even now I still have a reason to complain ) But I hope you all will have a lot of fun playing~
It might seem weird but I wanted to thank you guys (and Sera!) for being so positive and for keeping the hype going. It actually means a lot to me.
Now my biggest issue is… Saving my money for the full game since I just seem to be wasting 99 cents on this different app lol probably should turn off my phone and just go to bed or something.
Last minute posting before the full game is uploaded.
MC is Lucas Kingston. Face-claim is Simon Pegg. I’m still not sure how much I like this collage I’ve created, but…
Notes (Long and fairly detailed):
About the Kingston Family
(Note: I’m almost completely making up everything until World War 1. And I was bored, which probably explains why I’m writing an essay here.)
- Prior to the American Revolutionary War, the Kingstons were largely known as a family of peasants and fishermen. They knew the smell of seawater well enough, having lived near the area of Southampton and Portsmouth for centuries, but had few stories of battle to speak of to tell their children. It was when the Thirteen Colonies declared independence, however, that the first desires for something beyond their little area of England was first sparked. Benjamin Kingston, barely 17 when the Battles of Lexington and Concord were fought, was the first to take to the seas. He made it home alive, though a changed man. His younger cousin, Reginald, would follow in his footsteps, eventually fighting alongside the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular Campaign in the Napoleonic Wars.
- Much of their family returns to a state of relative normalcy–working class with a fishing heritage–, although one of Reginald’s children (Samuel) would later become one of the first police officers in Wayhaven. In the meantime, other members of the Kingston family serve in other areas of the British Empire sporadically throughout the rest of the 19th century; most notably, in the East India Company and onward to the existence of the British Raj, the area now known as the Chinese province of Guangdong, and the British holdings in the West Indies. Furthermore, a number of family members fought in the Crimean War.
- Before the years prior to the First World War, the focus of the Kingston family firmly shifted to matters closer to home. By this point, service as a police officer had become something of a family tradition alongside service in the Royal Navy, although a handful had found meaningful work in other areas of local government in Portsmouth and Southampton. Among those who would uphold the family tradition were Helena Kingston, the first female police officer in Wayhaven and partial namesake of Rebecca Helena Kingston (Wikipedia has been pretty helpful with this). By the outbreak of the war, however, their family would be called to serve the Empire both home and abroad. Among such areas would be combat in the trenches along the French-Belgian border and serving aboard minesweepers along the English Channel.
- World War 2 also contributed to the Kingston Family history. Lucas’ grandfather, Robert, was among those who fought in D-Day and other engagements, while his great-uncle Phillip served in MI5 both during and after the war. Even for those living in Wayhaven, the fishing industry was scarcely relevant as a source of employment outside of the older generations. The Kingstons had become known as a police and military family, although a significant number would also work in several businesses in southern England. By the end of the war, there had been a few who chose to move to Canada, the United States, and Australia.
- Largely inspired by her uncle, Rebecca Kingston would eventually work for the National Criminal Intelligence Service (Note: I see the acronym too–it was a real agency) before transferring to the Serious Organised Crime Agency. She has also admitted to working for an obscure government organization in the latter years of her life. During this time, she would give birth to Lucas Robert Kingston. For reasons she’s kept to herself, she had refused to disclose much information about his father. An old family friend, Dr. Nathaniel Turner, had become something of a father figure for Lucas, instilling in him a sense of curiosity in the sciences and the natural world.
Relations with the people of Wayhaven and Unit Bravo
- Lucas would consider his relationship with mother to be strong, despite the fact that her job has routinely kept her busy. It may have made things awkward in his developing years, but, eventually, he would adapt. The core reasons for his views were due to how open Rebecca was about what she did in her job. Granted, there were some areas that were considered classified (the nature of working for a crime agency) and didn’t strive to bring her work home, but she would never treat it as some completely taboo subject if Lucas had any questions. He knew the history of his family–fishermen, sailors in the Royal Navy, police officers, and occasional government employee–and simply chalked it up as being the nature of the beast. When he does find out that he’s been working alongside vampires, however, he would have to admit that it would make for an awkward meeting with her. He doesn’t like to be lied to, and an omission of truth of this magnitude certainly counts.
- He was a newly minted police officer when he first met Tina Poname. Having broken up with Bobby not too long ago, he was at something of an emotional impasse. While Lucas was something of a kind yet introverted person even as a child, it was at this time that he had become more emotionally withdrawn. Someone like Tina was awkward to deal with, but he knew that he would have to live with her as his partner. Over the years, however, her energy cracked through the walls he was trying to build, although with a certain gentleness he would appreciate, and he grew to see her as one of the few people he could genuinely open up to in times of need. Roberta (Bobby, as she preferred to be called) had done a number on him. Not only had he refused to date anyone after her, but simply the ability to trust others had been damaged. By the time of his promotion, however, he had become a changed man. Not what he was before Bobby, but smarter and a little wiser. (Depending on the person he’s speaking to, he’d reluctantly admit to being physically attracted to her, but the dynamic between each other isn’t right. They’re better off being good friends.)
- He should’ve followed his instincts when it came to Bobby. Yes, in the beginning, he could open up around her, and he would admit that there was some kind of magnetism about her (and, granted, she was easy on the eyes). But there was always this doubt when he thought about it for long enough. Something like the smell of gas around an open flame, the warning of a rattlesnake off of a hiking trail, and a growling hungry dog near fresh meat. He wanted to believe that he was just paranoid for some reason, and he dared not tell her about this. He didn’t want to ruin what they had. And then she used him to her advantage, with little more than a shrug in acknowledgement. It would take a couple of years before he’d get over her and what happened between them, and even then he still had to put on a mask of indifference.
- At first glance, one wouldn’t think Lucas and Verda would get along as well as they do. While one is more lax in following the rules than the other, they both bond over the desire to know more about their world. And, honestly, Lucas can forgive the occasional open drink container in the lab if it means getting a bit of information on a case.
- Until recently, the closest thing he’s ever had to a younger brother was a second cousin of his from Phillip’s side of the family, and even then he still had more common sense than Douglas. Even worse, Lucas has this lingering doubt that he’s here as some sort of spy in the office for his father. Lucas’ relationship with the mayor is already weird as it is, and there’s still a part of him that wonders if there was some hidden agenda in his promotion to Detective, but Douglas isn’t making things any easier. But, even so, he’s willing to try to work with him, even if it means having to confiscate his phone every once in a while. And at least he has the good sense to act ashamed.
- As something of a diplomat, Lucas took to Natalie instantly, having noticed her as something of the heart of the group. Of course, there was an attraction to her, but, mentally he seemed to have skipped that part, opting instead to view her as a friend (or, failing that, someone to help negotiate between the police station and Unit Bravo). Being someone who is called to work with the public on numerous occasions (he sees his duty to his town as the reason for his calling), he easily sympathizes with someone like her. The fact that this case is stressing him out as much as it is causes her presence and reassurance to be of much help.
- On the other hand, Ava… is a little more complicated. Ordinarily, the whole “ice queen” thing never really works for him, especially if they’re the team leader and have to work together. He hadn’t noticed it, but their initial butting of heads managed to confuse him. He should feel ashamed for letting things come close to blows, but he could feel something heated between them. Something… unexpected under the circumstances. And, in any case, he’s got a thing for tall women with a degree of muscles on them (which also sort of explains Tina, along with a couple of odd instances with members of the Royal Navy on shore leave). Knowing that he’ll have to make some sort of peace with their leader, he partly took it on himself to try to smooth things over. His tendency to be a diplomat, his desire to maintain some bit of order in his station, and the realization that it really has been a while since he had any romantic involvement makes things a little complicated.
- Lucas is someone who’s naturally shy about physical touch by strangers, so greeting him with a kiss on the hand (with some obvious flirtatious attitude at that) is bound to cause a reaction–just not always the expected sort. Farah’s attempt at a hello left him feeling confused, having only read about this before. Expecting a certain attitude from government agents, things have only improved slightly afterwards. If nothing else, she’s certainly smarter than Douglas, but he’d much rather not be in the same room as her. Now, if she had acted a bit less forward, he might feel a little better about being around her.
- Whatever mood he feels about Ava, at least she has the decency to obey the signage. The fact that Morgan, some sort of government agent (allegedly), chose to smoke inside a police station tells him enough about her. To him, there’s arrogance and then there’s a lack of professionalism. If some dockyard worker can obey basic smoking laws inside his building without much thought, she has no excuse. Her attitude afterwards does her no favors around him, and only the fact that she’s under orders from Ava keeps him from banning her from his station.
Hmm, ~8am LA time is it? That suits me really well, sometime right after my work’ll end.
BTW, a slightly offtopic question: does anyone know if I can gift Apple store apps and do I need some kind of account for that? Got a friend or two who I suspect would enjoy WH.
Simon Pegg as the detective? Ooooooh boy there’s going to be some wild shenanigans lol
Southampton and Portsmouth! We are pretty much neighbors
humuna humuna Simon Pegg
and now for the jinxIt is !00% guaranteed to come out tomorrow its like its unsinkable in its guarantee.
I was thinking of Hot Fuzz when it came to me. Lucas is not quite as hard-nosed about the rules, but would certainly have a pint with Nicholas Angel. As for the region… I’ve never been there, but something from another bit of my writing stuck with me.
Thinks about Hot Fuzz with WC characters
Now that’s some funny stuff right there! Lol
I think you just need to have an account. XD It’s still free to register but unfortunately, I don’t know how Apple works though. =P
Playstore doesn’t have that feature though but I might be mistaken.
I can join you on team “half excited-half salty”. Due to a lovely combination of school, work and me being busy the entire weekend, I’m not able to play the game until sometimes Sunday evening.
Joining in on the hype club, as for who I’m 'mancing i think I’m probably gonna go for either mason or nate my first playthrough. Like I like felix but he’s too overflirtatious for me lmao. Everytime I see him in story all I can think of is the bishie sparkle lolol
Quick question if the game gets released tomorrow will it be released at 12 AM today my bad if this question’s been asked am thinking of staying up
Missed the initial moodboard boat, but wanted to share the one I made before the game’s release
About Diana
Petite, warm, and gentle, Diana isn’t exactly your hardened cop. If anything most people expected her to go after a teaching career when she went away to university because she volunteered as a tutor throughout high school. While she considered it, she’s always admired her mother and thought criminal justice would be just as good a way to help others. Plus, attempting to follow in her mother’s footsteps allowed her to feel a little bit more of that closeness to her that she longs for.
Since she spent so much of her childhood just taking care of herself, Diana grew up fast. She sought the affection she lacked at home by surrounding herself with others. And while she loves taking care of friends and helping strangers, she finds it hard to let herself be vulnerable and truly forthright about her feelings. This has led her to be mostly be a serial dater, besides that one blip with Bobby. She’s not bitter with him though, just more baffled with herself for what she could have seen in him.
But even if romance hasn’t really worked out for her, her career has been going well. The promotion to detective felt a bit rushed to her, but she’s excited to prove herself. She was just kind of hoping it wouldn’t have to be in such unfortunate circumstances, also maybe with a little less domineering and mysterious men involved. Although she was a bit taken aback when her mother dumped Unit Bravo on her, Diana really does want to work together. She can tell there’s more at work than they’ll let her in on, and can’t stand that Adam won’t admit to that.
She’s trying her best to work with Adam, and feels like every step forward with him is somehow two steps back. She’s still trying to figure out how someone as kind and compassionate as Nate could be Adam’s best friend. Though when she took Adam to speak with Kate she was amazed at how well he calmed Kate, and wondered if there was maybe more to him than she initially thought.
And while Tina keeps teasing her about working with so many attractive men now, and Diana admits she finds them attractive she wants to keep things professional. Though, maybe she would take Felix for a night out with Tina, or drag Nate to the book club she’s a part of. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of friendship between coworkers right?
The only one Diana can’t get a read on at all is Mason. In their first meeting, she was painfully aware of how attractive she found him. She finds herself drawn to his aura of ‘I don’t care what you think’ because she’s constantly aware of others perception of her, but she also thinks there’s a fine line between ‘I don’t care’ and being a jerk. But still, when she saw him on the night watch she couldn’t deny that there was a spark there. Or maybe that was the random migraine she got? Either way, Diana is confused as hell right now, and is hoping everything can go back to normal soon. Poor thing doesn’t know what’s going to hit her with the coming chapters
Phew, I wrote more than I thought I would But I also just wanted to say I’ve had so much fun perusing this thread in the lead up to the launch! Everyone’s detective’s are super interesting, and I can’t wait to see how they all end up when the first book wraps
Whoa, that’s a long wait… Fortunately, time goes by fast when you’re busy. Good luck with school and work~
It will be released 8AM on March 8th, California time. https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/ is a good website where you can see what that means for your timezone
Yeah, I use android myself; I’ve done quite a lot of logic board repairs on apple devices, but never used them lol.
Apparently you can send gifts, you just need to install iTunes store on the PC. And register. Oh boy, apple sure loves busy work, but no matter. These tactics are not enough to bloody stop me from sharing the awesomeness
