The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book One (Discussion) FAQ Located on Post 2

I know, I’m just saying the MC is part of that anyone. :frowning:

I am pretty sure that Tina will not be hooking up with anyone else.

See, I don’t think you’re wrong, but I’m certain Sera has only confirmed that she wouldn’t be paired up with anyone in Unit B.

Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find that answer anywhere.

Plot twist. Tina will end with Unit Alpha leader. We can remain as besties because she is part of the supernatural world now.

Just realized I read this wrong last night and made the mistake of thinking the angst would be from outside the relationship (or f-buddyness if it’s M, I guess, lol), or maybe it was wishful thinking after seeing some of the possibilities listed for angst. More convinced than ever to stop at book 4 now and experience the world vicariously through fanfic!

I think the problem may actually revolve around people’s differing definition of “something happening.” I mean, technically “something” happened in book 1, even with the uncooperative ROs. They all basically reach the declaring interest stage, hence the LI lock-in.

From there is where it gets squicky, since N and F are open, while A and M are shut as tight as Fort Knox. Obviously, N and F will be the easy route, with them actually showing signs of caring about the MC (N already does, even if it’s just the friends route). A and M will be the misery route, with virtually no encouragement at all and every ‘hope’ scene followed by an ‘up yours’ from the LI (thinking of M after the patrol scene, telling F there are only certain parts of the detective he’d be interested in knowing, but can barely work up any enthusiasm for even that). So I think the problem is that different people have different tolerances for frustration and misery. Some people love the angst with minimal signs of hope sprinkled in, while others hate angst and find it difficult to suffer through it for the prize at the end, when there’s very little signs of the prize.

I did one playthrough with the triangle and found it so distasteful that I think I’ll pretend that game doesn’t exist. I mean, part of me can rationalize it: Nate is up front with the fact that he thinks there’s something there with the MC, while Adam is vehemently against having anything remotely non-professional to do with her. So thinking it would cause him pain is a stretch, since the only emotion he actually shows is for Nate and the team (minus the MC).

The problem is that I played an Adam playthrough after the triangle and when he’s outside during the Murphy scene, his “i can’t lose you!” ripped my heart out and did the river dance on it. After seeing that, it’s hard to look at the triangle the same way, even given his determination to avoid any and all personal entanglements with the MC. So now the triangle just feels wrong.

I’m not sure how telling us you love angst could calm any worries! :stuck_out_tongue: If anything, it just makes me worry more!

That said, even if it turns out the only book I can tolerate is book 1, you did an outstanding job writing it and making it something I enjoy replaying over and over (and over and over). I’ve been disappointed with the other CoG games I’ve played, because, to be honest, none of them even vaguely compare to this, and lack the replay value. So I applaud you for that, even if the rest of the series proves too painful to suffer through and I have to make my own head canon!

Honestly, I’d love some F friend scenes like this. In college, I had this friend who was always there for me and I was always there for him and we constantly crashed in each other’s rooms, were huggy as hell, and confided in each other about everything (and I’ve never been the confiding type). It was purely platonic, but we were ridiculously close. I would love for my MC to have that with F, especially for the ones who are falling for M or A. The way I see it, anyone romancing M or A needs someone around to make them feel like they aren’t dog poo stuck on M or A’s boots. And it’d make all the angsty BS and coldness easier to deal with for characters who don’t just emotionally shut down altogether when drowned in pain.

I am just glad that the rest of casts were wonderful. I could picture F, N, Tina and Verda supporting Alexa (A run) and Lisbeth (M run) during the angst moments so I am looking forward to it. XD

OMG, my A run is named Alexa as well… Alexa Wolfe…

And yeah, I can see Tina and Verda supporting the MC, too. I love Verda, he’s just all kinds of awesome and sweet. Tina would take the MC out and get her hammered to make her forget her troubles with grumpy vampires, lol. I just want to see it in game instead of being forced to head canon it!

This, so much.

I really can’t wait for those angsty moments when we go with Verda/Tina to vent off a bit. Them joking a bit about beating the shit out of them, but then see the MC is really serious about it and have a really good deep friendship moment there <3

And @EvilChani I think you are thinking waaaaay to bad about the angst. Sera is not a heavy writer. And all the things you are saying about the angst look like something that would happen in a very dark game, which is lucky for us not Sera’s style at all

I understand how you feel. While I enjoy some angst I don’t like misery. I like quick bursts of drama that lead to happiness and reunions. Book 1 satisfied my angst needs enough between the reveal and the end with Murphy. And when I trust an author and know their style, I know things will turn out okay. I’m pretty sure I’ve played all of Sera’s games and I’ve never been devastated like some writers love to make you feel. Most writers would’ve killed Rebecca off I think and I was so happy when she lived. I’m someone who cares about the nameless NPCs in games too. I replay missions all the time because I lose one random guy.

But I can understand if you worry about it. Maybe if it gets to that point and you still aren’t sure, you can skip a book and just get the summary. I don’t think that book 6 and 7 will be that heavy unless you are playing the love triangle.

Let’s be honest. Whatever the angst in book 5, we will most likely have a set relationship with all the ROs. So, I am confident that all that angst will turn into a super strong bonding moment with UB and specially our RO.

Kind of, no matter what, nothing can defeat us as long we are together. And also, I think Sera said that the books will be autoconclusive. So I don’t think we will have unsolved angst leading from one book to the next (except for the love triangle of course).

@EvilChani

Let me tell you something that may or may not alleviate all your worries regarding angst in this series:

Sera doesn’t even want to kill off the car.

I think we’re gonna be ok.

I think they’ll definitely be more difficult, and M’s route will never be particularly soft or fluffy, but I don’t think it will ever be that bleak. From what Sera has said on Tumblr, it looks like A’s romance will be sweet once they get over their hangups and we know that will happen before Books 6 & 7. And M comes to love the detective in their own way.

I really think you’re blowing this a bit out of proportion, friend. I don’t think this is going to be a sad, miserable experience you think its going to be. This is a game where romance is a important factor. Even if we’re not going to be dating A or M for a while in the books there doesn’t mean there won’t be romantic moments. I mean, look what we got in Book 1! In most romance games getting together is where the games ends.

We don’t really know yet how things are going to turn out. Sera might surprise us all and have A being the first one who gets smooched. Maybe F and N’s romances will take longer than we expect. Maybe M will be the first to drop the “I love you” bomb. We have no idea, but even if there’s angst I’m fairly sure that’s not going to be the sole focus expect Book 5, maybe and I’m fairy sure we’re going to have a happy ending.

So just… Calm down a bit, okay? Sera is trying to make us miserable. This is supposed to be a fun game.

I have to agree besides in order to have a long lasting relationship, we have to overcome storms but the rest of the above me said, I don’t think Sera will let us suffer too much.

We are group therapy. All of us telling evilchani to chill and stop worrying so much haha.

Oh men, we are lucky to have someone as amazing as Sera writing this books. It’s going to be a looooooooooong journey, and I am going to enjoy each second of it.

Tbh, something that always makes me smile is thinking how in 7 years time most of us will still be here, gushing together about this fantastic series!

How long till we becomes the oldsters of the fandom complaining about how easy the newbies have it coming in with multiple books out?

I remember when Sera first posted the demo and you HAD to shoot A! Whipper-snappers!

Yeah, I was gonna say that.

Imagine if we had someone like George R. R. Martin writing? Fuck. The angst would be never ending, and we’d also be waiting ten years for book six, lol

I’m looking forward to those moments actually haha.

You youngsters!! Coming to the fandom when book 6 is out! And you dare complaining about having to wait at least a year for book 7?! :older_woman:

@rose-court I don’t want to even imagine this series with GRRM as the writer… Everyone would die. The MC probably killed by their RO that loses control on themselves. Then Rebecca finds out and everything goes to shit even more than it already was.

Just thinking about it is creeping me out.

Goes to the fanwork thread to look at my MC/Felix drawing
