If you read between the story Charles seems such a great king before he starts losing his health. Ended slavery and freed slaves, Foreign nobles mention how rich the capital is, Kept his vassals under his thumb by Force and Favor both.
I genuinely believe the poison affected his ability to rule in later years.
I do agree with that bit. It is very much a common issue for sapphics. Especially when girls are considered, ‘Too hot to not be straight’ annoyance kicks in.
I’ve planned on being nice to Xavier then align with Lena.
After reading several posts. I think I will run with Clara. Sorry Rickie! Thus end up with Clara and Lena.
I’m hoping i can combine Xavier/Clara romance with political marriage with Lena, but who knows. And then there’s also that whole Nicholas deal hanging over MC’s head.
… I don’t suppose we can do political marriage with two rulers. /s
Clara is a sweetie, just a tad too plain for me. Might do a run where my MC accepts her feelings to manipulate her but falls in love at some point. Otherwise, I’m sticking with Nick and hoping I’m allowed more than one lust route with Revna and Jarean.
I think you can do more than one – in my playthrough i was limited to lust route with Nicholas, but then still could pick lust route with Revna, and it was also unlocked for Jarean (though i went with friendship for that one)
I’m just surprised that Matteo said that Richard would turn out to be a bad king. He was right about that but still… I would had expected him to be an absolute bootlicker to his family
I’m assuming you haven’t played the original of this if you haven’t you will most definitely not expect that in future chapters I won’t say why but their is clear hints to it already so I’m pretty confident it’s still the same
According to the author the story is actually going to diverge from the original starting with the next chapter, and it’ll be a different story even to old time readers.
To be fair it was kind of true in the old game despite everyone saying otherwise and his actions in this one make it more so after he learned how father really felt about him and started spiraling since
Freya just refuses to try anything but painting and dating pirates. She’s just a whiner. The worst kind too, the types that see what’s unfair and unjust but do little to nothing to prevent it themselves but believe someone else should do the work.
Richard is a spoilt brat. He’s the only child to receive affection from the King before he was starting getting seriously ill. Chapters like his birthday show that everyone thought he would be the next King. On the other hand, a lot of the affection and praise he grew up with was surface level. The King is the King and Isabella was blinded by grief and revenge. He’d be a decent King if he wasn’t spoilt the way he was to appease his parents’ egos. He wasn’t raised to be a King, he was raised to be the puppet Isabella wanted to get her revenge.
Atheris has a temper issue. In a sane environment, she’d be trained to manage her temper. Instead, those around her encouraged her temper and cruelty to the point her behavior has become near sociopathic. She’s the tyrant the people want. Someone who shows strength through cruelty, and looks down on the common folk. She’s also as equally entitled (and tbh as much of an attention whore) as Richard but didn’t recieve the surface level affection Richard did.
Doesn’t help that our mother is also a vile individual. Atheris also had the unfortunate reality that she was a baby when our mother poisoned Isabella which means that she was raised believing that Richard wasn’t her brother and not a threat with The King indirectly punishing her for her mother’s folly.
TLDR: Entitlement makes poor rulers, MC being the last born and the one with the least expectations to ascend is what saved them.
I was getting more at how no matter how terrible MC you create with your decisions (both skills and personality wise) you still get the crown instead of those 3… but this take works, too :v
“So, for the first year, I’ll go easy on them, lure them into a false sense of security. And then when they think I’m not so bad, BAM! I’ll go full on tyrant on them in the second year.”
insult multiple potential future allies of your kingdom to their faces,
basically abuse your political hostage and potentially piss off his sister (who is also one of your allies),
give several of your own people food poisoning,
blatantly disregard the laws of your own kingdom by letting a thief go (albeit without anyone knowing your identity
insult your own siblings regularly, potentially making them want to betray you (or more likely to in Richard’s case)
alienate yourself from your own royal guards
potentially sleep with someone and raise the risk of having a bastard child out there in a few years
straight up not want the throne
rizz up your brother’s crush
abuse and demean your brother’s crush, who’s also the royal adviser’s granddaughter
And yet somehow you’re the best option.
The only way you’re the best option is if the others are so stupid that they’d sell the kingdom to a warmonger pay a warmonger to invade and pillage the kingdom, then straight up eat the sword
