It seems that in the new version MC is guaranteed to be picked.
To be fair, this streamlines writing quite a bit. Because i’m not sure if there’s that many players who’d be interested in getting to follow another sibling’s orders instead of ruling themselves to begin with, and out of those there’d be likely demands for a path where you can rebel and overthrow them. So that’d be having to cook three different major plot lines.
Well for once it does seem to simplify stuff meaning there will be more drama down the line, last time was brutal though, you can feel the world falling apart in the original everything that goes wrong does goes wrong.
The added content is all amazing. But the removed content? I’m not here for it, to be honest. I can understand wanting to streamline, but if you’re right about becoming heir? I’m extremely disappointed. I loved that the original had so many options. Ruler vs not ruler. Combat vs diplomacy vs knowledge. That stuff is why I loved the original. I feel like it would be a mistake to streamline too much.
It’s Seven kingdoms princesss problems. It’s a visual novel not on this site ,but was talked about alot. It was about a deacde of silent then a few months ago it was back and relesed a week later. It in early acess meaning in not 100% done but you can buy on itch.io
Since I’ve received so many comments about this, I’d like to clarify a few things, and then I won’t touch on this topic again.
I’ve removed the non-ruler path from the main game for several reasons. One major factor is that receiving the rulers’ memories is essential; if the MC isn’t chosen, they won’t gain the necessary knowledge, which could lead to confusion. This would require me to force certain characters to act out of character just to give the information, and I want to avoid that.
Another reason is the extra complexity in plot lines. For example, if I gave the MC the option to rebel or not, I’d need to create an entire rebellion storyline. Even without that option, I’d likely get feedback about limited choices, which is understandable. My goal is to write a polished story, so I’d rather focus on perfecting one path than multiple incomplete ones.
Also, from what I’ve seen, around 80% of players prefer the ruler path, and many who got the non-ruler path reached out, asking how to be a ruler. Writing a separate storyline for only 20% of players would be an immense time investment.
However, I’ve mentioned on Tumblr that I might consider a DLC or side game after the main release where the MC isn’t a ruler. This would allow players to experience that storyline with a full understanding of the events. Completely optional.
As for the diplomacy vs. combat approach, it remains available. If you want to follow a diplomatic path, simply choose not to train in combat skills first. I will add stats to clarify that you don’t have to choose the warrior path. It’s still early in the demo, and there are additional stats and content that I plan to add later.
The diplomacy path is explored after the MC is chosen. Players will have the opportunity to shape the MC as either a warrior ruler or a diplomat ruler, depending on their choices. There are options in the demo for players to express a dislike for fighting, but the full depth of this path mostly unlocks once the MC is chosen. As mentioned, it’s still very early in the demo.
I’d like to remind you that no one in the city knows the MC is the prince/princess, so they have no reason to follow their commands. Because of this, you can either let events unfold, use force to stop them, or offer gold as persuasion. MC’s identity remains a secret, and people won’t obey someone they don’t recognize as part of the royal family.
Thank you for all your comments. I read them, even though I’m mostly active on Tumblr.
I think we may all be getting ahead of ourselves with this speculation. It’s entirely possible that some of the storylines and story aspects may simply have been moved rather than having been wholly removed.
This is a good part of why I think so. And while I dislike even the idea of “ruling” that mess of a kingdom, at least the more knowledge and diplomacy based paths are still going to be included. Of course, without knowing what it is that each and everyone making this remark/complaint is wishing hadn’t changed, I can’t really say this applies to everyone.
The thing about “just don’t train the combat skills for diplomatic path”, since this isn’t really recorded in any manner, there isn’t any reason not to train the combat stats – because this seems to be a way to “have the cake and eat it too”, i.e. character who doesn’t miss out on any diplomacy-oriented skills (compared to what you get if you take non-combat options) so should be just as competent in them when it comes to the checks, but is also skilled in combat.
So yes, having a “diplomacy skill” as something explicit that is raised by taking alternative options to combat training might be useful. Not only to make it more obvious for the player, but also for your own work down the road. Because otherwise it’s going to be pretty much impossible to determine if player with say, 30% combat stat opted for option to learn diplomacy in the beginning, or chose combat there but just skipped on some of the training options offered to them later, ones that didn’t have any “learn diplomacy instead” alternatives.
The author of the story has confirmed removal of some of the content (non-ruler path etc) in the post they made literally just above yours :>
Well damn… That major hint that many aspect of story will change, I don’t remember MC getting a chance to learn new stuff after ascending to throne, everything must be learned before because after coronation the gate of hell is open as one crisis after another hit the kingdom like a flood.
I don’t shy away from a fight but normally I’ll do it if the alternative has been exhausted or the price is too steep or too humiliating to pay.
I can safely say that many aspects of the rewritten story are quite different. Some major events from the original game either won’t happen or have been replaced with new ones, along with many additional surprises. That’s why I recommended forgetting everything about the original game before diving into the demo
Will this rewrite be an update for those who already own it. I think that would confuse those who don’t follow the forum or Tumblr. Making the rewrite a separate book seems better imo
If it’s separate then you run into both legal mess of trying to justify whether it’s different enough or if the author is breaking original publishing agreement, as well as upset those who’d need to pay again for what they feel they paid for already. I’m not sure if the benefit of maybe not confusing people who don’t have interest in two years old game to begin with really outweighs these issues.
Enjoying the rewrite so far, and honestly the removal of the non-ruler path is fine for me. I think it could be interesting to play as an MC who really didn’t want to be chosen.
But as for my preferred path: Even if might end up in failure I’d rather take the merciful and compassionate route and try for change rather than stick by what a Rhivenian “should be”, personally.
I’ll still be pumping up combat skills as much as possible though. Speak softly and carry a really big sword and all that.
That the way i see it too. I assume the assassin attemp will still happen and may or may not be posioning this time since so much has changed. So we will need to be ready just in case.
First of all I just have to say it, The remake is incredible! I never played the original game but I’m OBSESSED with the new version, I Checked your Original page about the original SOR and there were some character portraits for the ROs, can you generate character portraits for all the ROs that don’t have one already?
