It does. I don’t know how that scene changes when you poison the rations, but I highly doubt it will change much.
I am not a historian, just a bloke who likes to leaen about it. In medieval times, such a thing as “a citizen” didn’t exist, because there weren’t any actual borders.
Sure, the nobles and royalty understood the concept of lands that were theirs, lands that weren’t, but to the commonfolk, it was just an arbitrary line that didn’t mean much. Also, in medieval times the power wasn’t centralized in the hands of the monarch, but if I remember correctly, the religious heads had the most power (which our MC technically is, after the death of Charles, but I digress).
The people could move and relocate between kingdoms freely, because no one was there to ensure that they didn’t, nor did they particularly care.
I am actually really interested in this war, because it isn’t so much between rulers as much as religious heads (the Pope vs the Grand Imam, if you will), and in this time it is the closest we will probably get to a world war.
The Pope and Caliphs as far as I know at the time were monarchs in all but name but I agree this is both a fight between divine beings (if that’s indeed what these things are. still suspicious on that front on my end tbh lol) and their head of faiths who just so happen to rule lands.
In regards to the difference between the poisoning during the outside visit (if it ain’t too much of spoilers.. I suspect a few know what happens lol given some of the known dislike for dear Richard) is that you can trick and lie to the commonfolk by pretending to be a gracious ruler or be genuine about it if ya want to go the compassionate route (suspect those options are pretty much the same for if you didn’t do the poison.) but the real fun is they call our mc’s foolish brother names and throw rocks then we return to castle and he calls out us through insulting Atheris (though it’s intended for mc)
Are you even hearing yourself? Think about what you’re doing!
Starting out evil is so boring. Listen, first decade, we go easy, make everyone think we’re not so bad. Second decade, full tyrant mode! They’ll never see it coming, and the feeling of betrayal will devastate them for decades to come; if we play our cards right, we can even destroy trust in the monarchy and topple the royal bloodline, which will ruin Rhivenia in the long term and screw over the entire family, meanwhile we’ll fake our deaths in the ensuing fallout and lay low.
My fellow commenters, I believe there is a better way to ensure both “maybe poor people shouldn’t be instantly executing for complaining” commenters and "i want to kill peasants for defying my rule” commenters can fulfill their goals at the same time.
We can co-exist and frolick in the Meadow! which is why! I, introduce a middle ground that is able to compromise with both of these rightfully just and fair goals, to appease these opposing yet equally correct parties.
Yeah well the civil war is basically non existent right now. No sabotages or anything so it will be while before the sacrifices begin. The original had the same problem. Oh poison but that’s cos our dumb people didn’t make sure the willing prisoner had nothing at all. Hopefully it’s effects will be felt soon to send these heroes(nuisances) to war. Direct their attention to the stuff that actually matters
If the commonfolk enjoy throwing rocks so much we can make a specific unit of soldiers and call it the Rock Throwers (no other weapons but rocks sure they’ll die fast but it’ll prove a point lol)
Ooh, maybe we make a recruitment drive. As the old saying goes, “he who is without sin, cast the first stone.“ In other words, anyone who volunteers get pardoned for any crimes they’ve committed.
We will ge to change the law on thievery, possible payback on the rock throwers and their is not famine. Those issues be talked about recently go this is just to give an update.
