Does it mean Olarion has a chance to get on the throne? If yes, will the MC be able to influence this?
b) Will the MC have a say in whom the siblings will marry?
2a) Is Ysonia suspected to have a lover?
b) How are royal bastards treated?
c) What would be the consequences if the MC’s forbidden romance is exposed?
3a) What are the predominat military and naval tactics in Ophaesia?
b) Is the Royal guard an elite fighting force ot better suited for parades than battles?
Does any air travel technology, like gliders or hot air baloons exist?
5a) What is the name of Ophaesian currency?
b) How much money does the MC own?
@Fawkes I think I found a bug. I tried playing as a boy, and though the text said the MC received gifts such as “boots, belts, a bow, and even a dagger,” the actual choices for a favorite gift were the looking glass, books, and harp. Since Ophaesia is not exactly a gender-neutral world, I assume this is a glitch.
Anything to annoy father dearest, huh? . Still, things should indeed start to get interesting now that the MC has moved out of the nursery and he/she will have the chance to get to know his/her siblings
I don’t think this has actually been asked but does the MC have a shot at becoming king of Ophaesia, or perhaps other places? Kinda taking it for granted that we might have that chance.
Ussualy there’s a main royal army , and vassal armies that are called to arms by the king if needed , so I’m assuming it’s the same thing in Ophaesia , @MrPockets
I’m probably the only person here that doesn’t want the throne. I already hate the MC’s father, but my brothers could be ok. I can see my PC as a reputed academic and a trusted adviser of the crown, making powerful friends in the court, working for a better country, taking every oportunity to spread my atheism, having some hot affairs with liberal foreigners and marrying a bad girl (a redhead preferably, who can resist them?). A good life if you ask me. No throne for me, heavy is the weight of the crown and all that stuff.
I agree, my mc doesn’t want anything to do with the throne. Too much craziness and responsibility involved. He’d rather go off and do his own thing, though preferably as far away from the king as possible!
Fawkes explained that Ophaesia has a standing army and navy, so it seems that the country might be in a transitory state, not a fully centralized state but not a feudalized society either.
Personally I look forward to exploring both aspects - a MC who wants to be involved with the throne, the politics and the court and so on as little as possible, and a MC who thows him/herself into the politics of the court and possibly taking the throne or some such high post for his/her own reasons…
Regarding the gifts, they all felt rather gender-neutral if you ask me, especially the looking-glass… The books feels like the MC’s mother’s attempt at getting her son/daughter to develop in an intellectual direction, and as fo the harp… Well, music has historically been something both boys and girls have been taught (even if it during certain periods has been seen as more a girl-thing than guy-thing). From some of Fawke’s comments though, we’ll probably be seeing a couple more gifts with the next update…
My MC really isn’t sure what she wants right now, taking throne is the farthest thing from her mind, though she might indulge in some mischief at court or behind the scenes. Might cause the King trouble out of spite later on.
It’s been a small eternity since I’ve last logged in, but I just had to after playing this. It’s so beautifully written, and the characters are all so lovely and believable in their own ways. I’ll definitely be following this one with great interest! On the subject of my MC: I’m currently playing someone who is ultimately a kind, caring person, but would try to use the throne and its power to overcome their own feeling of insignificance. Not sure if he would be a good ruler, though.
Personally my MC likes the books best this birthday and while he’s still a kid I think he will remain mostly interested in books and gadgets (the looking glass is a really close second for my canon MC and the favourite of my even more mischievous mc). As he grows older the books will begin to face competition from boots, jewelry and clothes as the kind of gifts he likes most.
I agree, though my mc’s reasons for not really wanting the throne are:
He’d need to marry a woman to father some heirs
Being a good King is bloody hard work @Cataphrak has already mentioned it somewhere but Lious XIV shifting a mountain of paperwork in the early morning is a good example of this.

We think alike then as I really liké the books & the looking glass, even if I haven’t quite decided which of the two is 1 & 2 .
Being a king can be hard work, yes, but you can be a good king without having to extert the kind of control the Sun King did, as you can delegate without making every single damn decision yourself…
