The Fernweh Saga: Book One (Discussion) [šŸ’š Game Update, Post 1214]

OK, now I need to know what are the possible responses to that question! Because my first reaction is somewhat torn between choosing a snarky remark to continue torturing R and the reaction @EvilChani 's Naia would have.

Oh, you evil author, now you’re tempting me to make another MC. You know Kassi is on JR route with J being her first kiss and at the same time on R’s denial path. But I suppose it will be a whole different scene for the trio :slightly_smiling_face:

YO, please admire the commission I had done of Rosalind!!

I got her done by Sofia, whose Tumblr is linked. I’m so happy with her!

Is it canon that the rolling pin is made of the remains of the tree monster?

Oh my gosh, Molly, thank you so much for sharing your comm of Rosalind with all of us!  She’s so sweet and precious, and I absolutely adore her! :revolving_hearts: (Also, thank you for linking the artist’s Tumblr! :sparkling_heart: )

Omg, even with Rosalind’s A+ baking skills, I’m not sure anyone in the know would be able to bring themself to eat something that came into contact with something made from the treeture’s ashes.

Yeah, not sure that would be sanitary but it made me laugh out loud in public. :joy:

@furyleika Thank you for sharing the beautiful portrait of your MC, Rosalind. I love her expression, the cute apron and the rolling pin. I bet she and Sweet Bee :honeybee: would have a wonderful time cooking, or even better baking, together. I believe that she has a star pendant on her necklace? Is this possibly the star charm from the moon/star charms talked about in book 1?

It is so fun and interesting to learn about everyone’s MC(s) and to see a awesome rendering of one is even more amazing.

Yes!! She and B are baking buddies and yes, that’s the friend pendant she shares with J.

I’m most certainly admiring Rosalind; she’s so lovely! :heart_eyes_cat: :black_heart: Thank you for sharing this incredible art with us, Molly. I’m including a section of my tags from Tumblr since I do believe some R-mancers will appreciate it:

#While I’m aware of Rosalind being a ā€˜sweetheart’, I’m unsure if her patience would last with R in the kitchen, lol. #They would listen to her but also be playful. Yes, I instantly imagined R wanting to be the one to tie her apron; elegantly spinning her #around in a slow twirl after it’s perfectly in place. R would /love/ watching Rosalind bake; they admire the MC and their passions.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

There are so many details–from each of the flowers to the friendship charm she shares with J. I’m also on the side of using spriggan-free baking tools, although I must admit I did briefly wonder if the ash would impart a faintly sweet, possibly floral, taste or something else unique. >.> But that question is probably better left unanswered.

I think it’s sweet that she and B are baking buddies; it could give B and R some reluctant bonding time (at least at first), especially once B gets to witness how R would soften for Rosalind.

I see you are a person of distinguished taste. :face_with_monocle: :green_heart:

Oh, I think you should! (Maybe I’m biased, but… it is a unique dynamic that has its own scenes, etc. from the elevator to the tree fight to the departure, etc.) That will be a cool combination, btw! smashes the like button to give R a hug before realizing I’m the one standing in the way of that rn Oh, well, I’m with you all in spirit.

Perhaps, you’ll get that and more in Book Two. :black_heart:

Hmm, I agree that @EvilChani’s Naia’s reaction struck a cord with me as well. I’ll tease and say sometimes actions speak louder than words (even though I know Joy would have a zingy quip ready). I think you’ll have fun with the choice options that follow.

Cowards, all of you. :stuck_out_tongue:

 If it makes you feel better I completely understand why R as a character wouldnt be ready to hug MC yet, but maybe a differnt character could do it on behalf of our petition signers? At this point I would even accept one from the cat.

We may be cowards, but we are still alive!

What was the game update for, precioussss?

She put in a checkpoint system, so you can reload chapters, instead of having to restart the entire game. Because she’s awesome that way!

As always, if you enjoyed your time in Fernweh, please consider reviewing/rating it.

Thank you for your support and for helping me spread the news! :green_heart:

Links to the demo, the platforms to download the game, and TFS Patreon are all in the topmost post! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@EvilChani Thank you for your kind words! Maybe Naia will have some more fun with R.

I wonder…which of the ROs would be most amenable to leaving Fernweh, and which ones would be most amenable to staying?

B is obviously the one most likely to leave (since there is nothing tying them to the town other than ???'s machinations–they are ecstatic on the drive out and devastated when they find out they and MC are trapped), while R would definitely wish to explore the wider world (and I think that they want to but they are unaware of the powers keeping them in the town). I can see S being amenable to leaving with MC, but it would definitely take some convincing (and they would insist on returning from time to time to see their mother). J would probably be resistant to leaving permanently, and I don’t see them wishing to vacation outside of Fernweh or otherwise leave town temporarily, and while there’s nothing wrong with that, I can see that being a strain on their relationship with MCs that want to leave Fernweh ASAP (I did another alternate Arthur playthrough, this time romancing Jane, and his dynamic with Jane felt more…fragile than his dynamics with Becca and Ruby. I suspect that part of it was because Arthur no longer sees Fernweh as his home and is glad to leave after completing his task there, while Jane wishes that his stay was permanent).

I’m not sure how W feels about leaving Fernweh themselves…if they are in fact a real person and not an extension of ???'s will.

So, Rosalind kept her ā€˜part’ of the pendant and is now wearing it. I think that is sweet. I had one MC who threw theirs away and another one who lost it in the fire. I hope this will come up again in the next book.

@JBento I love the use of the precioussss…it reminds me of the gollum gif. :grinning:

YESSSSS! I have already been replaying the chapters and I have found some very interesting insights by looking at text with other choices. I am so glad that I can now replay the chapter and learn/experience different things. Thank you @lacunafiction.

@Snowflower I think your question is both interesting and your responses thoughtful. I agree with your assessment of my sweet Bee and of R. I am not sure about S. I think that he is so devoted to his mother that he would not want to move away from the town. I think he would be amenable to travel for periods of time, but not a permanent move. I am not sure that even his love for the MC would allow them to convince S to leave. @Lambkin is a strong S-mancer whereas I favor Bee and R, so she might have a different take. It could even depend on the MC? Maybe some wouldn’t ever ask him to leave if they feel attached to Fernweh/Mrs. Dorran (probably the best mother-in-law)

J, on the other hand, would leave (I think) if the MC asked him to. He would want to make sure that A is settled/happy in Fernweh or perhaps invite them to move-in with J and the MC. I do agree that J’s dynamic with the MC can be very fragile in the first book. I do suspect, however, that we will have the opportunity (if we choose to) to strengthen that dynamic in the next book.

To me, it seems like S has more happy memories of the town than J, if we take it as a whole?

While I believe that S could be talked into moving (possibly using other supernaturals elsewhere as an incentive—they actually seem excited by the supernatural encyclopedia and figuring out what corrupted the spriggan and I can see MC/S ending up as traveling supernatural investigators), I agree that their life is in Fernweh and they definitely would not agree to leave Fernweh forever or only visit infrequently.

I suspect that J would either seethe/mourn in silence (it takes them a bit to ask why MC never responded to the letters) while going along with an MC who wants to leave Fernweh because they don’t see a life in the town (after ???’s spell is broken), because they don’t want MC to leave them again. Alternatively the thought of leaving Fernweh to establish a life elsewhere (while they would return to Fernweh often to see loved ones, it’s not the same as living there) might be what prompts them to assert themselves even if it means that they might lose MC once more.

As for J/MC’s dynamic, I definitely agree that it depends on the MC. Roz had a rose-colored view of the past (especially her upbringing in Fernweh), and wasn’t entirely opposed to staying longer in the town before she found out that she couldn’t leave, which is why her dynamic with James (and Reese) felt much more natural IMO. I also think that Roz would fit well on a J solo route for that reason. While she’d seek to fight ???’s hold over the town, I’m not sure if she’d leave Fernweh forever after that becomes an option (out of all my MCs she’s the one I can most clearly see reopening the bookstore/cafe and doing well running it herself).
Arthur, on the other hand, wanted to leave Fernweh as soon as his business in the town was concluded (which changed to ā€œas soon as he learned the truth about his grandfather’s deathā€), even though he has a healthy outlook on the past. As the fight with ??? proceeds I can only see him becoming more entrenched in his wish to leave. I suspect that’s why he and Becca, and he and Ruby, fit together so well (Fernweh isn’t Becca’s home either, and Ruby understands Fernweh isn’t Arthur’s home (that and I suspect R wants to leave Fernweh too)). I also suspect that’s why his dynamic with Jane felt so fragile and ill-fitting (and that it was a messy confrontation waiting to happen).

Hello! a question, someone told me there’s no much romance in book 1, whats you guys opinion bout that?

I think it’s accurate. It also makes sense: you spend most of it getting to know the Fernweh residents, and you’re only going to be in town for a short time and the only one who has any intention of leaving Fernweh is B, making ā€œrelationshipā€ an unfeasible expectation.

Makes sense, thanks!
