The Fernweh Saga: Book One (Discussion) [šŸ’š Game Update, Post 1214]

Is Alek going to be a romance option in the series ? because they have the gender choice, which non of the other NPCs have plus you can set their relationship to as crush ??? Like is this going to be relevant later on??

Alek isn’t a RO, here’s an ask about that. A’s relationship dynamics with the MC will certainly matter in future books. I think making A have a crush on the MC adds tension/jealousy for romance routes, you can also set them as having a crush on B for the same reason.

@ChiggerCat @lo6otia @Nemureru_Mori (and anyone/everyone else):
I’m not able to go back and quote all your lovely and wonderful messages, but thank you so much! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I’m really touched by and appreciate all your kind words; it makes me so happy to know the guide has been helpful and that people are enjoying going through it. Like @ChiggerCat said, I also hope that the guide can perhaps entice and/or encourage people to delve (back) into Fernweh for multiple playthroughs, whether because they are dedicated achievement hunters, or because they are intrigued by the different paths and outcomes hinted at in the achievement names (or for other, completely valid reasons); there is just so much to keep drawing everyone into Fernweh.

Aww, thanks. (Please just ignore the tiny devil horns propping up my halo. ) In all seriousness, it’s my pleasure to help out and support TFS and Aelsa in any way I can.

@ChiggerCat Have you had a chance to think more on the hint the JR playlist gives about the JR end-book achievement? (I love reading your (and everyone’s) analyses and theories. ) I’m not sure if this is what Aelsa was talking about:

The name of the achievement (ā€˜Love Moderately’) appears to come from a line in Act II, Scene 6 of Romeo and Juliet:
Therefore love moderately; long love doth so;
Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.

(And I think the theme from the Romeo and Juliet movie is on the JR playlist, so that might be a connection? Perhaps it could be a commentary on the contrasts between their approaches to love, but if they meet in the middle, they have a better chance at happiness together (or something). (And, this probably is a coincidence, but R and J have the same initials as Romeo and Juliet. ))

(Also, I loved Daisy’s ā€˜vote for Bee!’ campaign for the RO poll; there were a lot of persuasive points, but I had already voted for the W. (I wish I could have divided my vote into seven pieces though.))

Talk about owning up to that name you are using!

Wait, what? You didn’t vote for S? After all those times you told us they’re the best and we should try their route? I think S will feel very betrayed. Bad, bad, very bad Tiffy! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

On a more serious note, right now I’m playing Fernweh with my newest MC - Amber Rivera. I’m just entering the cabin for the first time. Amber is starting to shape really nicely so far. She’s a very friendly person and is just starting to realize that she wants from B more then just a friendship.
I’ll tell you more when I make some progress

I Love that last name…for some reasons. It just fit.

I only use Evie Rivera and it just…melt in the story.

I already have a MC called Evie for my evil run, but her surname is Wallis. I have a hard time choosing surnames and Amber Rivera just sounded very nice to me

They are all ā€œthe bestā€ (although Bee is better than all the rest).

You bet! (Everyone keeps talking about these ā€˜red flags’ the W keeps raising, but all I see when I think about them is a rosy pink hue of love. :sparkling_heart: )

Guilty as charged, Your Honor.

Yes, well, they are, but you see—

Oof, yeah, I can’t argue with you there based on their reactions to the W in certain scenes.

I know, I know! (I still love them just as much though, I promise! :blue_heart: )

I love her name, and I’m excited to learn more about her!

She is indoctrinated…

HALP!

Hello Returning Visitors!

I wanted to share a link to a post: here, that shares why I named the series the way I did. It’s best to click it after having played through the game at least one time. @EvilChani was especially perceptive to have already done some research on the town’s name; she shared insight on it as well. :evergreen_tree:

Sidenote: This is a random thought, but S’s friendship guide might be interesting for readers to look at considering how some choice options can result in loss of affinity when S sees how you’re treating someone other than them. For instance, if the MC is harsh to R, then S takes note and reevaluates their opinion of the MC. It fits with their character and how Mrs. Dorran raised them. I liked adding that detail!

I agree that @Lambkin does live up to her name; hopefully, the W sticks to leather rather than anything fleece-lined. :relieved: (I’m kidding; I doubt they would do that considering how sweet your MC, Marcie, is.) Speaking of MCs, I have noticed that quite a few use the last name of: ā€˜Rivera’, which has been interesting to spot the trend across here and on Tumblr. @lo6otia I’m eager to learn more about Amber; she sounds vivacious!

Wishing you all the best. :green_heart:

Hi Luna!

And she didn’t tell me? That rascale! @EvilChani Hear mah Butthurt! Lol

Personally, I find the word ā€˜Fernweh’ a mouthful. But when I though about it, a long time ago…before the game was released.

All I could think of was…Fernweh could had tie to Indigenous peoples. You add the whole ā€˜Creepy’ vibes, I was sure we were going into that old ā€˜Burial Indigenous Ground with Sacred Totem that were defiled, and now you all gonna pay for this sin!’

My MC: Raze Sevyn has a playful, absolutely sarcastic and Flirtatious demeanor, forever lifting spirits, heating up the moment and causing the occasional eye roll; though sometimes it’s obvious, his jokes aren’t appreciated. Yet behind that, people that interact with him have probably noticed that Raze carries a certain… detachment? with him. Which is seen through his aloofness, Never sharing or showing emotion in situations where most would and refraining from expressing his thoughts when most needed. He likes to be independent, preferring to work alone and think with his head; always taking control when he can. But under that ever stoic and practically aloof aura, sometimes something darker cracks through…quite off putting and confusing for those closest to him; an ever cruel nature- a surprising opposite to the usually playfully humorous and aloof Raze Sevyn of Fenweh.

So yeah, I’m finally playing the full game right now!! Currently on Chapter 7 and all I have to say is; If I was a character in this book, i’d be utterly wary of my MC. He’s so hot and cold. You never know what you’ll get.

Summary

I’m disturbed by him just reading, yet It was me who made him this way.:joy: He’s such an ass. No matter who it is, he goes for the throat right off bat…unprovoked. Bro has not an ounce of respect for anybody except Becca and Alek (maybe even James). Plus, he never takes anything serious. Sigh But I can’t say my MC doesn’t have his charms, he’s dependable and will always be there for those he cares deeply about. Nobody else matters though. Is that a good or bad thing, who’s to say?

What are Y’all MCs like ?

Goodness! I think you put it all together, @Lambkin. I had narrowed it down to a few songs with that being one of them after listening to the playlist more; however, I am now intrigued by how it links to Romeo and Juliette. That quote from the play must be significant. I could see it referencing how J and R choose to love since this matches how they differ (cautious versus reckless, old money versus farm boy/girl, childhood friend versus a rival, raven haired versus platinum blond (@EvilChani @lo6otia I added that one for you two), siblings versus only child). My mind is blown!

I never realized how different they are until now. I cannot quote what you said about meeting in the middle–I do think this is a good point. I feel that the first initials being the same may have actually been purposeful from what we have all seen of Aelsa; @Nemureru_Mori’s name meanings post comes to my mind.

Daisy will always do her best for her sweet Bee!

That rhymes while still being kind to the other LIs, which Bee would appreciate. It should now be our official Bee romancer slogan.

@lacunafiction That post is very interesting! I had always wondered about the name; you must have had it in mind prior to writing, because it aligns with the story. @E_RedMark I pronounce it ā€œFernā€ like the bush and then ā€œweighā€ like to measure something; I am unsure if that is the German way since it could have more of a ā€œVā€ sound with the second part.

@Shenice_L I liked reading about your MC. He has a lot of layers from wanting to uplift people’s spirits and being flirtatious while also having a bit of a dark side. This reminds me a bit of my MC Jasmine who sometimes uses humor to hide how she is truly feeling about situations or people–it is sometimes easier to earn a laugh then address what is going on. (I was also a little selfish and wanted to see the snarky options after having played more sincere or friendly with my past MCs.) The MC who is most developed for me is most likely my MC Daisy, who was also my first MC to enter Fernweh and romance her sweet friend. She’s an utter sweetheart, possibly a little naive in a way that worries Bee about how she views the world through rose-tinted glasses, including the past, along with being generally positive and outgoing. She tends to be more compliant. I won’t say too much about that stat yet since you’re in chapter 7 right now.

I found this aspect of Raze to be curious. The fact that Alek is spared from his sharp words must have some sort of backstory, I suspect? Perhaps because Alek used to look upon him favorably as a role model, so there is a soft spot for him compared to the other characters or Raze just likes Alek’s disposition more. He can be endearing.

At the beginning I thought that Fernweh was a made-up name, so not knowing how to pronounce it, I just called the series ā€œFern Sagaā€ Then I finally decided to check this word on the internet, and found out that it’s a German word, pronounced like ā€œfern-veeā€. Even though I know how to pronounce it now, I still sometimes affectionately call it ā€œThe Fern Sagaā€ in my head, sort of like a pet name

I know some German, so I could recognize it as a German word from the beginning. And that’s why at first I thought @lacunafiction is Deutch
My MC Joy’s surname is also a German word - Feuer (meaning fire)

Hmm, speaking about meeting in the middle - I can easily see MC being in the middle (in more than one way :smiling_imp:), so the two very different types can be united by their love for MC.

OK, I’ll admit that Bee is precious. I wish he had more confidence, that’s the thing I don’t like in B’s romance. Amber is giving him all the flirty remarks and he’s just looking around to see whoever she’s flirting with :joy: No, Bee, there’s no one else here…

I knew from the beginning that B is perfect for a best friend and I get all of you who are in love with his character. I’m just not into shy, non-confident people. As I said earlier - bold, flirty, sarcastic and dark-haired = perfect RO
Also I’m not into the friends to lovers trope, I’m much more into rivals to lovers one, so R’s route is just perfectly splendid for me.

You’re spot on, she is! I’m halfway through the game, when I’m done, I’ll give you all the juicy details, as always

@Shenice_L , your MC sounds like someone very dangerous. I have a similar MC for my evil run, but she’s feeling more confused, betrayed and not wanting to let people close to her. You can find more about her and my other MCs in my older posts in this thread

Gasp! What a naughty thought! * clutches pearls while vigorously nodding in approval * :joy:

I’m actually wondering if J and R would have dated each other without the involvement of MC. Maybe MC is the missing piece of the puzzle, so to speak, who brings them all together? Let’s ask our guru, @lacunafiction :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah, I think you’re right about MC being the missing puzzle piece. In my opinion J and R are both too stubborn to act on their feelings without our MC bringing them together.

Count me in on this feeling as well. I think the draw is still there between them–my first run through the game, I had gotten the impression that the two of them were getting closer with each other than with the MC, but I felt like the MC was the catalyst for it.

I still need to do a run with the poly, but every time I start to play again, I end up playing Naia so I can get more of a feel for her. And because… Reese. :heavy_heart_exclamation:

I know what you’re talking about. It’s very hard to resist Reese’s charm
