The Abyssal (WIP) - 11/23 DEMO Update. Play as death itself!

What will death look like

Thank you, some others could be Patience or maybe Compassion and Empathy if that isn’t already the dominion of another god/goddess. OH or Memory/Remembrance, cause of the memories of the deceased being held close by those they leave behind

Hey,
I wanted to say I played your demo and i loved it. Can’t wait for the next update and actually maybe interacting with other characters in the game. :joy:
Its not set yet, but rn i plan try to play a character who takes no bull from others. Not being entirely veagencefull but also not forgiving. Just, u know, having an iron first on everything. If it’s possible to play like that ofc.

I read u are searching for positive domains the Abyssal could take. Ice could work as opposed to fire, bc ice is also a form of death. It’s the standstill of life. But it’s not really an positive thing, more neutral.
How about Judgment? Bc at death, everyone is the same? Or Freedom, bc while death might feel like the end for ppl, it’s also freeing of the responsibilities and rules of life and society.
Dreams would be also interesting.

Will we be able to install ourselves as the king of the gods? and what’s the max number of gods we can kill? Finally, why does Death not know the extent of his abilities?
On another note, what’s Quaboth doing presently(right before the time of the demo)? Are Quaboth’s relations with the other gods still okay?

Really anything could be a dominion. Such as gaining dominion over insects, showing death is natural and with death brings new life. You could have a holiday as a dominion things like, Halloween, Christmas, day of the dead, or whatever this universes holidays are. Perhaps even seasons like fall or winter. Or even something very specific like a subcategory of something, like blood magic, lycanthropy, protecter of hearth, guide too the lost.

Will it be possible to choose what type of deformity we have on our face? Because I have imagined my MC with a serious burn on his face, a scar or without one of our eyes, whether it be a milky color or flat, no eye inside the eye socket or even more seriously part of our face has Been torn apart and as a result we have part of our face bone exposed.

I imagine my MC with three possibilities of how it could be seen:
the first is that a quarter of our face has the bones of its face exposed with a half of the forehead without skin and without meat accompanied by the empty eye socket underneath. Of that half exposed in pure bone of the forehead,
the second possibility is to have one half of our face exposed in pure bone with one of the empty sockets
and finally have our entire face without skin with exposed bones and have the sockets empty.
In all these possibilities we will continue to have sight like the others despite not having eyes thanks to some kind of magic of ours that helps us deal with that inconvenience of having empty sockets, we can also choose to show the new appearance when we escape or hide it with some full mask or eye mask or use some kind of magic to help us hide that deformity by hiding our deformity with a magical veil that simulates our face before they will cause us that deformity for eternity, it will influence the way in which we Let’s relate to others and our reputation and even choose to show the facial deformity to our RO as a sign of confidence and show what some of the gods of the pantheon did to us. Forgive me if this is too long.

@DariaRF Hahah let’s see if can make that a reality
Your idea for a ā€˜good’ dominion is amazing, I can see being implemented in a cool way!! Thank you

@jefaulmann Death cannot purposely sever their connection to the great river, because in essence they are one, however, a divine with access to the river could partially disrupt this connection. Death has almost complete control over all aspects of death, but they are still bound to fate as every other divine. The knowledge that if Death or Sol dies reality would crumble came from the creator themselves, that taught every furyan and abyssal god the laws of the universe in the moment of their birth.

@jefaulmann I have to say that justice would be very appropriate for Death, particularly after what was done to them! All the ideas are great tbh!! Thank you so much

@Kagerou_Dayz666 I lovee the idea of a very empathetic Death!! Thank you for the ideas, they are soo good!! :relaxed:

@JackRedcap Hii, so so happy you liked it!! :hugs:
I think ice is very tied to water, which is Chamion’s dominion, however coldness is already tied to Death in some way, since one of the consequences of Death’s aura is to rob the area around them of all warmth. The responsibility of the judgment of the souls falls to the three judges already, their lore and story will be discussed further in the book. Freedom is a very cool idea though!! Thank for the tips :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@Nadelesc In a way you were already the ruler of the gods if you choose to romance Sol, but if that will be the case in the present it remains to be seen! About the number of gods you can kill, I think that would be too much of a spoiler hah. No divine fully understands the complete scope of their abilities, since it wasn’t explained by the Creator they have to learn for themselves.
Quaboth’s point of view of Death’s liberation from prison will be posted on my patreon, but it will be explained in later chapters, and their relationship are still good, don’t worry hahah.

@Frankex_2272 I love the ideas!! I thought about letting people choose the extent of the deformity but I thought it would be very hard for me to code all the possibilities, and it would be better, in my opinion, to have all MC’s with the same level of past trauma, if that makes sense…? You will be able to hide your deformity with magic or a face covering, like a mask or a veil, so don’t worry!

What happens if we don’t hide our deformity and show it to people would they be scared :scream: n the game of story like

Still, will we be able to like, select from only 2 or 3 options that would all have more or less the same ā€œlevelā€?
I for example am REALLY not fond of the whole skeletal deal, since I consider it makes way too clichƩ for Death, and honestly only makes me think of the Ghost Rider, not in a good way
I’m all for actual ā€œnormal’ishā€ mutilations or things like that though.

Surprisingly, not a fan of that, personally?
Again, this is only my opinion and I’ll conform anyway, but yeah… Even if masking it would be possible, I’ll still KNOW about the skeletal parts, not to mention they still would be there even if hidden, and it would bother me a lot. Or well, at least if it’s on the face. If some other parts of the body are skeletal, I don’t mind at all.
Though if I’m to be honest, when you first told about a deformity, I imagined huge ugly scars, and now I can hardly unsee it, so I guess it also plays a role in me being bothered by the skeletal ideas.
And I know you didn’t confirm it would be that, eh! Just commenting because a lot of people seem to like that specific idea.

EDIT: ah, an afterthought because I’m not bothered by the principle of having a scarred MC so I didn’t even think about that at first, just about that specific deformity idea that’s circulating at th moment, but I’m pretty sure on the long run, a lot of players won’t be happy having a MC with a deformity and could find it triggering in various degrees. So definitely, I think being able to choose between two or three options would be for the best, so more squeamish people can select the one that bothers them the less. It’s one thing to have the theme of death very present in a game, and a different thing to have a MC who has been severely scarred.

Wells they can also be burns on the face or body.

Well yeah, I like characters with burns, so I’d be fully up for that. But that’s why I’m saying still having SOME choices would be nice, even if it’s only two or three for coding simplicity.

Not to mention, with Death’s magic, I feel like they could actually select which scars make them feel the more okay. Something could prevent them from actually ā€œhealingā€ the thing, but they could decide how it appears. Not masking, but actually what form the ā€œscarsā€ take.

I rather exposed this vision since it would be interesting to imagine the MC as a walking corpse seeking revenge and that bony appearance on his face influences the gods and mortals to fear him more because of that undead aspect.

Oh yeah, certainly… but mine won’t seek revenge, only acceptance and to prove others wrong about imprisoning them. I’m planning on playing a very benevolent deity, so it’ll be already bad to have disfigurement of any sort since it might scare people, but the skeletal option (or anything truly undead looking) would be the worst

Depends on the author really. We can either have many and varied deformities that wont mean anything to the story, or very few ones that will. I personally prefer the later. Even if I am also not very interested on the skeleton form.

If our head was on fire I would be fine with it lol

Would not be so bad really. You can see it as a challenge. I mean, you have to be REALLY benevolent for people not to be afraid of a talking skeleton.

Well, like you, I also want to play as a benevolent death god but still have that kind of veiled look since I imagine a plot where we show others the marks of what the gods did to us and if we have a good reputation among mortals and some gods including the RO will feel sorry for our suffering and will have more reasons to want to support us in our search for justice and restoration of our honor.

I mean, I’ll quote myself here

That being said…

I can get the idea eh!
But it’s really not for me. Again, I don’t mind scarring, even very severe. I just really really don’t like the whole skeletal thing, and the challenge wouldn’t make it interesting enough for me. Now, keep in mind this is about the head/face. As I said, I don’t mind some other regions of the body to be skeletal. For example if you look at Lif and Thrasir from Fire Emblem Heroes, they are so damn gorgeous!

Yup, one thing that’s certain is that it’ll depend on the author!
But I’m also in favor of very few ones that will have an impact. I was just worried about the author saying they may not allow players to choose the extent of the deformity. And while not being able to choose the extent is something I don’t mind, I’d still like to be able to select the type of deformity, among a couple of choices of the same level.

About the deformity, it’s permanent no matter which form Death chooses to take right? Say if Death chose to be a cat for some :sparkles: espionage :sparkles: would the disfigurement still be there in flesh that has to be hidden somehow if they choose to hide it?
