I’m having trouble betraying the would be emperor in chapter 2 I think? Possibly because I’m passing too many skillchecks. Like, I find the spy, I trick the spy, I fail to interrogate the spy, my master does it, I get past without wearing the mask. I decide that I resent having to chose between the two and want a third option. I get to the tent and start copying and forging notes. I meet the would be empress and intimate that I’d like to help her. But then the text just kinda skips, like I’m told I successfully copied stuff and my master’s very happy. Nothing about how I’m supposed to help her.
I did fail to persuade Chang Ming not to go back though, is that the issue? My master had already killed everyone when we get back though, we weren’t needed one way or another. I know she CAN succeed at killing the emperor because I’ve failed at infiltrating the camp before. But I want credit for helping putting her on the throne. Which checks do I have to fail and which do I need to succeed at? And why isn’t it clear how exactly I’m helping her?
I remember seeing on here that you can have kids can you not have them when you marry YQ? Bc I would like my kids to succeed me although I haven’t finished the game I’m just at the part when you choose an heir after crowned

@SharpOne@TwoSharp Is the variable tracking Mongketani’s opinion of you supposed to have more skill checks attached to it? Unless I’ve missed something, the only instance of it being used (that I can find) is during her potential death scene in Chapter 7. However, the scripting for this scene is written in a way where it’s unlikely to trigger in the first place. Even though the the “MO” variable is created starting at 20, the scene refers to it only being able to exist as three states, numbered 1 to 3.
@Nathan_Wolverton Maybe your version wasn’t updated yet? I did several play tests of the latest update and got it every time. There is now in the game some text that states how much support you have with YQ herself, the court and the army and it will tell you if you have enough to pass. If you continue to have trouble submit a feedback/bug report so I can see the choices/lines where the issue may be happening. Also, YQ and the PC cannot have kids before her death. Her reign is relatively unstable and she didn’t fully trust you, so, it would have only happened if she had lived (which is impossible).
@Fredwary I looked into that and the code wasn’t accounting for a hidden variable so if you also persuaded CM you would get the third emperor on the throne; in essence you have to do all the things instead of some of them right now. The fix will go through with the next update.
@OutlawedDrifter Thanks for catching that! We found the error and we will get that fixed when we send the next update.
@limo_rotenstern Glad you’ve had fun with the game! When the game was released we got a lot of feedback that it was too hard so we gave some free points in one of the updates resulting in some fails being impossible.
@hizekiy Personality stat check, you can surprise/frustrate him, but he’ll always get the better of you. Choice 1: honorable >=60 AND composed <=40 Choice 2: altruistic <=40 AND stern >=60 Choice 3: honorable <=30 AND stern <=30 (I will be updating this last one, it should be 40 not 30. For good endings, joining him and surviving the onslaught of attempts on your life will get you the most positive outcome for the both of you if your goal is staying together.
@BlaiseB This was a mistake on our part. The stat should be MO_res which is set in chapter 5. The MO relationship stat was going to be implemented as she was going to be a bigger part of the story but we ended up cutting it. We’ll fix this in our next update.
@resuri08 The other choices are hidden based off yongshi type and if you managed to successfully complete other tasks leading up to this. (Like stealing the uniforms or staying mounted).
How do you get Liu Yuan to become the next heir (instead of Liu Ying)? I figured it would be similar to becoming the heir yourself so I followed the guide.
On my latest attempt I had full support from the Emperor (LB), married Liu Yuan, and had full support from the court and army and Liu Ying was still named the heir. Do I need to get 1 more Empress support as well?
@TwoSharp
Found a bug in Chapter 5; when investigating the rebellion, you can’t ever go on the mission to find out the truth even after investigating all avenues. It doesn’t recognize you successfully investigated the palace. That’s because of this typo in the game’s code. palace1 should be palace.
@TwoSharp Bug in Chapter 5: When XY/LB is emperor and you’re trying to become the heir, just killing the consort won’t get you empress support. Blackmail does, though, so killing the consort becomes completely pointless (there’s a check for blackmail + killing consort, but marrying + blackmail works and you have to marry anyway).
I think that’s due to misplacing parentheses on this line:
If you work the logic out and simplify, the underlined line is just equivalent to if ((court_app =true) and (empress_bm =true)).
I think you meant to place the parentheses like: if (((court_app =true) and (empress_k =true)) or ((court_app =true) and (empress_bm =true))), which means you can get empress support by royal marriage + either killing consort/blackmail.
@RiceCat I updated the throne guide for chapter 5 with how to get all heir options on the throne (and get credit for it). For Liu Yuan you need 2 emperor tasks, 2 court tasks, all 3 army tasks and 1 empress task.
@asinphi Thanks for catching that I’m not sure how that ended up happening for the palace variable but I’ve update our files and it will go out with the next update we send to COG. Same with the parentheses line.
@Yen_Lag Chan Ming does not like to show enemies mercy and he likes it when you don’t either (generally). Being violent gets points with him, but he also wants to be included, fighting or in conversation, and he likes when you take him into consideration and are not dismissive of him.
@Mo_b1 Here’s the Chapter 4 civil war guide. Yes you can betray Liu Bang and still become emperor, but you need to be an active and successful part of the betrayal. Generally your type of Yong Shi does make or break the game; it can help you bypass stat checks here and there though. Here is the throne guide for chapter 5 as well.
First time using this site so hope I’m posting this right, think there maybe a glitch on the Chan Ming romance? Said that we were kissing and super happy and intimate but a small paragraph in the middle of the page still had the rejection dialogue he says when you don’t manage to romance him, lol wasn’t a big issue I was just confused xD
