Hello, I’ve been quietly developing a game, and I hope this is a non-issue. One of my game’s RO’s is gender selectable, with the male version being a monk named Brother Judah and the female being a nun named Sister Judith. COG recently posted about a character using the same name and title, and I’m worried that I should change my character’s name because of that.

Is your game having a similar title and premise? If not, then keep the name.

I wouldn’t worry, I don’t think it’s an issue. If you want to change the character’s name go ahead, but don’t feel you have to.

I think the only time when you ought to change a name is when the name is either a IRL celebrity, or a household-name in fiction.

At one point, there was a running joke on the forums about how many games had a character named Morgan. I’d say it’s no big deal. However, if you want help brainstorming a different name, there’s always the monthly writer’s thread.

If the name and title are the only similarities and your character is distinct in other ways, you likely don’t need to worry. However, if it concerns you, consider changing the name to avoid any potential confusion.
