Just tag @Cecilia_Rosewood @Silhuetta
I can confirm that @Pace675’s method works. It only took me 9 minutes to figure out someone tagged me.
I should probably hang out at the forum a bit less often…
Anyway, either send me a PM with what you want the first post changed to, or post it here and tag me in the message.
Well,if it’s a psy power there’s always the traditional headache-nosebleed/coughing blood combo.
“Use” may be an innapropriate word knowing that precognition is mostly a passive power, but I get what you’re saying.
Here are some more exemples of powers :
“Phasewalking” - Force fields - Resonance - Commanding - Hematomancy - Time control - magnetism/metal contol - polymorphism …
For the mc, their drawbacks will be showcased from the beginning(at least in the first chapter).
It’s kind of like a give and take situation- whatever powers your mc gains, they lose something of equal or similar value.
Most of the MC’s powers will the passive and somewhat uncontrollable until they figure out how to harness it.
Finally edited the front page- phew.
I feel hyped up to play this again if you need someone to help you with new content I could take a look and give you some ideas to work with or you could do that later with the community I just can’t wait to play this again.
Can’t wait to play this again
So are the powers going to be tied to our handicap?
Yep, they will be.
As an example, the more the MC uses their powers, the more they will potentially harm the MC.
That way, it kind of puts a limit on the MC’s powers, so that they aren’t to OP from the get go.
I remember one of the weaknesses being vertically challenged… it seemed like less of a handicap then the rest. Is that going to be balanced?
Me wonders, vertically challenged hmm
What qualifies? Below 4 foot tall, 3, 2?
I could see some problems below 3 foot/1 meter
In combat reach would be a issue and I think there would be other issues too
Yes, it will be balanced. Like all the other handicaps, there will be things that the MC won’t be able to do(at least, not with ease). There will be things that the MC can attempt to do to overcome their disabilities.
@Drakeye, I haven’t assigned a specific height yet, but I am thinking at least under four feet. Yes, combat will be difficult if you’re that small. And a lot of mental and psychological harassment will play into this role.
If I may suggest a power and a repercussion from using it… what about umbrakinesis - the manipulation of shadows? The more an MC uses it, the more they risk turning/getting stuck as a shadow. It may or may not be something I’ve given thought to before.
From a little snippet I’d written long ago:
“Extended use results in hands and feet turning black, as if they’d been dunked in a vat of oil. Further use results in the veins turning black, giving the appearance of being strikingly ill accompanied by physical aches varying in severity. Pushing these powers any further puts them at risk of becoming stuck in the shadows.”
Ahh yes, psychological warfare as I called it when I was in highschool. Effective and if your good at it easy to learn people’s off switch. (Was heavy tall and quite had to learn to be mentally evil to bullies nothing like making the resident bully cry before he can hit you)
I can see the torture this could do to the character
Hm, interesting. So, at one point, would they become half-shadow and half-human?
theorizing intensifies
But the one problem that I find with elemental abilities, specifically light and darkness, is the effect that they have on the human body.
Being able to control shadows would restrict a person’s mobility, and could possibly lower the temperature in a room?
That’s about all I have.
@Drakeye, yes. A lot of mental torture, along with the fact that a lot of people will refuse to take the mc seriously. Which, in its own way, can act as a double-edged sword.
Light sensitivity, thinning or, or transparency of mind in the shadows with lack of concentration
Light could work, as it can have some serious effects on the human body. Maybe instead of umbrakinesis, the mc could control the amount of light in the room or area? That way they can make use of both light and dark.
In theory, I’d say yes. The fact that their powers deal with the intangible while their human form is tangible have two conflicting… states of being. That’s why I always assumed passing past a certain point would start to become painful. At least when it comes to light-based powers, the MC could act as a sort of… battery. What happens when you overheat a battery? It explodes.

What do you mean by mobility? I’d say during the day, that would certainly be the case, but at night? At night, I’d say they had enhanced mobility more than anything, particularly the further along they are in becoming less human. And I suppose they could lower the temperature of a room if they shrouded it in darkness, but even then… I don’t think it’d be an immediate cold. You take away the source of light and warmth and it’d be a gradual decline, not flatout, methinks.
My question in the context of the story is: are the repercussions permanent? In the original idea I had, if the MC were to stop using their powers 100% for a few days, the effects would start to slowly revert as their physical, human form would ‘restore’ itself.
So any ability we chose it will somewat backfire on our Mc.
Surprisingly that actually is still shadow manipulation just in its true sense. It’s just being able to pull all darkness from the light. True shadow manipulation can even unrestricted create intense light. Most don’t have both sides though
That would be amusing to write. Little MC parts everywhere. ![]()
In this part, I was thinking about the MC’s potential opponents. But now you have me thinking about something else…
Yes and no. As long as the MC stays within the normal limits of their power, the damage that is done can normally be reversed.
But if they happen to come across somebody who is stronger than them and decide to fight them with all of their strength, then…anything is game.
Though I will try to avoid having the MC die, as I know how annoying it is to have to restart from square one.
