Switching off of Vanilla Forums?

The format doesn’t seem as simple and neat but will do. Plus it does have more utilities

I know nothing of the technical stuff, but if the new forums would allow for custom signatures for posters (including details like published works, WIPs, forum join date) that would be cool and very helpful, especially for newbies.

NodeBB looks intriguing and pleasant, plus we can keep the same appearance we’ve all come to know and love, (or at least keep it similar, maybe add some cool changes) plus IMO is EXTREMELY bland, unlike the users of CoG, and would not go over well, tis is just my opinion though.

*Discourse is EXTREMELY bland, sorry my laptop is spasming out, I need to do more maintenance, haha

@dfabulich I tend to prefer invsionboards myself. Since I used it in the past (easy learning curve easy to change styles and what not) and the support and services are pretty good, their rates might be inline for you too.

@HornHeadFan
Most of these solutions will provide all of those :slight_smile:

@WiReDcHiMpAnZeE
It is rather bland, but I think they’ve pretty much made their up minds about Discourse now.
A customized theme will likely make a lot of difference though, so we can look forward to that.

@Pace675
That looks half-decent too, a quick Google suggested that Nvidia’s geforce site uses it?

@WiReDcHiMpAnZeE Is Discourse any blander than Vanilla or phpBB? All forum software kinda looks the same to me…

Well in my opinion, yes it is a lot blander, personally in my opinion phpBB is the blandest of all, I personally like the Vanilla, and think it is very un-bland even with its bad security and other bugs. But I think we should switch off of vanilla as the problems have been occurring even more than normal lately and we should switch to a new forum software that allows a similar appearance and better security, etc… like Invisionpower, which I am going to have to thank @Pace675 for showing as it looks pretty good for our dilemma. don’t give me too much thought though as I am only a very small portion of the community and there is many many more people who use this forum on a daily basis.

Yeah gotta agree with wired on that one, it is a lot similar to vanilla and i would vote this over discourse.

Geforce seems ok as well

@WiReDcHiMpAnZeE Yes looks like the old version of invisionpower, it is hard to tell with amount of custom-ability the software has.

All I could offer in advice is have @dfaublich play with their free boards to see if he likes it.

But tis a big decision so I will pipe down now since I added my 2 cents in.

@jukesy1992 Can you also check out InvisionPower?

Hello everybody! Julian from NodeBB here. I’m a little sad that I didn’t discover this thread until today, when one of your visitors took a look at our marketing page, with a referral from here :slight_smile:

On the other hand, it’s really exciting to hear that you guys are thinking about different forum solutions. I know there are lots of polarised opinions about our design, but it is mobile-first (unlike Discourse, which didn’t put much emphasis on it until recently) and our theming engine is very powerful, allowing you to turn our default theme (https://community.nodebb.org) into something really different (http://convoe.com).

Give me a shout at sales@nodebb.org, let’s talk :slight_smile:

You guys seem like a really great bunch, so migration would be free of charge, and I can probably swing some sort of discount your way if you sign on.

Yeah, found this the same way was Julian above. Was bored so decided to browse warhub’s server logs. Glad you think it looks nice, although I changed it a bit since then.

Ok I know this discussion may be old/about to be closed but for the record:

NodeBBs mobile layout is terrible, and the amount of scrolling takes it’s toll. On top of that their convoe.com website crashes Safari on my iPhone several times (still didn’t get it to work).

Compared to Discourse, I like Vanilla’s layout slightly better but I wouldn’t mind switching. Seems faster with less layout issues, but I haven’t tried it on my PC yet.

In summation please don’t go with NodeBB. Sorry NodeBB guy.

Edit: Actually I really liked InvisionPower a lot! That would be easy on the eyes.

I’m curious now as to what has happened/is going to happen. Any update?

Personally I like VBulletin and Discourse.

After some negotiations with InivisionPower and Discourse, we’re very likely to switch to Discourse, soon. (I want it to be this week or next.)

Will the content of these forums be ported over or will we be starting afresh? There’s a lot of interesting discussions here and I’d hate to lose them.

Guaranteed we’ll do a migration. I care about that a lot.

Fantastic. Thanks.

Have you looked in to Simple Machines Forum?
It has good features and allot of documentation.
