I always wondered how to get the eye perk thanks for telling where I could get it. I’m gonna do both navy and merchant to see what happens.
Thanks and I’m loving the game!
Deck Officer Finale Underway
Technically you can call that a pun, because when a ship is not docked and moving in official terms it’s underway. I had a very refreshing vacation and now I look forward to getting back to writing. I did make some minor tweaks and edits to improve existing content, but nothing worth having an official update post about.
My work schedule is going to fluctuate a lot in the next two months. At times I will be wildly busy and will likely not have time to write, other times I may have multiple days with nothing to do but write. So I can’t gage when the Deck Officer finale will likely be done by, it’s still early days.
In the mean time though think long and hard about what path you want to be next, Ship Builder or Colony Ship. I think I’ll post a poll next week with more information about each path. The poll will stay open as long as I’m working on the deckie finale, to give everybody a chance to vote, ask questions and express their opinions. I’d love to see some fiery debates in here! I want to hear opinions and I want to see some passion!
Cheers!
Good luck making this final navy path. Making a poll for the other 2 jobs is the best way to go so you know what people want next. Damn that’s a lot of paths and only half are done and the real story hasn’t begun yet. I hope it doesn’t overwhelm or cause burnout doing that many roles.
I keep getting this error on each of the choices for the parents on the CoG demo link, wasn’t sure if it’s just me or the demo
You just need to reload, it’s been updated. Sorry for that.
This one please. I like the idea of a corpo playthrough.
I’d like to second a preference for the Ship Builder path as the next one to be explored.
Sounds like it might be very interesting to have to navigate a company atmosphere; and as far as I can guess it’s markedly different from the others paths in that you might be staying in one place for most of it rather than traveling aboard a naval or merchant vessel.
I’ve returned from the abyss!
As I expected it to be September was super busy for me, but October should be freer and offer more time for writing. I apologize to the Deckie fans that are still waiting due to my busy September schedule I’ve only scratched the surface on the Deckie finale. I’ll be sure to update you when I’m closer. I greatly appreciate your patience.
Below I will launch the poll to decide what path I take on next. It should stay up until the Deckie finale comes out and I hope to jump into writing the top voted path soon after. But once again have some patience.
I will reiterate again, so it’s clear. The Deckie finale will be the next update. That will close the Navy path. After I’m done with that I’ll check the results of the poll and get started on the first update for that path.
Cheers!
What should the next path be? More info below. I encourage you to not only vote, but to discuss amongst each other and ask any questions you may have!
- Ship Builder
- Colony Ship
Good to hear. Any update is good. I already voted but I don’t mind which gets done first. Time to find out what people want next after deck.
Colony Ship Info
Every Colony starts with a Colony Ship. A massive flying settlement that journeys across space and lands on a newly terraformed world. People traveling on these vessels in search of a new life on another world, can come from all walks of life. It’s not unusual for a skilled person or a person with a rare vocation is recruite and paid top dollar to relocate to a new planet. Of course you’ll find plenty of dreamers too. There’s just something about newness isn’t there. Getting in at the ground floor, building something out of nothing. In a way every new colony has limitless potential. But of course there’s the desperate, there’s the people running from something, there’s the bloodsucking opportunists and all manner of other, mysterious and sketchy characters.
And of course there’s the crew of the colony ship. Shepherding the ship to it’s destination and making sure as many of it’s passengers make it there. For most of them it’s just work. After the three year journey, a ship will meet them at the newly formed colony and take them back to where they came from. Good pay in their pocket, they don’t have to look for work for a good long while if they don’t want to. But living amongst the passengers for three years can encourage some entanglements. It can be hard for some to leave.
If you’ve never watched the show Silo, you should, it’s great. If you have watched Silo, then you’ll understand me completely when I say the inside of a Colony Ship isn’t too different from the silo from the show. Just horizontal and flying through space. There’ll be agricultural levels with farms and fields. There’s residential areas and schools for children. There’s communal areas and cafeterias where people eat. There isn’t a commercial area, but there bars and food stalls if people want something different. There’s civil services as well, clinics and jails. And of course there is a divide between the classes in the ship with the wealthier passengers along with the more skilled passengers living better.
During the journey much of the passengers have nothing to do which will often lead to trouble. Idle hands are the devil’s playthings and so on. The maintenance and care of the ship is performed by the ship crew. But the crew also performs a number of other duties maintaining the law and order of the ship. This can cause the crew and passengers to butt heads from time to time and on occasion has led to rebellions against the ship crew by unruly and bored passengers.
The player will work performing different entry level roles on the ship until they get more experienced and accustomed to the ship. Eventually as tensions rise on the ship, you will get the option to step into a larger role, with much greater responsibility. Hopefully you’ll be able to get the ship to it’s new home in one piece without too many losses. Of course you might just find a pirate king waiting there for you.
Please ask any questions you have. I’ll try to be as detailed as I can without spoiling.
Ship Builder Path Info
An internship at premier ship building company will come with perks but far more challenges. Pierce and Brown may be one of if not the top luxury ship building companies in the galaxy, but it’s still a family business, which always creates difficulties. Can they ever truly trust someone that’s not family? Billions and trillions of credits move through the books every day. It’s a cold blooded corporate environment, an especially risky environment for an unattached unpaid intern. Sabotage, corporate espionage, guarding top secret information, you’ll have to work your way up to that. You’ll have to prove you can be trusted and you know how to keep your mouth shut.
Pierce and Brown is one of the oldest ship building companies on Earth, located in Detroit, it’s top secret prototype workshop is actually located underneath Lake Michigan. But only people with top clearance get to see down there. You’ll be running errands and babysitting the the CEO’s drunk playboy son. But do a good job and you’ll move up in the world. You may even start getting paid.
But take caution moving up means more problems and more danger. Brushing shoulders with the super rich isn’t for everyone. People that never have to worry about money sometimes forget that other people do and you most certainly do. Be careful you’re not spending more money then you’re taking in. The rich bristle at handouts and hate charity, they won’t bail you out. Keep a close eye on your money, you do have plans to start a new life as a star pilot after this don’t you? So keep you head down, watch your back and don’t order too much caviar, you can’t afford it!
i only try navy path… and dang that pretty long for the intro.
does perk and traits affect mc position in the fleet though?
If you perform well in the final mission you’ll be promoted which means you’ll have more money when you start the star pilot section.
Oh, I was imagining more the colony ships of the first installment of the Outer Worlds, where the actual colonists would be in cryogenically suspended animation and it was just the crew being awake on the ship. But a colony ship with the colonists awake will be cool too. Just a lore question are the massive ships with the awake colonists a recent thing in universe and was there ever an era where the colonists were frozen and the crew were the only ones awake? And maybe even before that an era where both most of the crew and passengers were suspended for most of the journey? Think the Passengers movie.
Actually handsome playboy, or just a billionaire? The first would at least give the job an eye candy perk for my gay mc’s. But this is my opportunity to hopefully have an origin for an mc who is, in many ways, the opposite of my navy boy, as a ruthless, scheming corpo. And where my navy boy was built around early acquisition of the leadership perk I will build my corpo around the charismatic perk. He will be a far more antihero type of roguish character than my mostly honest, honourable and straightforward navy boy!
That’s true but on the corpo path I would assume money is king and looks are a very nice bonus! ![]()
No, cryo stasis isn’t a thing in this universe. If you’re taking a trip you’re really taking it. The journey on our colony ship goes from the Bright Sector, the galaxy’s center out to the outer rim of the Far Reaches and it will take about three years. For earlier generations the same trip would have taken decades, but ship engines have come a long way. For some of the earliest colony ships traveling from Earth to nearby stars, the trip in the current time of the story would only take a week, but back then generations came and went on the colony ships before they landed on their new planet.
Well there is more to life than money and looks, but he does happen to have both and he will be a romance option for the Ship Builder path.
I’m glad you’re excited about roleplaying different characters for each path!
Update about the next update
The Deckie finale is well underway. It should be a lot of fun and different from the other Navy finales. I’ve really enjoyed writing the Navy path but I can’t wait to sink my teeth into something new. I think I should have the Deckie finale completed by the second week in November, but we’ll see. I’ll update you again when I have a more concrete time table.
The next path poll is still open!
If you haven’t voted yet, please do! The poll will stay open until the deckie finale is up. We’ve got a front runner, but there’s still time for things to change. And if you want your ideal path to win, let’s hear why. I’d love to have some more engagement in this forum in general, but specifically about this poll. What do you hope to see in each path?
i found a small glitch in the merchant path, when going to the first dinner thing and choosing what group to mingle with if you choose carlyle and Cpt Seta it doesnt properly show your last name
Thanks! I’ll fix that.
