Setting a Variable with another Variable

Obligatory “Sorry if this has been asked before” here.

Given that I’ve had no luck trying any of the more straightforward methods for doing such a thing, like
*set var1 ${var2}
or
*set var1 var2
I’m going to guess that the answer is that such a thing is impossible. But then again, maybe I’m missing something here. Is such a thing possible?

Doesn’t *set var1 var2 work? It worked when I tried it. What precisely are you typing?

*set var1 var2
*setref "var1" var2

Both should work.
