I politely refused her dance offer, but the fact that the Prussian lady took my rejection so personally was so ridiculous (on character too,) and absurd that I was left speechless.

Finally finished chapter 2 and it was so fun! Alexandra and Linden are definitely my favourite ROs. The scene of dancing with Alexandra in the rain was soooo cute. I really wanted to see more of Kessler too.
Redgrave is so weird, him talking about G at the end was giving Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I really didn’t know how to take it. It seemed to me like he has some weird interest in G and Eleanor is marrying Redgrave to (maybe??) protect them?
Some criticism/bugs: There were a lot of fake choices, like reactions that didn’t change scenes or dialogue options that didn’t get unique responses. I understand it might be because the branching for the duel was huge, incredibly impressive and I can only imagine how long it took to write all of that. But it did make a lot of this chapter feel like I was just reading a book, not really an interactive fiction. Also I noticed a majority of the romance-marked choices didn’t lead to an increase in romance points.

Hey, thank you! I still haven’t gotten around to editing yet, so sorry. August proved to be a bit of a ride (not a bad one though.) I should finally have time to get back to Season of Shadows next week, can’t wait, I’m stoked to write!
Yeah, I’ve realized that I really like writing huge branches but I’m kind of less excited about small choices. Apparently I’m a bigger picture person or something lol, you do learn some things about yourself when writing IF. I am mindful of this and I do try to work on the smaller things a little every time I edit (reluctantly haha), but it will take a lot of time to polish it all. (Imagine me as a hurricane spewing out words fast when I write and then moving on to cause destruction elsewhere without lingering on the fiddly bits. This is very much my process I’m afraid.)
And yeah, I haven’t added all the romance points, but you’d only know that if you went code diving, it won’t affect the game as it is right now. Not to worry, I’ll sort it out if it becomes relevant.

The tropes, the banter, the characters are everything I hoped they’d be and awesome. Deeply enjoyed playing this. So much am going to do another playthrough shortly and probably stay up way too late. Anyway, this is awesome!

I’ve only done one play through so far, but really enjoying all these crazy characters! (I love reading the daily rags too, you drop so many hilarious gems in there!) Looking forward to more of Von Kessler, mainly because I want to raise a family of ravens with him…

Just played this for the first time and I’m intrigued. I picked the route where I have to save my family’s status and I played as a female MC who is trying to do her duty and follow the rules.
Linden is the most interesting romance option to me so far, I get the sense he’s more than what he seems. There’s so many interesting dangling plot threads already; I’m invested!
