Wow. I loved this. I just finished the prologue and instantly just had one of those “just finished a good book and suddenly don’t know what to do with your life” moments. Beautiful work! I am eagerly looking forward to more.
That still takes so much strength! That’s a massive step and I’m proud of you for allowing yourself to be your happiest and truest self. Sending you all my support and so much unwavering love <3
This is amazing! I’m utterly obsessed. I also sent you a mildly unhinged ask on Tumblr to say how much I loved the George Harrison affair but there’s a character limit on tumblr asks so I couldn’t go as in-depth as I would have liked. So if you want to put a name to the sunglasses face on Tumblr, I’m TheLonesomeToad on here.
Anyways. I love this IF so much. I LOVE the 1960s and 1970s, I used to wear mod clothes in high school, etc. I have written so many stories since I was a teen Beatlemaniac about being a member of a fictional 1960s band and having a dramatic breakup a la John Lennon and Paul McCartney (except we’re both girls). Though that’s not necessarily the case in Scapegoated, it scratches the same itch in my brain. I am utterly obsessed. I’m so excited to explore more of the 1960s and 1970s context, from race relations to gender and misogyny, and the serial killer plotline!. I completely support and understand you decision to make a genderlocked female and racelocked MC, it’s your story, and you tell it how you want to tell it. In particular regarding gender, a man simply wouldn’t get blamed for “breaking up the band” in the way that for example Yoko Ono was (though obviously with Yoko it’s also because she’s Japanese).
As for the ROs: they’re all perfect. I’m gonna have to make a different MC for all of them and distinguish them by changes in hair color lol. I really love Penn, he’s so cute in a Martin Scorsese/David Lynch way. I will be your muse sir thank you very much! I liked Fleur a lot too (even though ik she’s not a RO), I’m a sucker for The Factory world even though I don’t particularly like Andy Warhol lol, and I really appreciated the Velvet Undeground mention.
Sorry, this is really rambly, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this. I am really excited for the upcoming chapters and for the plot to start to unfold, can’t wait to read more. Sad to leave New York but excited to go to LA!
PS: I looked your pinterest for the story and it’s also amazing
you and i are psychically linked about this all, and in loving the george harrison affair lmfao. i was into the 60s stuff and was a beatles girl in middle school and lowkey this reignited some stuff for me… (read as: 75% of my pinterest feed currently is pictures of them and vintage sewing patterns, some of which ive bought to finally live the dream of having those clothes!!) and just like i can sense that this story is gonna be sooo good when we get really in deep ugh!!!
our joint slay, I literally gasped when i saw the george harrison line i was like there’s no wayyyy there’s just no way. and then i clicked it and there was indeed way. I was shocked.
for me my beatles “phase” (not really a phase but i’m substantially more chill now) was in high school, i was wearing mini skirts and boots everyday to school and i was constantly getting dress coded lol. i don’t dress like that anymore but i kind of miss it and it was definitely a fun time.
yes i am also so excited! I literally havent been able to stop thinking about this IF all day, especially because i love the 1970s as well
Thank you!!! I think I have seen you on Tumblr actually! Thank you so much! Beatlemaniac sees Beatlemaniac, what can I say? I’m really glad you’re so understanding and eager and interested, it’s so heartwarming. I’m so grateful <3 Thank you.
made an account just to say how much i enjoyed that! so much so, i replayed it a couple different ways (as a lesbian and then going specifically for vince lol). got me hooked instantly and i love historical settings-- so fun, can’t wait for more!
Ah!!! Thank you :’) I can’t wait to get Chapter 1 wrapped and done. It’s taking a while because of my 9-5 but it will be done as soon as I can get it to be done (which I want to be no later than February). Thank you again!!
Will it matter in the story if you get with Vince only after the band ends? I choose to not select any romantic option with him yet for that reason, but I want to know if the story will recognize that we never had anything going until after the band broke up.
Okay, so there was a weird glitch happening with CoGdemos itself that was preventing that variable from uploading for some reason, but it should work now! Crossing my fingers and toes. Let me know <3
Got a rogue set of quotation-marks on the first option here. Otherwise the whole game worked perfectly for me on two different play-throughs. Good job!
I really like 70s vibe! I also enjoyed being able to select an ROs gender through reading a headline about them. It felt both unobtrusive and like it added something to the story to see them in a newspaper before ever meeting in-person. Same thing with the radio-broadcasts and news articles about the serial killer; it felt like a very natural introduction to those plot-points.
However, one point that confused me was how un-responsive the Theatricality stat was. A lot of choices (like playing along with the host/audience during the interview, faking smiles or rolling the eyes – even signing an autograph for the waitress) gave me the impression they would effect how dramatic/theatrical the game thought I was being. But very few of my choices over either run seemed to effect the Theatricality meter–even when the options themselves indicated a charismatic/social character who was playing up their reactions for effect.
Overall, I enjoyed the game and would like to see more of it. The inclusion of famous figures from the period was a neat detail; and being able to choose the MC’s opinion on then-contemporary current events is a fun set of choices to be offered!
Heya! The question marks were intentional–it’s an option for the character to be judgmental/mocking of the action of Penn offering to shake the MC’s hand.
I’m glad you liked that! I’m trying to embed as much as I can without interruption of asking direct questions about preferences here and there; it’s admittedly a challenge.
And the Theatricality stat isn’t for literal theatrics in terms of flamboyance and such. It’s more for your interactivity with the Hollywood scene–film and cinema and such–to show the development of your MC’s fit as an actress. There are opportunities to increase the Theatricality stat in the Prologue, but very few because the Prologue is much more centred to the music industry and scene. You’ll find this will be the case with the vast majority of Chapter 1 too.
More of the options in terms of outgoingness tend to be more closely matched with the confident stat.
