Professor of Magical Studies (was: Advanced Studies in Pattern Magic) - In Copyediting!

Such a big and complex game. I was curious about it and finished in complete awe. The number of tasks to keep up with, the office drama, the morals and fight to keep your integrity while still achieving great things (at least in my MC’s case), the different interactions with each character, the realistic feel of all of it in the middle of a magical setting. There is so much comprised in this game that you are never bored and the pacing feels organic.

I’m truly glad I tried it. I devoured in two days. Can’t wait for more.

Darcy’s terrible, I love him. Torn between getting back together with him and ruining his life, preferably both.

Ruin Darcy’s life by getting them to love you so much, they can’t bear to live without you.

I will confess that you don’t have to choose between getting back together with Darcy and messing with their academic career.

I love the story thus far, and am intrigued with the engaging “relationship” with Darcy, however i am wondering readers should be given more options in their reaction to Darcy’s betrayal ( especially if Darcy is the girlfriend/boyfriend of MC) earlier on in MC’s flashback after Darcy lock MC in the room.

I think on that particular scene where MC was confronting Darcy, the readers lack the choices of forgiveness , all the choices i had was about "angry / disappointed " reaction towards Darcy. I am hoping for a “sad/sorrow” reaction when learning of the betrayal.

My personal reaction to Darcy would be something like " I am sad for your action after all that we gone through , but i can’t make myself to hate you, for that i will forgive you " and then choose to leave calmly .

I think a forgiveness choice for the readers who plan to romance Darcy earlier will make the story more interesting.

Edit : This is my stats at the end of my playthrough, hope it will be helpful

Education

You came to Winfield Phillips from a family who researched magic. While at school, you were a member of Phillippians United.

For your sophomore elective, you chose to study ruction magic. Also in your sophomore year, you chose to rush Xi Theta Phi after an invitation from Yasmine Nichols.

For your senior project, you learned intrinsic magic to let you dampen magical energy. You learned the intrinsic magic remarkably well.

While you didn’t get the fellowship with Dr. Whipple that you’d hoped for, you did get a job working with Dr. Smith dealing with feral patterns.

Overall, a very satisfied and addictive playing experience , the pace is catching up real quick after the slow burn of first chapter, lots of activities were involved and lots of character development in the following chapters, and it was really interesting for me to juggle in thought which are the priorities and which decision will make my adventures more interesting.

The “being” living in MC’ head :
this is a nice surprise for the twist of event and i fully embrace the thought of a “different soul” living in my head , since i sort of like to "talk to myself within my head " in my actual life, hence i can totally imagine how it feels like and am very happy for the alien being to take control of my body to protect both of us

The romance with Darcy:
The romantic route i experience with Darcy after we meet each other again was a surprising cosy treat and i like the reconciliation route very much, and that’s the reason i think the earlier option of forgiving Darcy make sense.

Thanks for all of this! And that’s an interesting point about Darcy. I’ll take a look at that when I do my full editing pass.

I think I’m still somewhere in Chapter 1, since I’m just getting repeated flashback after flashback, so I can’t comment on later chapters. But I can definitely say I do not like the pacing of Chapter 1 at all. It is way, way, way too slow. Dunno if later chapters have the same pacing or not. I will say I think a huge part of the reason it feels so slow is that I start the game expecting to be something I’m not playing as, and I’m eager to get back to the present day. Then every time I do get back to present day, I make one choice before I’m shunted back into the past. If I’m coming into it expecting to play as a student, then the pacing is actually incredibly fast.

That’s only for chapter 1 and it has plot/character relevance.

I did assume it was character relevant, since flashbacks like this usually are (even though there aren’t usually so many). But, plot relevance? Maybe I’m not far enough in to see how that fits in. Is it just your relationship with Darcy? If there are significant plot-relevant elements I may have to restart, since I haven’t been trying to commit any of the plot to memory.

There are elements in the flashback chapters that show up in later chapters, but I’ve tried to add enough reminders at those points that you shouldn’t be lost even if you skimmed chapter 1.

Wait, when did I become Darcy’s boyfriend? I never selected any such option, but it was stated in the text that I am somehow?

Apparently he’s also my best friend, according to post 1… I reeeeally missed something major in Chapter 1, apparently. I never liked Darcy. At all. I figured the only reason there isn’t an option to murder him is that it’s illegal. Also, if I know he’s been a teacher there for three years, why did I even apply?

Can you post or send me the text in question?

This is not the first mention of it, but it’s the first I could get to with my save slots.

The text following the relationship options in Ch 1 was sufficiently vague that I thought maybe Darcy thinks I am in a relationship with him for some reason, but there was no way to correct him and I definitely never thought I was. It’s not like there is even an option to say “no, I’m not interested in a relationship with you.”

Which options tag you as being in a relationship? Maybe I selected one by accident or without realizing what it would do.

From what I remember, he has been a teacher somewhere else for 3 years and then he starts working there shortly after you do.

Did you help him clean himself up? I remember the choices to start the romance are in that scene.

I’m quite sure (though I will replay anyway since I lost my save) that he stated he was working somewhere more… Fancy? Prestigious? And then came back to his alma mater cuz they practically begged him to work there (cuz he already had experience teaching). MC starts working because there is a position available but it seems they contacted both at similar times.

Okay, then I have no idea how that relationship happened.

Just in case, is when they are snooping around in an office they shouldn’t, they totally summon something they shouldn’t, the room is left a mess, and you have the choice to help Darcy clean up or escort your other friend to his room.

Wait, what? From what I gathered, Darcy started working there immediately after graduating, and the MC hasn’t even started working yet because they just got the job. Am I just completely misunderstanding the entire plot?

I don’t recall that scene happening at all, but I don’t know why I would help him with anything.

Oh, clean the room. Yes, that happened. That’s very, very, very different from cleaning him. And I did that to help myself, not to help Darcy. If I could avoid even being somewhere I shouldn’t be to begin with I absolutely would, but for some reason I’m railroaded into it.

You can choose to follow him to the bathroom.

Definitely didn’t. Did not leave the room.

But based on the options you’re describing, I leave the room in some fashion regardless of which choice I make, in which case I completely misunderstood the plot. Because I definitely thought I was staying exactly where I was.

@geldar hey hey~ Got some screenshots trying to avoid Darcy (although it instead defaulted to your other friend having feelings for MC).

There is the scene I was talking about, where you can start to romance any of your friends.

I avoided him any chance possible and it ended in friendship, so you should’ve selected a couple of choices that tipped the scale in his favor.

This is Darcy’s introduction when you start working with him.

Second mention of Darcy working in a different place before working with MC.

From what I gathered, for romance you have to make choices that either defend the RO or make you spend time with them. So to avoid r-cing Darcy you gotta spend time with Manish or on your own.

Indeed! You already cleaned up and Darcy is complaining about needing to wash himself a little in the bathroom, to get rid of the smell from the trash bag.

Huh. Well, I’m fairly certain I did clean up, so I think what happened is that I clicked to help Darcy clean up, thinking I was cleaning the room we were currently in, not following Darcy to another room.
